is AECOM known for silent rejections? i've been complete since august and not a word!

I'm getting nervous/excited! I really liked AECOM but I feel like it was one of my worst interview performances... 🙁

I feel the same way! When I interviewed it was my first interview, and afterwards I thought it was just mild and pleasant, but looking back, it wasn't very good on my part.

I just got an interview.

I am debating whether or not I will be interviewing for an alternate position or an actual position...does anyone know?

When is your interview? Mine is next week...and I really hope it's not for an alternate position because I like AECOM a lot. I think you can just e-mail them and ask.

For those of you who have interviewed already:

Did you take an optional "Special Tour" of Jacobi Medical Center/Genetic Translational Medicine building? Was it interesting/useful?

Since they don't have a presentation, did you schedule a personal meeting with Financial Aid Officer/Dean of Admissions?

Did you schedule a meeting with a researcher in the area of your interest? Do you think it will have an impact on your chances of acceptance?

1. I did take the "Special Tour." I actually found it very useful and informative, and Dr. Dannis was really cool. Plus the Genetic Translational Medicine building is REALLY nice. I would definitely recommend it if you have the time.

2. No, I did not schedule a personal meeting with either of these people, but if you've been on other interviews, you know that pretty much all med school/financial aid presentations are exactly the same. If you have a specific question just ask your tour guides or interviewer.

3. No, I didn't schedule a meeting with a researcher, but I'm almost positive that this would have no bearing on your chances of acceptance.

Best of luck! :luck: AECOM is an awesome place!

I agree. Take the tour with Dr Dannis. He was inspirational and the building was really incrediblem

Thanks chad!

I also think AECOM is a great place, plus it's in NYC (my favorite place on Earth 🙂 ) I can't wait go there...I just want to show them that it's not just another interview for me, but I'm REALLY interested in their school...

I was actually talking to a co-worker today and she just kept going on and on about how great AECOM is and how I should go there over all of my current acceptances if I'm granted an acceptance (which is weird because most people are like "I've never heard of AECOM before").

I was kinda surprised, but it's a bit removed from NYC (you'll see what I mean when you go) - and there aren't any subways nearby. I had never been to the Bronx and I really liked it, but I was a little surprised at how long it took to get back into Manhattan.

Well, most people might have never heard of AECOM, but it's very famous and well-respected in the medical community, that's all I care about. Did you see their match list? Even without in-depth knowledge of good/bad programs for each specialty you can tell that's it's impressive.

I've never been to Bronx either, and I realize it's no Manhattan 🙂 but this is as close as I can get to it...and honestly, I wouldn't want to live in Manhattan anyway, it's sooo expensive... I think AECOM's location is perfect, it's close enough to all points of interest in NYC, but at the same time living is more affordable and location is OK (safer than Downstate in Brooklyn).

Albert Einstein is also my top choice. I loved my visits to the campus, both for the interview in September and a hospital tour in October. I hope they don't forget about because it has been awhile since I interviewed there. Sushichopstickz, who's that? LOL. I hope we all get in!!!

i'm afraid that's how i'm going to feel...interviewing next week, which means i'm in the very beginning of their second interview season...by the time they are making decisions and offering second round of acceptances, they might forget who i was and why they have to accept me... will try really hard to leave an unforgettable impression

3 more days till jan 15th!

Ah!

Does anyone know how they'll communicate decisions to us? I'm guessing an e-mail on the 15th?? Has anyone heard of them delaying the decision date?

I haven't heard about a decision delay. Haha I just got a confirmation of them receiving my update letter that I sent about 10 days ago. But now that I think about it, I'm not sure what good it would have done if they've already decided on my file - which they probably did since I interviewed back in September...argh this is making me nervous!

does anybody have numbers as to how many get interviewed and how many get accepted and ultimately matriculate? thanks!

From Fall 2007:
7416 applied, 1446 interviewed, 541 were accepted, 183 enrolled

Hey Chad, I know this isn't the Rochester thread but you must have access to this resource. Can you tell me the numbers for Rochester? If you want post them here or in that thread, don't think it matters much. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Sure - I'll post them in the Rochester secondary thread (link).

This is my thoughts exactly. I thought I did well at the time but now that I think back on it: it was probably my worst interview. Too bad because it seemed like an awesome school.

Thanks again Chad. Best of luck with Einstein. I also felt like my performance wasn't the best there but I guess we'll find out Thursday.

I also interviewed at Albert Einstein back in September and I sorta have the same post-interview consensus as everyone. I hope we all get it (Optimism)! AECOM is a great school! Yay.

No problem! It's funny how we all think AECOM was one of our worst interviews... maybe we didn't all do as badly as we think.

Best of luck you guys! :xf: :luck:

I think that the lack of feedback is what is killing us and makes think that we did bad in the interview.

Interview invite today! Yippee!!!!! Date is TBA, but I requested March 26th.

I know its a very late interview, but the school is one of my top choices, and I am so happy just to have a chance. I realize that I will probably be interviewing for a spot on the waitlist, but I don't really care. I am just happy to get a chance.

Update:

Just got an email back, and my date was moved to February 24th.

Still so happy!

yay on the interview invite 🙂

I just felt like my interview at AECOM wasn't as good as the later ones because it was my first - I wasn't really sure what to expect (and maybe the interviewer didn't either... he spent the majority of the time selling the school and comforting me and telling me to relax 😳 although I don't think I looked particularly nervous or anything; anyway, because he talked so much, I don't think I said nearly as much...). But anyway, :xf:

Good luck everyone!

Rejected by snail mail today. They don't do silent rejections, at least!

i sent a ' in the area' email last friday. how long do they take to reply??

I think AECOM usually takes a while. They confirmed receipt of an email I sent 10 days prior.

Btw, I just called the admissions office, and the lady on the phone said that there will be no email decisions. Decisions will come by snail mail... I asked about preferred address vs. permanent address (Just so I'll know where to look out for) but I didn't get an answer for that...

🙁 So that means we won't hear anything until probably Saturday at the earliest!

If the poster above was rejected post-interview, then it sounds like they've already started mailing stuff perhaps?

I may be completely wrong, but I assumed the poster was talking about pre-interview (because s/he mentioned oh, at least AECOM doesn't to silent rejection... <--which I usually take to mean pre-interview status).

The person I talked to on the phone also said that AECOM hasn't mailed out any [post-interview] decisions yet.

well, that sucks... Don't tell us the 15th then because unless you live in the admissions office you won't find out!

Well according to the USPS website, IF a large envelope were to be mailed on the 15th from the Bronx it should arrive in my mailbox on the 17th.

Good luck you guys! :xf: :luck:

How did you know this? Joke, right? At this point, my wit regarding anything med school-related is completely drying out. 😏

Oh crap, I just read that again and it sounded like I KNEW a large envelope would be coming from the Bronx.

I meant it purely as speculation...

IF a large envelope were to be mailed from the Bronx on the 15th it would arrive at my house on the 17th. Likewise, IF a small envelope were to be mailed from the Bronx on the 15th it would arrive at my house on the 17th as well.

I'm so sorry for the confusion - I have no tolerance for jokes like that either! I fixed the post...

I knew what you meant but it still gave me a chuckle
