Interviewing Saturday! Does anyone know around what time they were done on a Saturday interview? I know it says 4.5 hours but trying to see if anyone got done before that or not so I can plan the drive home.

I'll be there tomorrow as well. What group are you in?

Just interviewed today! MMI was tough but traditional was great. The school is really nice and I would be honored to be apart of their 4th class

Interviewed here today as well! I loved the MMI interviews but didn't care much for the one-on-one interview. I was very impressed with all other aspects of the day and feel that Marian is an excellent school!

I echo that as well (including the one-on-one). If I am fortunate enough to be accepted here, I will most definitely go here. Good luck everyone!

I believe we met today. I was the guy with "the same suit". Safe travels home!

If anyone is nervous for their interview, don't be. The MMI was pretty easy and the personal interview was really only discussing why you would go here.

For my review of the school, I wouldn't say it was my top choice because it is still a developing school. Many of the professors commented on errors they had made preparing their students for boards/rotations and I'm glad that they were upfront about this. I suspect that although their COMLEX pass rate is high, that their average score wasn't very high. Most of the students I interacted with said most people didn't take the USMLE exams due to time issues. Roations sounded okay but it sort of sucks the students don't get to rotate in the rockstar hospitals in the area like Eskenazi because IU won't allow them but that's only one minor issue. I'm sure their community hospitals are just fine.

Again if you are preparing for your interview here don't stress too much! The whole day was really boring and underwhelming in my opinion!

I interviewed. It was not very stressful. I really like the school, but I suspect their average scores are not very high. On the bright side, if you are a very good student you can be at the top of the class rank and take benefit of the big-fish-little-pond effect. Good luck everybody!

Rejected via letter, doesn't matter because I got into my top choice Western U!

Interviewed here today and loved it.
Our student Q&Aers and tour guides really made you feel welcome. This was also my first experience with MMI, and I was surprised with how much I liked it - to tell you the truth, I actually wish there were more stations.

I couldn't agree more. They said they used to have seven. I wish they had dropped down to four instead of two. Oh well. Overall great experience. It's still early, but this is my top choice so far.

Lol, 7 stations was too hectic. My guess for the drop in stations is because having 7 minutes to explain your reasoning for these cases wasn't enough time to fully elaborate our critical thinking skills. Part of the reason why you guys feel so relaxed during the interview was because you have time to think and answer these scenarios in full, I didn't lol. However, I did enjoy it. I felt that the MMI can portray the true individual and apply it to the application.

I don't know what the average score is for the first boards, but from my research of different schools. The board scores usually is heavily dependent on the individual ability to test well. Top schools get top students and get high averages. The material is all the same. Everyone uses the first aid books as their guide and I haven't heard of a single respectable school that doesn't cover the all of the material. If they didn't, they wouldn't be accredited. Speaking of accreditation, MUCOM isn't accredited yet, but with the first boards pass rate out, it's a pretty good sign.

MUCOM has their first class out on rotation so it's also an audition rotation for MUCOM to impress the local hospitals and physicians. They understand that and have constantly invited physicians to come and do guest lectures. We've been introduced to radiology in the first week of school and continually been exposed to different specialist as we go through our introductory classes. I hope the first year's do well for my sake lol.

Marian is closely associated with Community Health Network, who partnered with Eskenazi, and St. Vincent. While IU has close ties with St. Francis, IU Hospitals, and Methodist.

IU rotates students in eskenazi, not Marian.

I asked the person interviewing me about this and he said IU had saturated most of the teaching hospitals so we'd be stuck with mostly community hospitals like community/St. Vincent.

I just wish they had a teaching hospital attached with the school so that it'd be easier conducting research etc. The medical students at the interview didn't even know what research opportunities would be available besides an Ellie Lilly internship (paid work). Again I don't want to step on any toes, the school may be more attractive for other reasons!

There are definitely benefits to an associated teaching hospital, but there are drawbacks as well. It may come down to which model best fits your goals and objectives in school and afterwards. Have you considered applying to an MD school? I would suggest considering that route if you feel that a dedicated teaching hospital would suit you best as those schools more typically utilize that model in their clinical curriculum. In any event, best of luck.

Not a lot of DO schools have teaching hospitals because they're not state funded. It takes a lot of money and logistics to set one up. The main mission of MUCOM is to alleviate the physician shortage in medically underserve regions of Indiana and other regions like it in the US. There's a lot of things that needs to be done first for MUCOM to be well establish and that means getting students out into rotations, graduating the first class, and getting them into residency. As far as I know, you can do research with some faculties here over the summer if you talk to them. We do not have a research lab but that might be added later on. We definitely have the space.

I agree with Jobikenobi. If you're a student looking for a dedicated teaching hospital or a medical school that emphasize research, your best bet might be to apply to MD schools to fit your needs. I'm sure there's some DO schools heading down that route but not many. I don't think KCOM has their own teaching hospital but I may be wrong. When I was looking them up, I saw that clinical rotations are all over the US.

When it comes to new medical schools, MU-COM is as attractive as it gets. I have interviewed at schools that are almost all preceptor based rotations, MU-COM and its clinical rotations with in house residencies are like a dream. Although the school itself doesn't seem to have much research going on, at least you are close enough to hospitals to contact them to see if you can jump on a project. Even guys who go to established schools, such as NSU, have gone this route. I think if you are proactive, you should be fine getting research and decent rotations. Even MD schools, such as my state school, use community hospitals. The schools in the DO world don't get that much better, and it takes a lot of time to establish themselves.

1. For the shadowing experience question on the secondary, should we write something different than the AACOMAS description? Seems redundant to describe the experience again, but I can see how interviewers may not have your AACOMAS app when interviewing.
Copy and paste or write a new description?

2. Post says 1 update is allowed: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...hread-2015-2016.1134506/page-14#post-17068392
But on the secondary it says, "MU-COM does not accept unsolicited application updates."
Can we send an update or is this reserved only if you're put on the alternate list?
Help please!

I really hope to hear good news from this school. Seriously such an awesome program with equally awesome affiliations! Also Indianapolis was a really cool city. To those accepted, you have usually heard back in like two weeks correct?

For our interview weekend they said we'd hear back 1-3 weeks after. And the weeks that you won't hear back they'll email you and let you know your file wasn't reviewed that week! But yeah definitely by 3 weeks they'll let you know.

That is reassuring to hear!! This was already a top 5 choice for me, and after visiting it I think it might be my top choice. I will continue to hope for good news!

Also for perspective students, take everything you read here with a grain of salt! Everyone has different impressions of the school and experiences vary during inteviews. As someone from Indianapolis, I would take up an acceptance here and run with it like crazy. I had an absolutely amazing time at my interview. I think those familiar with indiana/Indianapolis had similar experiences. Hope this helps!
