Thanks guys! I really appreciate it, especially the advice about not thinking of KU as a safety. I updated my mdapps to include up to 14 schools (the total allowed with the fee waiver) including more mid-tier programs. I wish I could retake the MCAT but there's little opportunity here in rural West Africa! If I don't get in anywhere, this will be the first thing I do to strengthen my app, though. Thanks again and good luck!

No problem! Best of luck next year! :luck:

did they forget us continued students!?!?

Continued students don't really see any action until late May/June at the earliest. Perhaps one or two kids come off the continued list before May 15, but it is highly unusual, and it is out of a pool of hundreds and hundreds of students. Check previous years' threads, and Pritzker students reading this thread should be able to confirm.

I don't mean to discourage anyone on the continued list, but these are the facts: it is almost guaranteed you won't hear anything until mid May; you may be outright rejected in May if you don't make it to the actual waitlist; the earliest you might get off the waitlist is mid May through early June; and the latest you might get off the waitlist is the day before classes start.

Girl, I love your positive (but also realistic) attitude. That sunflower is def a good avatar!

A quick note on OHSU: according to last year's MSAR, they interviewed more than half of their in-state applicants (228/405) but only a paltry 7% of their OOS applicants (327/4094) so a chance of getting an interview there would be pretty slim, stats or not. The same goes for Boston--the school gets over 10K applications a year, so interview chances just by pure probability would be difficult (ain't stopping me from applying though). Just something to consider!

Yeah, I switched those bad boys out for some better options. Check out the new mdapps over there.

And now, no more thread hijack. Back to your regular scheduled Pritzker lovin' 😀

Not yet, I don't think, but I think one is supposed to be coming out any day now?

Hey there everyone,

Congrats to all of y'all who have been accepted. Yay for being one of the 88!

So...I'm still deciding whether I should go to Chicago. It's really tough, it's between here and Columbia. The money is the same, full tuition scholarship and I liked both. I couldn't make it to second look, how was that?

I'm trying to figure out the whole housing situation in chicago. Any students out there care to give an honest assessment of what most people spend on rent per month?

What to do what to do... 😕

Second Look was fantastic. Lots of fun, and quite a few people showed up. I met several people that knew they were for sure coming, and it was a good group.

I'm not a current student, but there's a lot of good info in this document, which was prepared for the incoming students last year: http://pritzker.uchicago.edu/admissions/lifeatpritzker.pdf There's a specific section on housing including a survey of how much people pay for rent. Less than $1,000/mo seems extremely reasonable if you're willing to live with a roommate. $1,200/mo and, depending on where you're living, less is doable to live by yourself. The Hyde Park area in general seems very affordable.

Check out a comment I've made previously on this thread about Graduate Student Housing--it's comfortable but not luxurious, and I live in a 760sqft 1 BR/1 Bath apartment for less than $900 a month right down the street from Regents Park two or three bus stops closer to campus. PM me if you want more details or my 2 cents about GSH. Here's a website: http://rs.uchicago.edu/graduate_housing/index.shtml

Any Continued students been in contact with Admissions recently?

I spoke with Sylvia Robertson on the phone on Tuesday. She didn't give me the full scoop, but she basically said that there will not be much activity until the waitlist is formed. She also told me that I should expect to be on the list, which was [sort of] a relief.

We reviewed my file very briefly, and she was able to point out a concern that the committee had. I plan to address this concern in a letter very soon. I suggest that any other continued students try to contact Sylvia. She is very nice, understanding, and helpful if you wish to address or clarify the committee's concerns. Pritzker is my top choice so I'm really hoping that I get off of the waitlist! Congrats to everybody who has been accepted and good luck to all continued students!

thanks for the tip aj. i just called and was told to make an appointment with someone else, not sylvia robertson. earliest one was next thursday so im looking forward to that.

So how did it go? Who did you speak with?

Since Dr. Gerrard hasn't responded, I'll give my experience.

The appointment was actually incredibly helpful since the adviser relayed any specific concerns the interviewers had and how I could rectify the situation. I wasn't calling to get off the continued list since I already committed to another school, I simply wanted to know what I could do to improve my interviewing skills for the future. Basically they mentioned something minor that I could potentially fix with an essay.

Thanks for sharing! I am still holding out for Pritzker. I absolutely loved it there. The faculty are so friendly and helpful! Good luck at the school you decided to attend! 🙂

Sorry I wasn't able to help you out here, but which school did you choose?

Just called admissions--waitlist notifications were sent out today via snail mail.

Did anyone get a "Multiple Accept Response Sheet"? I'm going to send mine in but but I don't know whether to check "I am going to attend the University of Chicago...and have withdrawn my application from all other schools." or "I am still deciding between Pritzker and one other school and should have a decision about my choice by [fill in date]." Since it's after May 15, I've withdrawn at the other schools that accepted me. However, I haven't withdrawn from "all other schools" since I'm on the waitlist at several other places. Are any other students waiting on waitlists and filling out this form?

Just got the snail mail from Pritzker; first I've heard back from them after interviewing in early September, lol. Waitlist offer, but I probably won't accept.

Admission department says they called personally few people on waiting list for acceptance. Any one from SDN get a call?

Thanks for your reply.
Do you mind to tell us your response to their acceptance call!
We really appreciate if you can share your stats with us...

Got the call this afternoon!! I'm sure all Dean Robertson heard on the end of the line was a bunch of blubbering 😳

I haven't accepted or declined the offer yet. My final decision will most likely come down to the financial aid I receive from Pritzker, so I am just waiting for them to send me the award to officially accept or decline. They said I should receive the info within the next few weeks. Very excited about the acceptance though! Certainly a top top top choice school!

Just got accepted off the waitlist. Wow! I do not know what to do. I was pretty set on going to Baylor. Does anyone want to comment on how Pritzker compares to Baylor???

They're both very comparable. I wouldn't say that Pritzker is worth double the tuition you'd pay at Baylor, though.

Both are excellent colleges, except Chicago weather is bad. It is worth to consider if they give 75k/yr scholarship (which covers all your expenses and tution fee). Check them out since you have incredible stats!.

No comment on Pritzker, but BCM is great there are quite a few of us from BYU. Tuition is cheap and the weather is warm! BTW, I'm also from AZ. Congrats though, and good luck with the decision.

Houston and it's daily 1000% humidity isn't necessarily a tropical paradise either...

Hi Nick:

When did you change your ID from Cole!...I am surprised to see you now as Nick.... Any how, I am trying to give reasonable advice being realistic about chicago and houston weathers.

I bet you, you would have not accepted chicago with out 75K/yr scholarship.

Any how, Congrats!

JR

That's okay Nick, I know some people can't handle the heat😎 I'd much rather have the heat though than this:

The only other thing I'll say is; I don't know who is/was this Pritzker guy, but he is definitely no KRETZER!

Thank you all for reminding me why I LOVE student doctor network so much, lol

Pritzker was kind enough to allow me to make my decision after receiving their financial aid package, so I'll be in limbo for the next couple weeks.

In the meantime, feel free to post any additional pictures of snowstorms in chicago or the tropical paradise that we call houston.

I'm also in a similar situation, I was accepted off the waitlist but I have a full scholarship plus a little extra at UTSW. I absolutely love Pritzker because of the smaller class size, P/F, better global and community health programs, and just the general feel I got from the students there, but they gave me a scholarship which covers about 60% of the tuition which comes out to about 15k difference a year between the two schools, I'm so torn, any advice?

I was in a similar situation with UTSW. If you're genuinely interested, I would highly recommend calling the admissions office, ask to talk to Sylvia, and explain the situation. Express your enthusiasm for the school but say that it's simply too expensive. You might get some extra money thrown at you.

If you can bring down the cost of Pritzker it might be worth it. I probably wouldn't pay $60K in total more considering how great of a reputation UTSW has.

Simple Answer: UTSW

Call Chicago for 75K/yr and if they agree, then it may be worth to compare.

Let us know your stats...

JR

My advice is not for every one calvan... This is only for those who had incredible stats and were already accepted in other top medical schools.

Pritzker team is already aware of these candidates' acceptance in other top tier colleges by looking at May15th AMCAS deadline list (which is open to only participating colleges but not to candidates). Lot of Candidates are not aware of this. I just wanted to help these guys who are in dilemma.

Hey tm425 - I hope everything's going well. I don't mean to impose at all, but I want to ask - have you heard back from admissions about financial aid? Also, can you let us know when you make your final decision?

I was impressed with how quickly Pritzker produced a financial aid package for me. It looks good, so I'm coming for sure now. Can't wait to see you all at orientation!

Looks like I will also be coming to Pritzker! Thanks for the advice it was very helpful!

Congrats.
This will complete all the seats!
Am I right or any one waiting for decision.

You have to be kidding me if you think SDN represents 100% of applicants (waitlisted or not) to any school. *rolls eyes*
