Are you guys thinking that everyone in the first batch went out already, or just a few random ones?

I don't think they'd just send out some random ones. But we'll see. Why does my mail have to come at like 6?? I want it now, so I can stop freaking about today and starting freaking about tomorrow.

Ksmi: relax and breathe 🙂
Considering most of us submitted pretty early our fates have been decided at Vandy by this point for the most part. Now we just have to wait to hear back. That said, I must admit, I will have butterflies in my stomach when today's mail comes in hehe

do they send you a notification of an interview invite my email as well as regular mail? or is it just regular mail?

I think its snail mail only...on the mail is the pw or w/e for the 2ndary. could be wrong but i remmeber it being that way from reading last years thread.

Paper invite/rejection only. From then on the secondary is online.

Yeah, what he said. Don't know why they still do that. Paper + envelopes + postage = way more than an email costs. 👎

I'd have to guess it's a tradition thing because of the special feeling of actually getting a piece of paper instead of an impersonal screen.

maybe for acceptance but an interview? I want to know ASAP! haha we're all crazy pre-meds and we wanna know now! lol

I don't blame you, cause I'm exactly the same. Probably worse because my stats are borderline average for most of these schools. But I'm just brainstorming as to what they are thinking. Haha

Hey guys,

I was verified by amcas on 6/17 and got the e-mail from Vanderbilt that they had received my app on 7/14. My stats aren't that impressive (3.8 GPA, 32 MCAT), but I have a lot of research experience and I'm a Vandy undergrad, so maybe that helped!

I'll post the secondary questions soon, and good luck to everyone else!

These stats with a "whole picture" applicant >>> better stats.

That is likely why you got the invite.

Congrats!

in the world of SDN where everyone has 37s you give me hope!

Yeah, now that the rubber has hit the road it's amazing how people who aren't 99th percentile and above 😉 are getting some good news, isn't it?

I just keep thinking of the MCAT forums where people say things like "I don't know, my 37 may keep me out of Vandy 🙄" and "hey, why are you applying to X,Y, and Z now that you ONLY have a 30+ 😛"

Just goes to show that numbers aren't everything. 👍

:luck: everybody!

see my scores may not be through the roof but I feel like I could sell myself if I got an interview somewhere. I just need to be give the chance is all

I'm in exactly the same boat as you two. I'm around average, but I'm usually very good with things like interviews.

Honestly, your personal statement and AMCAS were your real chance to sell yourself IMO. I think the interview is your chance to meet those expectations that you set and prove that you really are who you appear to be on paper (closed interviews being the exception, of course).

:luck:

This thread reminds me why sometimes, life would be easier without SDN. I wasn't expecting to hear anything from Vandy for weeks -- now I'll be calling my folks every day asking if anything came in the mail.

I agree that you have to get their attention with the PS and AMCAS. Lucky me, I don't suck at writing. But I still think your interview is a chance to sell yourself further and be like "yea I can write, but I can also make conversation, I have a real personality and sense of humor, etc" Anyone can be confident when they write something but doing it in real life is another story.
I just don't want scores alone to be what keeps me from an interview somewhere

I know, doesn't it suck to be away from home? I'm glad for SDN though; I can totally see my parents opening up a rejection a letter and deciding not to tell me because they don't want me to feel bad this early on in the process. Now I know to inquire about it when the west coast SDNerds start getting their invites.

Edit: oh man, I accidentally wrote "SDNerds" instead of "SDNers," but I think I like the first one better 😀

hahah ksmi will be chaining herself to the front doors of the post office waiting for them to open monday morning so she can demand her mail as early as possible

I love being 10 minutes from home when I'm "away at school". As soon as that letter touches the mailbox I'm going to be begging my dad to come bring it to me

This wait is killing me, I've only got 3.5/36 but I have my BS from University of Michigan and I'll be doing the SMP at Georgetown so I thought I'd give Vandy a shot.

I'm moving to DC on Sunday, I was really hoping I would hear back from them before I moved.

I got one!!!! :soexcited:

An interview at my #1...today is a good day.

thats so exciting!

All you Tennesse kids are about to drive all of us OOS-ers crazy! haha]
I'm hoping it only takes until tomorrow to get to IL

I've driven to Nashville in a day before... The mail trucks should be able to do the same, right?

if you want to be a super creeper you can go on the usps website and check how long it would take for a letter to get from vandy's zip code to your zip code. But that might be a little OCD...
I may or may not know that from experience....just sayin

 Nice.

If I submitted my primary application to Vandy today(it was verified on the 9th and I decided to add some places), how long should I expect before I get any sort of email from them?

Most of us who submitted in June/Early July got a notification on 7/14. From the time you get a notification email it can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks to hear back from them.

Great, I was waiting for the first people to get their letters. Now I'm going to be flipping my **** until I get mine. I give it a 93:7 likelihood of rejection... 🙁. But I still want it anyway to get it over with.

AMCAS Verification: July 7th
Email confirmation from Vandy: July 14
Mail Interview Invite: Today! postmarked July 30th

3.98, 34 on the coast in NC

Hope this helps anyone trying to make sense of this senseless process.

Don't belittle your stats! Please!! Only a 3.5/36 ...

Those are great numbers. I know there are some uber awesome applicants on SDN, but not everyone on here is a freak of nature. "Average" people get into med school, at least I am hoping so :xf:

I was all amped up thinking I'd get the letter today and it wasn't there. Maybe monday... dang
