Hey guys!

Congrats to all those accepted, and good luck to those still waiting to hear!

For those who have been accepted, there is a Facebook Group for people to chat, exchange questions/answers, and get to know each other.

Looking forward to seeing you all in August!

I saw this last year and the year before on the boards, but I got the email from Einstein asking if I'm still interested and if they remain my number 1 choice (which it is). If I remember correctly from the old boards, most of the people who got that email was eventually accepted so I'm excited.

Are you on the high priority wait list?

Nice, congrats! Definitely seems like good news.

May I ask when you interviewed/were placed on high priority?

has anyone received any information about the biochem course? looking through older threads it seems like it was only for non-science majors? i was a science major but i've had time off and would like a refresher.

I remember last year they really never did send anything out and what they didn't really wasn't informative. So they say that it's most beneficial to non-science majors, but really it was great for everyone. Basically it's two weeks where instead of meeting 180 people, its just 50 so you get to bond really well and they organize trips to the beach and bowling and stuff. You also egt to move in early, and settle in and get comfortable with the area. I really didn't want to go but ended up loving it. Oh, and as for the classes, no one really did any of the home work and there are tests but there isn't even any record kept of what you get. Besides the social aspect, it's to give you a quick refresher on biochem, genetics, cardiovascular, and immunology. It helps ease you into med school because a topic that took a month in college takes two weeks in the pre-biochem course, and then is covered again in like 1 or 2 days during the actual year. Give syou an idea of how the professors teach their classes and whatever. Biggest advice is to enjoy this summer, and then if you think you'd like this, I highly recommend it, whether or not you were a science major or had time off. No one who did the program regrets it a all, and no one who didn't felt like they were left out socially or at a disadvantage academically.

Thanks for the info!

So do they send out a form for you to sign up? (and info regarding when the classes are such as days/times etc?)

Also - for some people is a lot of the material new?
I never rlly took much biochemistry or immunology in college

Thanks!

Yup, they just mail youa form andyou fill it out with what classes you've taken in the past and a signature that you'regoing to go to class, and then send it back. IT'll also include all the dates and other info. As far as what's new, it depends on the student. I never took biochem or immuno in college and some was a review from general bio in college and some was new. I beleive it was mostly glucose and nitrogen metabolism for biochem and then real basics of immunology, histology, and cardiac physiology. So honostly, whether you knwo it or not shouldn't have too big an impact, but yes, there were definitely people who didn't know all of it before med school.

Don't feel pressured into taking the early course just for academics. unless you really want the whole "experience" of getting settled in early, meeting some of your classmates, and taking a look around campus. Like it has been said before, people who didn't take the course didn't feel at any sort of disadvantage either, so it is really more of a "how do I want to spend a couple weeks of my summer" sort of questions and NOT "can I get a head start on the school year"...

I wasn't a science major and decided to work and earn money up to the start date, I felt my decision was fine and I was not at a disadvantage even though I never took a LOT of the science courses (i only took anatomy and the pre-requs.)

Lincoln5 and zebalong, thanks so much for the info and for all your other responses! It's all been super helpful 🙂

I think I'm going to take the Biochem course after all, it seems like its a great way to settle back into an academic setting as well as get to know classmates and area. I'm looking forward 😀

Has anyone been taken off the wait list yet? I am on the High Priority Waitlist since end of March and still waiting to hear back. Thanks!

Forget the HP waitlist, it looks like nobody has even gotten a regular acceptance since January

i just got on the high priority acceptance list today! interviewed 3/19. does anyone know what my odds are? i dont know anyone who's gone here or is applying here so i really have no idea... i would love to go to einstein if I get in.

Congratulations, comrade! I interviewed on 1/9 and placed on HP list in mid Fed. I was told that this year's admission is substantially delayed, and hopefully there will be significant movement within one month... Keep fingers crossed for us all!

Just withdrew from the high priority waitlist, recieved excellent financial aid from my state school that einstein will not be able to match. Good luck to everyone!

For those of you that received financial aid packages, how generous were they? Did you receive any grants...or were they all loans? (not counting the Research and Service Scholarship).

You called them? What'd they say about the HP list since no ones been accepted in forever?

Just withdrew my acceptance, and service and research scholarship. Hope it goes to one of you!

Same, it's hard to wait. It seems like it'd be clear now how many spots are open now that it's after 5/15. Will they wait to figure out who will come if accepted? Do you know when the Admissions office will start pulling names off the waitlist? Hopefully soon?

did anyone else just get an email asking if einstein is their number 1 choice?

so i'm guessing we won't hear anything until the 22nd?

Yeah I assume by then it'll be moving which is good. That email we got is similar to the highly favorable one given to applicants on the 2009-2010 Einstein thread and most if not all seemed to be given acceptances

That's good news, but I am curious if anyone who is HP didn't get the email. They may just be trying to narrow down the HP list before choosing applicants.

i'm thinking the same thing. but hey, might as well think positive since nothing in this process of smoke and mirrors is certain

Are there audio/video recordings here? And hang in all those on the HP. From what I can gather they end up accepting people of the regular waitlist so my assumption is that they go through the HP one first

Yup, got the same email. Hopefully will hear back not too long after 5/22.

I just got accepted off the HP wait list via email!!!! They give you ten days to make a decision. I've gotta do some thinking...

Yes to the audio/video question. There has always been audio, but now they've set up video (along with powerpoint tracking) as well, so all incoming first years should have it from the start.

For the record, I was never someone who was bothered by the lack of visual, but I think it's a good example of how the admin/faculty listen if we have complaints and work to improve things whenever feasible.

Regarding the biochem course, I 100% agree with Zebalong--not necessary unless it's something you just want to do. I was a science major, but was a ways out from my undergrad biochem course when I started here. I chose to spend my last few weeks of summer being lazy, relaxing, and traveling. I had a great time, don't regret it at all, and had a perfectly fine time transitioning. But if you're eager to get started, bored, think it will calm your nerves, or just want to ease into things and want some time to hang out in NY, go for it. Also, don't worry about the social aspect. You'll have more than enough time to get to know your classmates, and the majority will be starting right along with you if you don't do biochem. Do as you please.

EDIT: Congrats Posterpulp! Hope to see you here in August.
