Argh, still waiting on Harvard NP and HST. Didn't apply UPenn (why? why? 🙁), rejected from JHU, but decent track record otherwise...

I got an NP invite, the hold status of death for UPenn, and no news for JHU. As it's been said before, this process is such a crap-shoot.

I don't want to break your spirits, but the MSAR says that last year Harvard had a 10th percentile GPA of 3.6. It's tough for me, but really tough for you.

Good luck anyhow!!

It is totally random - it has to be. I have acceptances to Mayo/Hopkins/Wash U. and had the Harvard interview, yet UPenn only just did an interview invite and Stanford is ignoring me (I submitted my apps pretty early in the summer). I'm sure there are too many qualified applicants for all the schools, and it does end up being random. I have a good friend from college who started at HMS in the NP program this year. He got into Hopkins and Harvard, but no Columbia. There is seemingly no rhyme or reason, unfortunately. But good luck to everybody - anybody posting in this thread will no doubt get into quality schools and become a good doc.

I didn't apply to Harvard, but I figured I should just post in this thread so I can get into a quality school and become a good doc

😛

Yeah but all the other schools I've interviewed at/been invited to have a 10% GPA of > 3.5/3.6/3.7 ... anyways we'll see!

You have the most hilarious MDApps profile ever. I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

I was complete uber late, because I submitted this essay dead last... I seriously thought I blew this one, but I was so burned out on essays I just let this sit forever. Does anyone know the interviewed/accepted ratio for HST?

Finally I can stop ignoring this thread, pretending I don't like Harvard anyway so it didn't matter I was complete so late. Whew!

I've posted in this thread but have no hope of being a good doctor... so there. 😛

Anybody else consistently fight the urge to think about moving to boston and going to Harvard? I keep having to remind myself that just because I interviewed, chances are I won't get the acceptance... I kind of feel like life is just on hold till march.

I got invited to interview yesterday (yay! :soexcited:). The two dates I picked are Feb. 13 and 18, but Harvard has yet to confirm which I will be attending.

Anyway, my question is: who is going on those dates?

Also, does anyone have advice on staying warm in interview attire?
I'm from Austin, and the bulk of my interviews occurred on days of 50-70 degree weather 🙂.

Just kidding, I've been confirmed for Feb. 18th. So who's going Feb. 18th?

hey there folks!

has anyone sent a post-interview update letter? if so, did you send it via e-mail or snail mail? also, how does one go about writing an update letter that doesn't sound too desperate? 🙂

Do you guys know when you can hear from the financial aid packages from Harvard, assuming I send out my financial aid application the day I get my acceptance? I am strongly considering several other programs that starts in mid/late June so I have to reply to those schools earlier than May 15th (like the end of April or earlier?). But how much I get from Harvard is going to be the deal breaker. I know they send out their offers in late March, which doesn't leave people a lot of time to compare financial aid packages, is that the case?

Tell me about it. Though I am very satisfied with how my cycle has gone and won't be disappointed if I don't hear good news from the schools I am waiting to hear back from.

Does anyone know when interview invites stop? It sounds like they ended around the second week of January last year... does this seem about right?

has anyone's LOR writer been called? one of the threads a few years back mentioned something about being called and i thought it was strange. is this standard practice, random verification or just for people with questionable character? i'm worried because my lab PI has been surly with me lately after i told him i wouldn't be doing a poster presentation anymore.

yes, my letter writer was called, but i don't think writers get called on a regular basis. one of my letter writers was called because his letter was accidentally not included in my packet that was sent to harvard, and harvard wanted him to send a copy to the committee ASAP (since they were meeting on my application post-interview the next week and wanted to consider it). i think harvard (in particular, HST) went so far out of their way to get this letter because it was from my current PI, and harvard requires letters from every research mentor you've had.

Does anyone know when Harvard interviews through? March? April?

(e.g. UM goes through Jan, UCLA goes through May)

I think your regular interview attire would be fine while you stay inside the building. Outside does get very cold lately (and there might be snow!), so you might want to have another jacket to wear outside your suit (there are places inside the building where you can hang your bunky jacket) If you stay in Vanderbilt Hall, the med students' residential dorm locating just right across the street from the school, you probably won't have to worry too much about the cold. But if you plan to stay some distance away from campus or plan to go out at night, multiple layers of clothes are likely needed.

Sigh, its quite cheesy but I think of HMS almost every minute of my life now. The interviewers, students, faculty are just so compassionate and wonderful. Sigh Bannie!

i love harvard so much it hurts.

i thought i can finally get some sleep without daydreaming abt harvard for a few hours each night... and now its just gotten worst. it was just so amazing. my second interviewer was sooo spot on. this is really the right fit.... the true fit... veritas. oh gosh. im going to cry so much harder in march, whether i get in or not..

thank you harvard, i am extremely honoured to be invited, extremely honoured to be commended, extremely honoured.

you and bannie should go together to see a therapist. i bet a harvard-trained one would really help you out. :lame:

Prompts

If you are re-applying, briefly summarize your activities since your previous application. (4000 character limit)

If you have already graduated, briefly summarize your activities since graduation. (4000 character limit)

Our interview season runs from late-September through mid-February. Please indicate any known restrictions on your availability for interviews during this period. If none, leave blank.

LOR Reqs

Submit to AMCAS the composite letter of evaluation from your premedical advisory committee. If your institution does not have such a committee, submit at least three letters of evaluation from teachers who know you well. Additional letters of evaluation from faculty members and others familiar with your career are strongly encouraged, up to a maximum of six letters (committee packets count as one letter).

A question...

What if neither of those prompts apply to me...

many people never wrote anything. youll be fine

I didn't write anything, and I really respected Harvard more for giving me the opportunity to not write anything additional. Bless them, those wonderful people who did want to read anything additional. 😉

Is anyone still getting interviews? It seems like the interview invites are probably all out now.

I think that interviews are gonzo-alonzo.

I actually JUST got one today.

After being accepted to UW-Madison, I called and emailed the admissions people to tell them I'd withdraw if they didn't invite me, and sure enough, the very next day!

In the email they said they had "limited space available on the following interview days" and then listed 8 or 9. So I think they still have SOME invites left!

wow that seems extremely arrogant

I'm surprised it got a response, seeing as a withdrawal is hardly a threat to a school that could have already sent an invite if they were interested... props to you though for your success!

Now the ironic thing would have been if they didn't read his email until after they invited him/her. Then Harvard said "just kidding"

when did harvard start interviewing New Pathway? Also, if you were offered an interview early, does that mean you have a better shot at getting in even if it's not rolling?

i think harvard started interviewing in october. and no it doesn't mean you have a better shot if you were offered an interview early...it likely means that you got your app in early and that your pre-interview reviewers were quick about their turnaround time

can someone tell me who the dean of the admissions is for HMS?

also, for those who wrote letters, which email address did you use, or did you just use the contact form online?

thanks!!

what contact form?

i sent thank you notes to the admin office. on my interview day, we were told to send them there and they would be forwarded appropriately.

I looked up my faculty interviewer's email on Harvard's directory and my student interviewer gave me her email so I sent it to that one.

Hey Guys,

I'm a first year NP student and am here to offer any advice/anecdotes.

I remember frequenting this forum when I was in your guys shoes, and can't believe it has been over a year since.

Shout outs to Panda and Zebra, though I can't figure out who Zebra is...down the hall you say Panada? hmmm...

At the interview day, they say interview ~150. Accept ~45. Matriculate: 30
Also, if you troll the HST website, it gives an annual summary in either the fall or spring newsletter of each year.

Hey... I have my interview soon, and I was wondering what hotels are close by.

I had my interview there yesterday and it was INCREDIBLE! All of the students there were really excited about the school, the curriculum, and the faculty. It seemed really welcoming and non-competitive, too. Either way, I'll be crying when I get my decision email.

Welcome back to the forum Hood2Harvard! :-D Join us here for a break from clinical epi huh ?

Hey... I have my interview soon, and I was wondering what hotels are close by.

I think a good number of people stay with host students. But if you prefer staying in a hotel, a search on kayak or hotels.com would help. I remember that there is one called "Midtown Hotel" that is pretty cheap and right off the Green Line E, which you can take to go to school.
