Quick question. I see on Vandy's website admission requirements that they require a full year of inorganic chem with lab. Do they want you to take a year of inorganic chem after taking general chemistry or is that the same as general chemistry at some institutions?

Clint, thanks for clearing that up for me.

"At Vanderbilt, you must declare through the degree you select for which program you intend to apply (MD or MSTP); you may not apply to both programs simultaneously."

Ok, so if I put my application in and potentially interview for MSTP does that mean I'm not eligible for the MD program then, if I get rejected from MSTP? Don't most, if not all, medical schools put you in the MD pool if you have applied for MSTP and got rejected for MSTP? I'm not well versed on this, just curious.

This will be my last question on here, sorry.

Good luck to all being interviewed for this great medical school!

Thank you so much! Really awesome of you to track my progress and to be supportive 😀

When is your interview? I am working on the secondary just as fast as possible so that I can get mine scheduled. Good luck with yours and keep us updated!

1st Rejection. Ouch lol. congrats everybody else. I was definitely reaching.

Ok friends, my interview is on Thursday this week. I'm staying with a third year host. Any last minute tips or advice? This has become my top choice school!!!!

Don't be too disappointed in the interview day. Don't get me wrong, I love Vandy and would almost certainly go there if accepted, but the interview day could definitely be improved. Several people I've talked to that have interviewed there have the same sentiment.

Talk to a lot of students/faculty. They're all very friendly and willing to answer questions you may have.

Still working on the secondary essays. What have been the earliest available dates for interviews? Im asking ppl that have submitted recently...

My fiance was rejected despite having higher stats than me. I'm wondering if there is an appeal process and if anyone has gone through it. He has similar extracurricular activities that I do and some overlapping letters. I have received an invite but has not scheduled my interview yet. I understand that there are multiple factors they take into account while choosing applicants, so you can never guess who they will like, but is it worth trying to appeal?

I don't really know the answer to your question, but you can certainly email and ask. Explain your situation and that you can't interview without the fiance (assuming that's true). Nothing to lose.

Just finished the secondary (phew) and am scheduled to interview October 15th! Anyone else going to be there?

anyone else interviewing on Monday? I'm excited!

ps. I keep checking to see if they've uploaded my letters bc it said they'd do it on the Friday before the interview but they still haven't....hopefully soon

Not Monday, but I'll be there on Tuesday! Eek.

I sent my letters to Vanderbilt along with my primary from AMCAS. Do I have to re-submit them prior to the interview?

My interview is this coming Thursday, I have not heard that I have been offered a student host yet. When did you hear that a host would be available? Getting nervous about accommodations only a few days away.

Any info would be greatly appriciated.

I don't remember when I requested a host, but I imagine it's when I got my letter in the mail. I found out about a host on September 10th for staying Wednesday the 29th for a Thursday interview. Essentially, if you haven't heard by a week out, then you should get a hotel or stay at Orange House. I heard good things about it. Hope you get a host anyway!

I never heard anything about a host when I interviewed, so it's probably not looking so good for you. You can try e-mailing or calling the office just to make sure, but I'd go ahead and get a hotel lined up.

For those of you who have recently scheduled interviews, do you know what the current earliest interview date available is?

Does Vanderbilt respond to in the area emails?

Thanks! And good luck to those of you with upcoming interviews at Vandy!

Got my interview invite! AMCAS submitted 8/4, verified 8/30.

Very excited!!

Did anyone get an email from Vandy about scheduling a tour of the Office for Diversity on the day of your interview?

Is anyone doing that? When should we schedule the tour for? Or is it even worth it...?

Also, if I have to report to the Admissions Office at 8:30 but my interview isn't until 10AM, do I basically have free time until 10? Would that be a good time to go to the Diversity Office/ talk with students/ etc?

Just submitted my secondary so I'm getting ready to schedule now. There are some dates that are very soon-- around 2 weeks away!

I scheduled for Oct 15th at 8am!! So excited!

Congrats! I will be there on the 15th also. My interview is at 9am... I'm nervous already. See you there!

For those of you who have recently scheduled interviews, do you know what the current earliest interview date available is?

As of a week ago, from my limited memory, the available dates (at least in Oct/Nov) were:

Oct 8th
Oct 15
Nov 29th

I know there is another one earlier in November, but I don't recall what it was. Sorry to be of limited help, but hopefully it gives you an idea.

9am was full by the time I scheduled, so I'm there at 8am. Since I'm from the west coast, that's going to feel like 6am for me. O_O. I'm really excited though! See you there!

Now I need to fill out a student host request. I hope it's not too late.

hey i was wondering if anyone can help me out! i have an interview coming up soon and haven't logged into my secondary in a while! i can't find the paper that has my username/password. i'm at the login site and it has my username saved, but i don't remember what the password they gave me was! can anyone help me remember... was it your AMCAS number? AMCAS number followed by 2011? Last 4 digits of SS#? Please help...

I looked at my password and it is just a 4 digit number that does not seem to have a pattern of correlation to any of my identifying numbers (SS, AMCAS, etc). Maybe try calling their office to see if they can give it you again? Sorry.

I don't know if it's just coincidence, but my password looks like the month and date I got the primary received email, followed by the last 2 digits of my birth year.

Again, could be coincidence. But that's the only thing the numbers mean to me.

Mine seems rather random to me. I guess I would call them and ask. I'm sure it isn't the first time! :luck:

thanks for your help, guys. i'm going to call in the morning to see if i can get that password again. in the meantime, i was wondering, was there anything else in that letter that was important information regarding the interview? if anyone can copy any part of that letter on here, that would be so great. thanks a lot!

Dear david06:

Congratulations! On the basis of an initial review of your application materials, the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Admissions Committee has asked me to invite you to complete our secondary application and to schedule a personal interview.

We ask that you submit the secondary application before scheduling your interview. You may schedule your interview by entering the IRS (Interview Reservation Scheduler) after submitting your secondary application. Instructions for entering the Interview Reservation Scheduler are on the secondary application. A visit to the medical school campus will afford an opportunity for you to meet with students and faculty. Recommendation letters should be requested by the time you submit your secondary application.

On your interview day, please report to the Medical School Admissions Office, 215 Light Hall. If your interview is scheduled for the morning, please report to the Medical School Admissions Office by 8:30 a.m. If you are having an 8:00 a.m. interview, please report at 7:45 am. You will have an Information Session at 11:15 a.m. and a tour of the medical school conducted by our students followed by lunch. A tour of CELA and the Children's Hospital will be given at 2:15 p.m. Your day will end at about 3:00 p.m.

You may access the on-line secondary application and monitor your application status at the web address: https://admissions.mc.vanderbilt.edu/md/applicant/app_logon.asp.

Your User ID is MDXXXXXXYZ. Your password is AAAA. (where XXXXXX are the first 6 letters of my last name, Y is my first initial, Z is my middle initial, AAAA are 4 seemingly random numbers)

We look forward to meeting you and learning more about you, and sharing with you why Vanderbilt is such a unique place to complete your medical education.

Sincerely,

John A. Zic, M.D.
Associate Dean for Admissions

If you are wise you will go! You talk with Dr. Hill and he is a member of the Ad Com, so he can put in a good word for you if the talk goes well. He's a cool guy. He took notes on my application so it's kind of an impromptu interview, which I wasn't prepared for! It's worth it so you can have one more person vouch for your acceptance.

I just interviewed today! Our group was amazing - I think 7 or 8 girls. PM me if you were one of them!!

I just got the secondary/interview invite today -- complete on 9/20. Excited to visit Nashville!

Yeah, I know it's confusing, lol. George Arms wrote the intro to one of my favorite books. : )

I just scheduled a Monday interview in December.

Would I be able to comfortably catch a 6:30 p.m. flight on the evening of my interview day? I'd be willing to rent a car if the only way to do it reasonably were driving.

What time is the absolute latest I'd be done with the interview day? How long does it take to drive from Vanderbilt to the airport around that time of day?

The last item on the schedule is a tour of the Children's Hospital, from 2:15 to 3, but this tour is optional if you need to leave early. So you can definitely catch a flight. It takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the airport (without heavy traffic, of course), and the Nashville airport is soo small and fast. You can get through security pretty fast.

My gf got me to the airport from the campus during rush hour in about 20 minutes. It really doesn't take long at all. And as george said, don't feel bad if you skip the tour of the Children's hospital. It really isn't all that informative anyway.
