I personally did not have a car for the 1st and 2nd year, but downtown Richmond is a food desert, so it might be helpful to have one. I just got rides from my friends for everything. I bought a car for 3rd year because you have to go to the Richmond VA frequently for rotations, and for rotations like FM and OB/GYN where they might send you to different locations around Virginia. One of my classmates is planning on ubering everywhere for third and fourth year (lol)
I personally really like it! The faculty are all nice and supportive and my classmates are pretty much all nice. The overall environment is collaborative, and the pass/fail preclinical curriculum relieved a lot of the stress I would have had. I've made a lot of friends and have never felt overwhelmed by the coursework or stress. That isn't to say that it's been easy, but I've been able to balance sleep, school, and social life well
