I would love to know before Christmas. Do they let you know if you are in, on hold, or rejected?

yea...so you get an informal email when they know the decision, followed by a formal letter in the mail a few days later. i dont think they reject post interview...they just say theyll review your file--aka waitlist

Yes, they don't reject right after inteviews. From what I understand, the MUSC ADCOM uses this procedure. They meet on the last Tuesday of every month to discuss their candidates. They will send an email and letter if someone is accepted or send a hold notice. If someone doesn't get in this month, MUSC ADCOM reviews the applicant's file again the next month (and compares it with the new pool of applicants). They keep doing this procedure until a candidate is accepted or until the alternate list or rejection list comes out in March. Good luck to the rest of you! I hope to see you next fall at MUSC!

hey, i know this is really late, but i'm OOS and i just decided to roll the dice on this school, in the large scheme of things, it's not that much money...

question though...are the MUSC reference forms absolutely necessary? my school uses a VERY similar form for the pre-medical committee which gets submitted, would I still have to ask professors to fill these out, or just the committee...sorry if im incomprehensible, pretty tired but wanted to figure out what the deal was, thanks!

No, they're not necessary. If your letters are with AMCAS, then they get sent automatically, and MUSC will accept them as is. My suspicion is that those forms are a holdover from a bygone era when recommendations were tailored to each school.

I received an interview invitation for Jan 22, 2010!!!! 🙂

Is anyone interviewing tomorrow? I was just wondering if there was a group going down for the 18th?

Hi guys,

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone interviewing and introduce myself. I was accepted in November. Can't wait to start in August! See you all then!

Congrats! Joan said they would send an email on the 23rd, so hopefully I will join you in Charleston.

hey guys, i've heard that MUSC admissions involve a lot of politics. like if you know someone that can put in a good word, you may have an advantage over fellow applicants. is that true?

i know the MUSC community is pretty close. does it help if you know a professor or something at the COM?

- thanks

I suspect this is somewhat true at almost any medical school in the country

🙂

looking forward to meeting my classmates in the fall!

Anyone receive an interview invite for Friday, January 29th, 2010 yet?

Can anyone provide any info on:
1. How many seats have been filled thus far, and
2. What will be the in-state to out-of-state seats this year?

Thanks for the feedback!
Happy New Year to all!!

Interview Invite for Friday, January 29th, 2010! This is quite exciting.

Does anyone have any updates on interview invites, interview feedback, acceptances, holds, etc? Looking forward to my interview on 01/22!!!!🙂

Interview went GREAT on Friday. Everyone was so nice, totally non-confrontational. Love the school and Charleston🙂

Now....I just wait until Weds/Thurs:scared:

Do on-hold people inevitably end up on the waitlist at the end of interviews, or can they be accepted in late january or late february as well?

OOS, just got interview invite for 3/12.......i am very excited about this interview as I am moving to south carolina in about a month

do you think after letting MUSC know about my new address I will have a better chance than other OOS applicants

i applied on the basis of strong ties as my parents and older brother live in south carolina

Got an interview invite for 3-26. This is super late! Do you think I'd still have a shot OOS?

You won't have a better chance than other OOS applicants with demonstrated ties to the state. The only way to get an edge over other OOS (w/ ties) is to be South Carolinian.

Go ahead and change your driver's license immediately, in case you have to apply next year.

If they're still interviewing, you still have a shot. Make sure you review your application and are prepared to direct interview questions toward what gives you more points (they assign a number value to all applicants).

By this do you mean just make sure the interview focuses on your strengths instead of weaknesses? Or are there specific topics that "score well" on their scale?
Or is it more that you want to cover as much ground as posible during the interview so they can check off more boxes?

Acceptance/hold e-mails from January interviews should be coming out today...please post any correspondence and time received! Thanks and good luck to all who are waiting! BTW, how about them Gamecocks upsetting #1 Kentucky last nite? Whoooo!

...time feels like it is standing still waiting for "THE" email.....:scared::xf:

🙁 "On Hold" So disappointed😕
Interviewed on the 15th, accepted today (27th)...

MD2BEN - sorry to hear, I hear talking to Wanda or Joan about the weak points of your app helps especially if you address it quickly in a Letter of Intent.

REJECTED. oh well, kind of figured after not hearing from them these past 6 months...good luck to those still waiting and congrats to those accepted!

Thanks for the support. The "hold" email states they will not discuss your application until the end of the admissions cycle. I'd love to know the weaknesses so I can address them, but looks like I'll have to wait...🙁

Quite literally, some things give you points. A certain percentage is given to GPA/mcat, with remaining points coming from residency, rural residency, diversity, varsity athletics, etc.

The interviews are the most subjective, obviously. They assign points to you based on their impressions of your character, so with regard to your last question, it depends on your interviewer's style. One of mine was point-for-point on checking boxes, and the other was very free-form and conversational. No matter what, don't force the conversation in any direction. They are all incredibly friendly, so just show them why they need you with your personality and demeanor.

Congrats!! Great Job

How long was the turnaround between interview and decision?

Just curious, I've seen your posts on USC/MUSC threads but you don't seem to be applying yet. When are you applying, and where do you go to school (if you still do)?

Im applying this summer, I go to school at Cornell but am a SC resident.

I've just been following the threads to get an idea of what things are like so I wont have any suprises next year!

Just wondering. Cornell won't give you much of an advantage over top regional schools (Davidson/Furman) with regards to MUSC.

To everyone who goes to medical school anywhere: once you get there, it does NOT matter where you went to undergrad, or even how you performed while there. The only thing that matters is how you perform in the present (honors, USMLE, etc) in med school. Don't be intimidated by big names; from my friends' experiences, they don't amount to anything (except for what they DO IN MED SCHOOL)

what county in SC? (rural/underserved purposes)

Yeah, Im not expecting it to, I didnt go into undergrad planning to be a doctor. Plus Cornell costs me less than half of what Davidson/Furman would have (same base tuition, but Cornell gave me a ton of financial aid)

I was just thrilled to hear they gave any consideration at all to how competitive your undergrad is, I was just expecting them to straight plug your GPA into a formula regardless of where you went!

Im from Charleston County so I wont get any rural points, but it did give me the advantage of doing all my shadowing and volunteering at MUSC.
