Kermit and fishfinn, I still have no idea how you guys didn't get interviews, when you guys have better grades than me, but during my tour they specifically said that LoR (so I'm guessing exp as well) did not factor into getting interviews, so I really don't know what's up, and it definitely doesn't seem fair. My theory is that they must have been some glitch in their system that lost you guys somehow. Otherwise, I just don't understand. :<

Their system is clearly more of a mystery than we ever imagined ... I assume the main issue is comparing marks, as I don't know how they'd make a GPA comparable to a percentage - it's hard to do! One way or the other, one system will have an advantage over the other.

But congrats Jestry!

Sorry you guys, who didn't. I know what that feels like. I was honestly looking for the "we regret to inform you" section.
If I can give some advice, dls.... go back to school for a year. I honestly think that's what tipped me over. I took easy intro courses and aced them... and brought up my best full year. I think that really helped me out. You know what the interviews are like. You know what experience you lack... work on those things, and I know you can do it!
Anyone hear from UCVM yet?

I also got into WCVM this year, and just joined SDN. Still waiting to hear from UCVM though! I guess no one has heard?

Well I guess it's my turn to rant...... I have already completed a degree in one of the paramedical fields (2006) from an international university....I worked for a few years and then immigrated to Canada where I worked for a further 3 years before I decided how much a hated what I was doing and decided to follow my dream of being a veterinarian. So I gave up a well paying job after speaking to wcvm regarding weather I had any chance of being a successful applicant. Since then I have been at a Canadian university doing basc sciences courses that I did not have already and have an average of 93% In the past 2 years. I was confident that my grades would at least get me an interview but was really disappointed twice this year....the worst of it is the rejection letter...in it it says that any student that has more than 4 years of undergraduate schooling will unlikely be unable to improve their gpa using the mathematical calculation that the university applies....(my previous degrees grades were not as pleasing)....but at the same time the only thing I can do to ensure an interview next year is to improve my grades ???? It is really disappointing as a mature student who has a variety of life and work experiences that will benefit me as a vet student and with a degree that I thought will be beneficial to have, now completely regrets ever telling them that I had this degree....if I didn't tell them, I would have surely been considered based on my grades from the past 2 years..... Very frustrating and annoyed........oh we'll!! Congrats to all that got in and to those who didn't......I feel your pain....

I'm so so happy for you! I was telling my family how disappointing it was that you didn't make it but now you're in at UCVM!!! Congrats, girl - that's an even bigger achievement, in a way, since you were top 30/240 applicants 🙂

P.S. How great did it feel changing the line under your user name???

Do they tell you that you're on the wait list?

For which school? WCVM will tell you in the letter (usually it is ranks 21-30ish) and I think UCVM tells you in the letter as well (though I don't have personal experience with that one). WCVM will tell you your rank on the wait list and UCVM won't.

I got a ranking like everybody else, so if they don't say anything about wait list, then it means nothing whether you rank 16 or 29, right?

Thank you!!! 😀 I feel like there has been a mistake....UCVM always felt unattainable with the interview process that literally almost killed me last year. I still can't believe it...

Though I am disappointed that I won't be classmates with all of you wonderful people at WCVM.
 
BUT! It's kind of cool, because if we stay in touch we can compare how the curriculums are different. Nerdy, I know... but it WOULD be kind of neat to see what's the difference.
 
So does anyone know if UCVM got through all their phone calls yesterday or if they might be doing some more on Monday?
 
Congratulations everyone!!! We just had our graduation on Thursday for WCVM, and it was a great way to wrap up the best (and hardest 😉) four years of my life. Good luck!!!

I don't know their call schedule for sure, but I do know that everyone will likely receive an update on Monday.

And WCVM decided calling wasn't for them this year or what? lol.

Dr Grahn called on Friday afternoon, asking if I'd checked my email. Of course he knew from the moment I said, 'hell-ooo' in a sing-song-much-too-excitable-to-be-normal-voice that I had :laugh:

Haha I met a couple UCVM students and we totally did this - it is interesting to compare curriculums! They seemed to have gone on so many of these crazy field trips, including a trip to the rendering plant on their very first day of school... and they have some sort of clinic skills day once a week or something like that?

But most importantly, congratulations to everyone in the class of 2017! And for those who didn't make it, I am sure next year will be the year for you, don't give up!
 
I'm not a motivational quotes kind of person, but last year I kept this one because it really struck a chord with me;
The greatest battle is not physical but psychological. The demons telling us to give up when we push ourselves to the limit can never be silenced for good. They must always be answered by the quiet, the steady dignity that simply refuses to give in. Courage. We all suffer. Keep going.
 
I really like that.....writing it down and will be keeping it with me. I imagine there are plenty more hopeless moments to come.

I literally signed up for SDN the day that WCVM and UCVM called, I wish I had known it existed before! Congrats to everyone who got in to either school! I'll be happy to meet a few of you at WCVM this August.

For those of you who didn't get in this year, I hope it doesn't discourage you from reapplying.
 
Hi SDN'ers 🙂 I just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to SDN...I am also eagerly waiting for UCVM results. Nice to know I am not alone. Should find out something today I imagine.
