I am trying to brainstorm ways in which a student with a bachelor's in Biomedical Engineering would add to the diversity of the medical school class in a positive way.
In practice, it could be beneficial to assess the clinical relevance of novel medical devices, technological integration, or...
Hi, I'm considering the MD/PhD Program. I would first graduate in an engineering field. I'm hesitating between majoring in biomedical engineering with a minor in electrical engineering and majoring in electrical engineering with minor in biomedical engineering. From what I have read, the latter...
Without my engineering courses, my BCPM GPA is a 3.38.
With my engineering courses, my BCPM GPA is a 3.68.
Huge difference.
Some have told me flat out that engineering courses don't count towards BCPM, while others have said it depends on the "primary content" of the course (is the course...
Hi all,
I'm a BME major, and obviously, I have taken a lot of BME classes. I know that many schools require letters from "science" professors. Because of COVID, I only have real connections to the professors in my major. These classes are math and science heavy in my opinion (biomechanics...
I’m an American sophomore student studying Biomedical Engineering in Japan.
I have lived 2/3 of my life outside the US (7 years in Argentina and almost 6 in Japan). I speak English, Spanish and Japanese fluently.
And I’m planning to go back to the states after living 13 years abroad to transfer...
Yes I know, I am 26 year old who will be starting post secondary education soon. I am almost always depressed about it. I will be older than most people in my class who will be in their 18s or 19s.
Reason for being a Mature student, is that after dropping out of high school I was depressed, now...
Hello everyone,
I wanted to ask for advice for a decision I'm trying to make. For the summer, I am deciding between a REU (research with diseases) or an internship with a biomedical device company (this would be mostly machinery work). Do medical schools usually have a greater preference for...
Hi everyone!
I am new on SDN but please bear with me if I am not following the typical format of the forums here!
I am a rising sophomore in undergrad majoring in biomedical engineering. I am a pre-med student. I originally chose this major over the typical biology route to provide myself a...
I've completed my BS in Neurobiology and MS in Medical Physiology. I'm looking to apply to med school programs next summer after taking my MCAT Jan 2019. This summer I have done a lot of reading and research into companies that create medical devices and have used BME to produce "cutting edge"...

I’ve been extremely interested in majoring in Biomedical Engineering but I don’t want to screw myself over before med school. Math is not my strongest subject however just the very theory is extremely interesting to me. I mean, who wouldn’t want to learn how to engineer proteins? Am I making the...
I should begin by saying that I understand the regenerative medicine isn't a specialty in itself and in generally stem cell treatments aren't especially common, but I am interested in becoming a physician-scientist and do translation stem cell research while still practicing medicine.
So...
Hey, guys! I was looking around online for some resources that could help me out, and I came across this cool site! (I seriously can't believe I am just now hearing of this.) I am new to this, so if this post doesn't belong here, please let me know.
I was wondering if you all could chance me on...
Hi, I recently received all of my undergrad college admissions decisions and need to make my school choice very soon. I intend on studying biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) on the premed track. I really want to be a doctor.
My top options are: M.I.T., University of Virginia, UC...
I have been accepted into UTA and UW so far. I am finding it difficult to choose a college. At the moment, I am drawn to the atmosphere and social life at UT, but I am also drawn to the academic rigor and ranking of UW for pre-med. I've heard that UCSD and UW are socially dead? Is that true?
I...

Hello all,
I am graduating this May (non-BME engineering B.S. from Missouri S&T) and will be starting my Master's in biomedical engineering this fall (for my "gap year"). I am applying to MD programs in the next cycle for 2019. I have already been accepted to BME MS programs at Northwestern and...

Hi All,
I'm a freshman and am coming up on my summer deadlines. It's coming down to either...
a) Working at a summer camp. I would be a counselor, in charge of two sets of 15 kids for two 1 month sessions, taking them to activities, etc. It's not volunteer, it's not for people of disabilities...
Hello all,
I intend to apply for medical school next summer to start in the fall of 2019. I have an unusual background. I am a non-traditional student, 28 y/o, and have 6 credit hours left on a BS in civil engineering. I had my heart set on an engineering degree when I went back to college...
I have read hundreds of blogs on here, including all that relate to this question. However I was hoping for more guidance.
I am a biomedical engineering student starting senior year and will probably graduate w/ 3.2. I have strong EC (shadowing, research, etc).
I was thinking it would be better...
Hello, to start off, I will hopefully be attending college this Fall. So far I've received admittance to some schools, in particular VCU. I am a California resident and also applied to UC schools, which I hear from in March. The point is, I want to know would it be worth it for me to choose VCU...
I'm a high school junior right now and I plan to major in either chemical engineering or biomedical engineering in college (depending on the school). Medical school is an option for me, but I'm not 100% sure that I want to commit so much time to becoming a physician. I've heard that bio/chem...
Hello SDN this is my first post. I'm a senior in high school with straight A's and a 32 ACT. I'm interested in going into medicine.
From what I've gathered from the Internet, I've thought of a plan for undergrad which is:
-Double major in biomedical engineering and computer science...
Hey guys,
I took Biomedical Engineering at the University of Miami, and these are the specific courses that I took:https://umshare.miami.edu/web/wda/engineeringfiles/BME/courseseq/2012/BMEPREQ.pdf
Out of these, I know for sure that all the pre-reqs will count, i.e. Chem I/II, Bio I/II, Physics...

FOR ADEA dental application Are BME classes (Biomedical Engineering) all considered as biology classes? Some of my BME classes are ethics in engineering or some is Statistics for BME so I don't know if have to consider them as biology classes or consider them engineering classes under Other science.
How did you guys or do you guys pay for University and also for Medical School along with housing and every other costs beside small loans?
So basically, I am at Austin Community College and applying for transfer to UTAustin/Texas State/Rice this this Fall 2016. Currently I am working at a gas...
Hi guys. This is my first time here on this forum. I am a undecided/pre-health major. What I want to do is help find cures for diseases and also discover new diseases that no one has heard of so this would be some type of engineer which is what I think a bio medical engineer. Also I want to try...
I'm a high school senior and I got 2 Cs last year. 1 was first semester in AP stats and the other was in first semester of honors anatomy and physiology. I really screwed up first semester and these classes were quite hard for me. But I those were my only Cs ever. I got A+ second semester both...
