VMRCVM Applicants c/o 2017

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for the advice Kmeid. Though, I'll look into the format when and if I get an interview, I also believe one should enjoy it!

MMI Interviews seem pretty difficult... Any insight from accepted students?

Well I wasn't accepted, but I was waitlisted last year and am reapplying this year... I personally prefer the MMI style to a traditional interview. Your not sitting in the same room as the same interviewer for a long time, and if you mess up on a question you can just go into the next one with confidence and the next interviewer won't know you messed up.

Ditto to all of this. It wasn't nearly as nerve racking as I thought it would be. The big issue is that because they interview all of their kids in two days, they interview way more kids than other schools. When I got wait-listed I called to see what I could improve upon and they had really nothing to say. I was told I did amazing in two interviews, bad in one, and the rest were average. Apparently what really kills people isn't that you do bad, it's just that there's so many kids it's likely someone is going to do better than you

When do they inform you about interviews?

You should have received an e-mail telling you interview invites are sent out the third week in January and the interviews are scheduled for March 1st and 2nd. I you ever have any questions don't hesitate to e-mail Joyce Massie. i'm on my second time applying and we're best friends right not haha.

Also, did anyone ever get the automated e-mail we were suppose to get so we could track our documents?

No, I didn't get one yet. The last email they sent said a week (on 10/4); so, I'm assuming it will be coming soon.

Haven't gotten it yet either. I'm starting to irrationally freak out because its been over a week, dang it haha. Obviously applying to vet school turned me into a nervous wreck.

Well it looks like none of us got it so no worries!

I would like to formally announce the most important news you are about to read all day. Please see below.

I have not received the email yet either.

Haha, me too! I've already looked up some of the school threads from last year to read when they have received things. Applying has made me a little bit obsessive!

So glad I'm not the only one!

Not sure why, but this totally made me LOL. 👍

(no email here either)

So regarding the MMI - my whole class is pretty split on the issue. There are some people who absolutely love the MMI format, who clearly do incredibly well in that sort of situation.

I hated them.

I'm a decent interviewer, and I really like the traditional style because I get a very good feel for my 'audience,' as it were.

Because the scenarios are scripted and because the interviewers are trained to stick to a certain script depending on how you respond to the scenario, there is no way to tell if the stony-faced bleakness you're getting is because you're bombing your scenario, or because your interviewer has been instructed to act that way.

There are some people who do really well in that environment, where there's a new person with a new scenario every few minutes, and where the focus isn't on you and your accomplishments but rather the problem at hand.

The best advice I can give is take a deep breath between scenarios and be honest. I was told to stick to my guns but I'll tell you honestly I didn't; there was a scenario where an alternate "solution" popped up and I admitted it was better than the one I had contrived for x, y, and z reasons. There are no right answers. Just explain your reasoning, be cordial, again be honest and stay relaxed.

This sounds trite but the worst that happens is you don't get in; you can always always always try again! =)

Best advice so far IMO. Thanks for the inside scoop Hopeful.

And perhaps admitting it was a better solution shows you can adapt and are open to new possibilities. I think being honest and being yourself is great advice.

Got an email this morning about setting up the status page! :scared:

Got mine, too. Guess that's another thing that needs to happen pretty soon...

Is everyone else seeing their transcripts marked as received? It looks like both of mine didn't get there (which is really strange, since I think one of them was electronic). I just wanted to make sure this isn't something that's happening across the board before I go mess with registrars...again...

Is this under the requirements table? I don't even see my transcript information anywhere...For me it's marked received for: VCMAS, GRE, eLORS and supplement/fee. 😕 What about my transcripts?

Yeah. My requirements table has: GRE, VMCAS Applicaiton and ELOR's, Supplemental, Supplemental Fee, VM: Transcript 1, and VM: Transcript 2. For the two transcripts it has the school name in the notes section.

Huh, now I'm worried because there is not a single place where the word "Transcript" appears on mine.

EDIT: I emailed Joyce Massie about the status of my transcripts. Let see what she says!

My transcript was received and checked as such. The main confusing thing about my tracking page is that they list the second time I took the GRE in the notes section when I took it three times, and my third score was the best. All scores were submitted at once (unless they are using last year's), so I'm not concerned yet. I may send a quick e-mail, but at least they have some of my scores.

Mine doesn't have transcript on there at all either. I called the school before the application due date to make sure both of mine got there, and Joyce said they did. Still, it worries me that they aren't listed on the page when some people's are.

You know, after thinking about it I'm pretty sure I called too and was told that my transcripts were there. I think Mizzou was the only one of my schools that didn't tell me. So they should definitely be there...in conclusion, their tracking page confuses me. Maybe it's just not updated yet? For...some reason? 😕

😕 Hopefully... I think I'm going to wait to contact the school though until after we hear from WannaBeVet. :xf: it's just their system being glitchy.

So my transcript issue has been quickly and painlessly resolved! Apparently it can be that they have your transcripts but there was a system glitch that doesn't allow it to show up. I emailed Joyce and she had to delete my status for the transcript and submit it again on her end for me to see it as "Received".

Whew! Sigh of relief! 😛

Looks like a glitchy system was at fault for me! Emailing Joyce was the easy fix (and quick for that, she was very speedy in her response).

Thank you muchly! Now to go send that email...😉

I know it gets crazy wanting to know, but if you're still in school make sure you finish this semester strong. When you send them your transcripts from this semester, it's going to be one of the last impressions of you before they decide to send out interview invitations.

It's not a make or break thing by any means, but another opportunity for a good work ethic reflection, kind of thing.

...and then next semester if you find out you got in, you get to slack-off. XD

It looks like interview will now be on January 25 and 26. I'm happy we find out sooner this year!

I received the same email.

Just got this email:

"This email is to make you aware of a change. Interviews at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine will be held on January 25 and 26, 2013. Interview invitations will be sent out via email the end of the first week of January. I just wanted you to be aware of this for your planning purposes."

Really freaked me out... I got my tracking page email a while ago so I wasn't expecting to hear anything from them about interviews for a while.

So if I get an interview, I'll be leaving school the first weekend I'm back from break. It will probably be nice to know earlier, but I liked when the interview was in March after the interviews for my top 2 schools so I didn't have to pay to travel/deal with MMI if I was already accepted (I know, wishful thinking).

Just saw the e-mail. This will make things interesting. I was expecting VMRCVM to be the last school I heard from, but it turns out it will not be.

Well, it still might be the last school we hear from. They moved the interview dates but didn't say anything about the acceptance dates (which I believe were mid-March last year).

Edit: Nevermind - you could be talking about last school to hear from generally. Sorry!

I am really happy that the interviews have been moved. My winter break ends on January 27th, so that means that I will still be at home when I have my interview! I am a Maryland resident and it takes 5 hours to get to VMRCVM. If the interviews were in March, I would have had to fly in to Maryland from Boston to get my car, and then drive to VMRCVM. Now I don't have to buy plane tickets!

My IS has interviews in February, so I have to fly back home for a weekend for that anyway. 🙄

Last year we didn't were heard in March because interviews were earlier in the month. Hopefully if we're interviewed in January we can find out earlier too! :xf:

Anyone else think the wait until January just got really long??

Any In-State Virginia people out there? My application status page has check marks for everything except "Instate Residency Confirmed". Anyone else?

None of the school I've applied to have sent out anything except application receipts. Good luck to all in getting interviews!

Also, anyone know how many applicants overall went through VMCAS this year? Saw on the UPenn forum that their applicant #s went up; hoping they went down in general.

I'm in-state MD, and I also have everything checked off except for "instate residency confirmed."

I know that applicant numbers went way up at Ohio State as well (supposedly from ~600 last year to ~1100 this year). My guess is that numbers are up everywhere and that it's going to be a rough year for acceptance rates (especially OOS)...
