I'm working on the uniqueness essay at the moment. I'm curious, I know we have 4000 characters, but how much are people finding they are using? Are you guys really pushing the limit or no? I think I'm probably going to have 2500-3000 characters, so I'm not sure if I should make it longer.
Also, I don't have any additional vet hours since October 2nd. Is anyone in the same boat as me? I feel like a total bum. Hahaha.
I'm feeling loserish myself. I just have continuing hours with my job, but nothing else new is brewing. Realistically I'm not going to do anything outside of my job between now and December 5th because of a tight school/work schedule, so I'm just going to talk about new things I learned at work I guess.
Hello everyone. My name is Ed and I am excited that there is such a place for folks interested and pursuing a career in the medical field. I have an unusual (like most folks) situation and I want to pass it by everyone who might have some advice for me.
I am 23 years old, I was an average (mostly unmotivated) student in high school who would excel in the particular subjects I appreciated (Econ, Physics, Debate.) For the most part I was a slacker with an unbalanced high school transcript. I still got into college (CSU Sacramento) and spent a year and a half studying for a Psychology degree. While in school my dad came down with Adenocarcinoma of the esophagus (probably one of the worst cancers to be diagnosed with.) I dropped my second semester classes and effectively joined the workforce in my talent (Computer Programming) while my father processed through a rigorous treatment and then passed away in August of 1999. Even thinking about going back to school was tough. I am just now starting my academic career backup while working demanding 50-hour weeks. I am positioned for a Managerial Economics degree from UC Davis and I have realistically set myself a graduation date of 2005 for that. While the Econ degree is a realistic degree for graduation, I have always been interested in medicine. My father was a D.D.S/PhD., uncle an Orthopedic Surgeon, and an aunt who is a O.B.GYN. It's not just the family lineage of the profession but I ultimately am interested in the courses of med school and subsequent reward of helping people. I have a couple years of volunteering with terminally ill patients with Hospice as well as indigent farm workers who need medical treatment with the Concerned Coalition of Medical Professionals.
My goal is to become a regular ole' Family Practitioner and the school I will be attending for my undergrad degree has one of the best programs, UC Davis. I would love to be able to just apply and get in there but I know that is not realistic.
My question is, does anyone else have similar circumstances? I will be completing all my Med School pre req's after I finish the B.S. in Managerial Economics so its obvious I am not to concerned about time. My goal, if I am able to achieve admission is to be done with med school; on with a practice by the time I am 35. Does this sound reasonable?
Much Thanks!
Ed
Question for you guys... at the bottom of page 2 (Family Section) on the supplemental it says:
"To be completed by students claiming residence for tuition purposes based on employment under Wisconsin statutes 36.27(2)(cm)"
Does this mean we don't have to fill out this page if we are not trying to claim Wisconsin residency? I live in another state and have never lived in Wisconsin. I really don't feel like calling my parents and asking them when they last voted and when they moved into their current house (sometime in the 1980s....)![]()

I just filled out the parts I could (parents' names, address, employment info) and left the Wisconsin resident stuff blank. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry.
Can I safely take this to mean that I am not the only one who procrastinated and is now finishing her supp app the night before it's due? 🙄
Yeah, I guess maybe it comes off as filler material...
I just hate to see an empty box!! 🙂
Does anybody who applied last year happen to remember/have the email? Did it also say March?
Edit: Just checked the c/o 2016 Acceptances thread and it looks like the earliest acceptance was February 13th. Yikes.
WOW I feel like the biggest idiot ever. I just made my payment last night thinking that everything was submitted and I did not notice a "submit application" button until now. GREAT. Now everything was pointless. I emailed them about it but I doubt it will change anything. I am so upset with myself.... 🙁
How bad do you think it is that I put "patients" instead of "patience" in my essay. Oh no!!

Does anyone know if you can establish residency in WI after a year in school?
It doesn't really matter at this point since I haven't heard back (and probably won't until mid-February if they stick to the same timeline as last year) but I'm trying to determine how much of a tuition difference there would be between my top choice schools.
