New thread! Yay! Only 2 months for 1000 posts. 😀

Some quick info here for 2008 applicants (to be updated as time passes):
1) All schools are inviting. You're application should be submitted by now otherwise what the **** are you doing here. GET IT DONE.

Tech is also giving out invites, right? And on your regular email, not the eRaider account they had us set up.

when the heck is A&M going to send out invites?
 
Also, Texas Tech has sent out their first batch of invites.

And to answer on the previous question, my top choice is UT Southwestern. After that is UTMB, then it all gets kinda fuzzy.

So this master file is something behind the scenes, a backend to your application, right? Has anybody ever tried e-mailing TMDSAS and asking them what that is?

all we really have are rumors and speculation, but a LMFU does usually accompany an interview, rejection, or acceptance.

if I were Sean I'd be happy about a LMFU. Maybe one of the schools is sending out interviews and notified TMDSAS about it.

Those that have gone before us have tried and tried. They called TMDSAS even and the people there swear it doesn't mean a thing. After backtracking on some of the old Texas threads, I did notice a moderate correlation of LMFU's when waves of acceptances were sent out in the pre-match. I have no idea what my LMFU means, considering my application was complete a month ago and I haven't even had an interview yet. It could be someone interviewing me, the database being updated to indicate that I already have interviews (thus allowing me to rank those schools), or it could be Al Qaeda. My guess is the latter.

1a) A&M - feels wierd saying that but it's a good school (Hook'em)
3) UTMB - a real longshot for me, but I'm an alum so hopefully that counts for something
4) UTHSCSA
5) TCOM
6) UTSW

My LMFU: 6/15 same as it was on 6/15😀

So, we can r/o (rule out) that the LMFU is from TCOM, because you and I both have TCOM interviews. Anyone here with a Tech or UTMB interview and a recent LMFU? Those would make for good comparisons.
So I have a new idea. Ya know how it has our "pre-medical" or "medical student" or "attending" status underneath our Avatar? We should have an "LMFU" status. Everyone can list their current LMFU! Anyone like that idea? haha (I'm kidding)

What was the other school that had a black box around today on their schedule? UT-H?

Yes, it was UT-Houston. I guess my theory about it being an interview invite day was wrong, I'd imagine they'd have already e-mailed by now.

Seriously though, if anyone feels brave enough to call any of the schools and ask them when interview invites are going out, we will thank you. I'm considering calling A&M or UTSW.

Negative...my last application had a validation date in november I believe. No acceptances.

Ah, the LMFU controversy...how I love/hate thee. But just to keep the fire burning...mine changed to today's date: 7/13...c'mon invites!

I'm still thinking it has something to do with UTH.

Only time will tell. Since Diana and I got an LMFU today, it can't be related to UTMB or Tech. So, it must have something to do with another school, because we're both processed, LOR's turned in, etc.
My guesses:
1. A school interviewing us and telling TMDSAS. Maybe that's the black box with UT-Houston, Army. Today is the day they tell TMDSAS?
2. Al Qaeda

I still think it's #2.

Lol, nope no previous invites yet!

And I'm with Sean on this one...it's #2.
 
So I just spoke to tech...asking them why my status page said nothing was there, and they said it's because they have already received over 1000 applications and are backtracked, also that the main lady was gone for a week and a half. Wow, that's a lot of applications.
 
does anyone's validation date say: 000000

Last Master File Update. Under "Status of Application and Documents Received", click "Applicant Profile" and you'll notice the LMFU is at the top of the page.

Oh, and everyone's validation date is probably 000000 right now.
 
Well I called UTH to remind them of the importance of my application and the need to get my interview invite out ASAP. I'm not sure why they were laughing, but I could swear I heard a shredder in the background. Anyhoo, it seemed to go well and they said they would get right back with me. What nice people. I think I'll call the other schools with the same approach.

I plan to finish off the evening by running with scissors followed by tugging on Chuck Norris' cape.

My LMFU is 7/13 also. Before today it was 6/13 or so, whenever my stuff was sent to the schools. I've got an invite to UTMB, didn't apply to Tech or TCOM.

Does A&M's secondary website show a status change when you get an invite? My status there is complete (finally!). It took them almost three weeks to "validate" my LORs.
 
Finally got my last rec letter into Interfolio today. Nice to know that those won't slow me down.

what is the meaning of the validation date?

so the theory is that if your LMFU changes, you are getting some recent activity associated with your application, such as interviews?

that's the theory behind LMFU, but nobody knows for sure. either way, since the U stands for "update," something happened to your file.

ummm so ive just discovered this whole LMFU thing, but mine says 7/13/07 I dont know what it said before but i received a UTMB invite about a week and a half ago. maybe thats it?

Why I doubt LMFU means anything: mine says 6/20/07 as LMFU, which is the day I was verified. I received a Tech invite on 7/10/07. Also, my letters were received by TMDSAS on 6/27/07

So, neither my Tech invite nor my letters has effected the LMFU, as it still reads my verification date: 6/20
 
A lot of people must not want to retain their sanity if they keep talking about LFMUs... 🙁

it makes you wonder why people are all getting theirs updated on the same day when they didn't all send anything in or do anything together. why would it just choose to randomly update on the same day for several people?

someone should email UTH and ask what the black box on their calendar means.
 
I don't really think it means anything, but mine also changed when I went to check it out to 7/13. It was originally 6/11 or something. I really hope its an invite because I could use that type of news right about now.

Ok, for the UTSW essay, do you think it is ok if I outline how I want my career to go? I kind of have several settings that I foresee myself practicing in. I'm planning on going to the military after residency, then public healthcare, and inevitably private practice. I don't like to do one thing for too long 😀.

Ok, basically you have 500 words (or less) to describe what you want to do with medicine. If you want to talk about all of those things, great! Try to keep it concise though, and try to link it which the checkboxes you marked earlier in the secondary. Other than that, have at it. I've heard people have been accepted even without filling it out, but who knows what the future holds?
 
LMFU = Last master file update

Apparently if anything touches/changes the file TMDSAS has on you, you get a new date. Any change in LMFU could mean a number of different things (LOR, transcripts, interviews, rejections, etc.) I would tell you not to attempt to figure out what each new update means, but I was in the same boat, heard the same things, and still drove myself nuts.

Validation date = they confirm your actual transcripts match all the data you entered on the application

They do not validate everyone because they are not going to do the extra work on people who do not get accepted. If you are accepted I believe you will have to be validated eventually (I was validated 06/22/07 after coming off a waitlist). However, a validation date does not guarantee acceptance as mentioned before.
 
I have my application accounts set up with TCOM and TAMU where I can check my status. I didn't apply to Tech, UTSW, or Baylor. What about UTSA, UTH, and UTMB? Do they have any kind of status page yet that I can't find, or do I just wait until I hear from them?

None of those schools have status pages. I wish they did, though. 😳
 
Does anyone think it would be a bad idea to send an extra LOR to med schools directly? I'm hoping the worst case scenario is they through it away. Do you think it would actually reflect my application negatively?

A doctor who graduated from TAMU wanted to write a letter for me, so I called TAMU and asked about sending the additional letter to them. The lady discouraged it...wanted to know why I felt it was necessary to have an extra letter, wasn't I comfortable with the letters I had sent to TMDSAS, etc. She also said that they would put the letter in my file, but it would probably never be looked at. She was so negative about the whole thing that I decided not to risk it. I can't say whether that's the case everywhere, but I was definitely not encouraged to send one to TAMU.
 
so, if LMFU really does deal with interviews as you say, why wasn't mine updated when UTMB sent out interview invites?
