I just got off the waitlist, but I'm also holding a spot at another medical school. They're giving me until June 12 to decide, but I'm wondering if this means that AMCAS now has me listed as being accepted to two schools, since I know this is technically against the rules. Also, I'm still on the waitlist at my dream school, and I'm wondering if it will hurt my chances if it seems like I'm holding two spots after May 15 (even though I technically just found out about it today). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Either accept or decline your most recent offer of acceptance. Do you honestly need until June 12th to decide? If you accept, immediately withdraw your other acceptance and you'll be fine. It shouldn't affect your chances of getting pulled off the wait list at your dream school.

I just got into Pitt Med. I won't take until June 12, but I'm waiting for financial aid info before deciding, so it will be at least a couple of days. However, I really want to go to NYU, and I know they have another round of acceptance on June 1. I just don't know if it would be good for them to see that I'm holding two acceptances.

Don't worry too much about it. They won't know you are holding two acceptances. But if you want my honest opinion, just take NYU and run. Pitt Med is good, but NYU is the full package (money or not).

If your set on a legit comparison just wait it out.Nothing bad will happen in 12 days.

Haha, Orthocatz, I'd love to take NYU and run! I'm just waiting for them to take me =) And I thought all schools have access to AMCAS holdings after May 15? Or was I mistaken? Because if they do have access to AMCAS, then they'll know about Pitt right? Sorry, I know I sound like a crazy pre-med right now, I just don't want this to hurt my chances at NYU because I'm dying to get in!

Are you holding a wait list spot or an acceptance spot to NYU? It sounds like the former but in your original post, you said you were holding a spot at another school besides Pitt.

Oh sorry! I'm on the waitlist for NYU, just got accepted to Pitt, and I'm holding a spot at another school (got in before May 15). So I'm still waiting on NYU, but now I have to make a decision on Pitt. NYU has another round of acceptances going out June 1, so I'm just worried that this new acceptance to Pitt will hurt my chances with NYU because I'll be holding two spots. I hope that was a little more clear! Thanks for all the responses!

second that question-we would like to know what is the school that you already got into, before Pitt?

With regards to NYU, if you love being in NYC, I can totally understand your desire to go there. I interviewed at SUNY and I even enjoyed being in Brooklyn. (Are you an NY native?) That being said, if you want to go to a program that is pretty well known through medical circles, I'd honestly ask you to reconsider on Pitt. I would argue Pitt is equally, if not more highly regarded than NYU with its programs...but again, that's just the esteem of the program. Pittsburgh will open many doors in regards to the program chairs knowing many others across the nation, so you'll be quite prepared for residency applications. But again, if you have other reasons in which you want to go to NYU, by all means, go for it.

Good luck with your decision!

The school I'm currently holding a place to is UVA. The school is wonderful, but Charlottesville isn't really my favorite place (I find it a little too small, I tend to like cities better). Yea, Pitt is an amazing school, but I have to say I'm not quite sold on Pittsburgh as a city. I really like NYU because I really like both the school and the city. I'm not a New York native, but I've visited often, and really love NYC.

Schools can see that you're holding two acceptances. I was accepted at Pitt on May 15th, and shortly thereafter the school that I had previously committed to sent me an email stating that I needed to let them know if I was still coming. I ended up waiting a few days for my fin aid package to come through, but it was all loans (not that I expected anything...). If your parents make decent money, expect the same. Otherwise, check your spam folder because that's where my fin aid email went!

I was waitlisted at NYU as well, but I'm not sure that I would pick it over Pitt. NYU is a fantastic school, but it's also much more expensive when you factor in housing and cost of living. If the finances are equal, though, then it's a tough decision!

Do you need that long to decide between Pitt and UVA? I think the fact that you remained on the WL at Pitt seems to say that you were intending to choose it over UVA all along. It is after May 15th, and I think you have an obligation to let one of the two know ASAP that you'll be withdrawing so they can make an offer of acceptance to someone else.

I was, but the financial aid package has kind of changed the game, hence why its taking time to decide (Pitt hasn't given me financial info yet). I just don't want this decision and the time it'll take to hurt my chances of getting into NYU, because that's where I really want to go.

Well, ironically I just got pulled from NYU's waitlist. Apparently they are making more offers! Now I have a decision as well...
