Hey,

All of you folks who are writing NBDE Part 1 in November/December 2009, come and share your knowledge. I have just started my preparation in May.

I did my Graduation in 2007 from India. So the subjects I m studying now were studied by me 5-6 years back.

So lets make a study plan and study together.

Again, if you have time, focus on dental decks. Use kaplan notes as reference. You don't need to remember the structure of every virus. But you need to pay attention to EXCEPTIONS. For example:

1. Which kind of virus does not involve in cell transformation?
2. What's the primary symptoms of HSV-1?
3. What is the most common cause of viral pneumonia for infants?
4. What is the most common cause of infant viral enteritis?
5. What viruses are considered teratogens?
etc

The best way is to make study notes. It can save you a lot of time.

in Microbiology........the tables....do we need to know in and out of it

i mean............say in virology.....which viruses are enveloped and how many stranded, plus the nucleocapsid symmetry.......will that much suffice, i really dunno how to get the (+) / (-) sense and shapes.......is that imp , is all i need to know. Also, Kaplan discusses imp parasites/ protozoa and virus from exam perspective.......is that much enough. Pathology -where did you do that from ?

its getting tiresome.Reading the same stuff,forgetting it,reading it all over again...the exam dates are getting closer.Sometimes the motivation level goes down.God!help me.Hows everyone else doing?

I know it is getting tiresome.....as we are getting close to the test......but we have to keep this thing in mind that we worked very hard to reach here......so at these last moments, we cannot just let our motivation level go down........Just remember that God is seeing all the hard work we are doing.....He will pay us back.......only if we are honest with our hard work........so just take it like :

Vow!!! Just 15 days left and I will work more hard...even if I forget ...doesnt matter....I will read again....No one can remember each and every word......everyone forgets.......But I will give my best shot in these last days....and study even more hard.....I wont waste single second in thinking or getting tired or getting depressed..........

I saw you helping and motivating others. I really appreciate it.
I am also giving my exam in December. Now am almost done with my first revision. Mainly studying first aid, decks nd previous Q papers.

Since 4 days i was doing Mico & path Q papers (for the first time). But i am getting only between 75-80 in each. I was not able to improve my score how muchever i tried. I am so scared now nd if i get in 70's now how will it be possible to score above 80 in each subject
Since this is the first time I am also planning to do Q papers again. will that improve?

Please give me some suggestions to improve the score. From tomarrow onwards i am studying Dental Anatomy

Hi Rukmini,

I think you need an additional source than decks and first aid....because first aid seem to be an organized form of decks only.......I think since you dont have much time now....try to go through Kaplan..... Doing Q papers once again wont help...because you will now remember those questions....and so it wont test your actual knowledge now.....try to read from an additional source and then do new question papers and then see if it helps.....

I think decks should be used as an additional source and not as the sole source.....

Finally done with my test.....so relaxed...I cant believe it is over.....Its weird this morning....I didnt know what to do today.....But its all good...

So, about the test, guys, I liked the test.....the test was easy...but it was confusing...

I would like to give an advice to you guys.......The test is simple...but it tests your basic knowledge....not what you can cram......so make your basics clear.....if you prepare a topic, prepare it thoroughly...

I am really happy with the way the ADA make tests......they really test your true knowledge of the subject......the time is enough....you dont have to worry about the time.....so you are relaxed time-wise when you write the test....I could go through all the questions 2 times.....and second time i found some mistakes and corrected them.......

There are times when you get confused in the test......I did too....there are two options in which you get confused....the best thing is to not to look at the answers first....just read the questions, try to answer it without looking at the options first.....I got confused and selected the wrong answer...even though I knew the right answer.......it happened to me for some 5-6 questions......and then i stopped looking at the answers and then i was fine.....

So guys prepare well....do not stress out...the test tests your basic knowledge......and thats it......once again, make your basics very clear.......

I would suggest you to just revise, revise and revise......be sure to do all the ASDA papers .....all of them from oldest to newest......I would say once again...do all the ASDA papers.....and revise decks thoroughly......

All the best for your exam.....I would suggest you to do ASDA papers thoroughly now....and do not stress out....Panicking wont help you at all.....you wont be able to concentrate....and it wont help you to study more.....so dont let it overcome you......all you can do is to revise now.......

I did not read first-aid at all....but i think it is an organized form of decks...so it is worth reading.. yes ASDA papers helped me a lot in solving a lot of questions in the exAm.

Yes it is arelief but not until i get my results.....because everyday I remember some questions which I did wrong even on knowing them right.......so it really haunts me....but waiting for the result now....

I felt biochem was basic too.....I studied everything from my textbooks, decks and ASDA papers......So i think it was enough.....Go through decks carefully in biochem, i think......

To be honest I did not study first-aid at all. I studied entirely from my text books, decks and ASDA papers. And I also read entire Anatomy and DA from Kaplan in addition to my books. I think Kaplan is a good book as far as i have read it. So if your basics are all clear it is a good book. The main thing is to have your basics entirely clear......So it all depends on how much time you have. But I think decks and ASDA are excellent as an additional source...not as the sole source.

Just as i told everything was basic, nothing complicated So biochem/physio were basic stuff as well. As long as your basics are clear, you are fine. Yes, i did all the ASDA papers from the oldest to the newest, even the last one released last month. And ASDA Papers helped me a lot in solving many questions.

I used my text books from India. Wheelers and Kaplan for DA, B D Chaurasia and Kaplann for anatomy, Harsh Mohan for Pathology, Sembulingam for Physiology, Rana Shinde for Biochemistry, Ananthnarayan for Microbiology, Orbans for Histology and Embryology.

Just a reminder that unauthorized distribution/selling of copyrighted materials is piracy and unlawful.

If you're concerned about the cost of the asda papers, don't buy all of them at once. Just buy one and see if it is helpful. Besides, the cost of all the papers is about the same as the cost to take the exam.

Good Luck with your exam. I would suggest you to go through all the ASDA papers thoroughly in the last 2-3 days. And just keep on revising everything.

You will need to call ADA and inquire if you apply before January 1 will they allow you to take the exam. No one here will be able to give you accurate answer. I hope this helps.

HI Evansblue,

I do not think we need these kind of simulation tests. The best tests are the ASDA papers. Go through them very thoroughly. I wrote my test on 26th Nov. And I did not feel any need for them. In fact I have heard that these are just waste of time and money..
