Hey guys, I am going to apply for this upcoming cycle and I have a strong interest in primary care/family medicine. Also, I'm applying to MD + DO and I was wondering WAMC for this cycle? I don't have a ton of clinical hours and my MCAT is not great for MD.

cGPA 3.80, sGPA 3.82 (strong upward trend, didn't know what I wanted in Freshman year)
MCAT 508

Male, Asian, CA resident

Research:
- 1 Publication, 3rd author
- 630 hours polymer research
- 140 hours meat science lab assistant

Clinical Volunteering:
- 50 hours ER volunteering
- 130 hours front desk volunteering (job is to discharge patients and help nurses too, apparently my med advisor said this counts as clinical?)
- 80 hours patient care volunteering
- 300 hours scribe volunteering for free clinic

Shadowing: 84 hours

Non-clinical Volunteering:

- 70 hours cooking meals and serving dinners at homeless shelter
- 200 hours mission trips to Tijuana, Mexico
- 100 hours chemistry tutor

Leadership:
- 200 hours president of medical missionary club

Employment:
- 3000 hours at Chipotle (before doing premed)
- 450 hours working on a farm for College Corps

Extracurriculars:

I think you need more work with US nonclinical volunteering. At least more balance with your Tijuana mission (at least 130 hours in food kitchen / homeless shelter so you have equal hours in the US and in Mexico). Otherwise you are pinning yourself to Southern California, which is fine if that is your plan.

Tutoring goes under teaching.

Your MD list contains mostly schools that accept very few OOS students.

Get more non-clinical volunteering. Mission trips are often considered voluntourism and you should be helping out in your community/city. Try to add on to your homeless shelter volunteering to get it to 150. Tutoring belongs in the teaching category on AMCAS.

I suggest:

UCD
Albany
NYMC
Drexel
Belmont (when it opens)
Loma Linda
Nova MD
Rosalind Franklin
Penn State

For DO:

TUCOM-Vallejo
COMP-Pomona
TUNCOM
COMP-NW
PCOM
DMU
CUSOM
TUCOM-Harlem
KCU
MUCOM
LECOM
KCOM

You have a good DO list and should receive several interviews. The majority of MD schools on your list are state public schools that admit few non residents with your MCAT of 508 and no connection to the state. For MD schools I suggest these:
Loma Linda (if you fit their mission)
California University
UC Davis
UC Irvine
NOVA MD
Creighton
TCU
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Wake Forest
Drexel
Temple
Penn State
Hackensack
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Belmont (when it opens)
