For those of you have interview invites, what were your stats?

Check my mdapps.

Cinclus- yes, my status changed, but only after I received the interview invite email. It was in progress or under review the morning I got the email.

I just got my account info today and I went to activate my account and it says it doesn't exist. Did anyone else have this problem and then it just worked later in the day or should I call tech support?

Edit: Nevermind figured it out

So, the pdf is cutting off my essay at around 6,000 characters. The text box is telling me that I have 19 characters remaining...
Is anybody else having this problem?
It is as if they are not counting the space between paragraphs as one character.

Edit: Never mind. Apparently, there is an issue if carriage return between paragraphs

I had that problem with mine, but I just kept editing the spacing and the essay until I could see the whole thing. I don't know if it looks different on their end, but I didn't want to chance it.

Interview Invite 8/31 2PM

YAY! I am so excitied to visit providence. I've heard great things about this school and RI.

Congrats to all those with invites. I am from RI; boy I would love to be in your shoes this time next year.

I am preparing for my interview at Brown and I am confused by something.

In my US News it says Brown interviewed 248 people and accepted 218, but then under the "interview feedback" web page many people have said that there is a very low acceptance rate, and that of the 250-something interviews only 30 people are accepted. I had assumed the 8-year linkage program people were also interviewed. But others have said that an interview means a good chance of acceptance.

Does anyone know what the story is and can clarify for me. Does an interview mean a good chance of acceptance, or not?

According to the MSAR, they interviewed 264 candidates, 97 of whom matriculated. Presumably more than 97 were accepted, so compared to other schools your chances of acceptance once interviewed are decent.

US News says:

264 interviewed
200 accepted
97 enrolled

I assume the accepted # includes the PLME kids, so (accepted - # of PLME matriculates)= non PLME acceptances?

The 8-year linkage people (it's called PLME) are not interviewed. They have an optional interview when they apply at the beginning (out of high school), but they don't have to do it if they can't access an interviewer.

But yes, once you get an interview at Brown, the odds of being accepted are much higher than at other schools. Their goal next year is a class size of 120, if I remember right, so with around 40-50 PLME students, that leaves maybe 70 or so spots for standard admits. If you say there are probably 2 acceptances for every matriculant, there will be around 140 acceptances. 140 acceptances/264 interviewed = 0.53.

A 1:2 shot is pretty good as far as med school goes. The acceptance rate is still low (based on number of completed secondaries, not number of interviews granted).

Just turned in my secondary application! Hope it's not late in the game :scared:

Congrats!!! Great to see some invites going out.

does everyone get the status check login page? and how long did it take for you to get it after you were complete?

Complete Aug. 10th, interview invite Sept. 14th. 37/3.9.
Honored and excited.

Any input on how late it's safe to wait for submitting the secondary? I really like this school but I am broke and don't know when I'll be able to pay the fee. Can I stand to wait til mid October?

Does anybody know how late the interview day goes? I thought I read 4pm somewhere but now I can't seem to confirm that...

There aren't really words to express how I feel right now. Except that I'm afraid it might be a mistake and I scheduled it right away just to make sure they couldn't take it back. Complete: 8/19/11

I keep seeing complete dates that are getting closer to mine who are getting interview invites and it is driving me crazy. I would die if I get an interview invite

But, CONGRATS to everyone that is

Is anyone else who submitted mid-august still not complete? Will there be a complete email?

Thanks

This is a reach school for me and I pray that I get an interview here, but i know with my stats I should be patient...either way I'll keep going to the wishing well lol 😀 good luck everyone!

same boat! I'll keep my fingers crossed for the both of us = )

Interview Invite Today!
Submitted 8/14

Very excited - Brown is an absolute dream school!

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Got an invite today! But jeez, there were definitely not many interview slots available : |

when were you complete? stats? how many spots did you see left? lol sorry, you made me start freaking out

There were three days left in December that I saw; maybe they open up interviews in later months when they run out of the December ones? I feel like I remembered reading somewhere that they interview at least through Jan, though I didn't see any Jan dates open when I was signing up.

Sorry, I don't remember when I was complete for Brown, probably first week of September. And 3.5/38 (no idea why they're inviting someone with a low gpa, lol)

Hey everybody. I have an interview coming up on Friday and am getting super nervous/excited. Brown is my absolute dream school and I want to make sure I am as prepared as I possibly can be.

Any feedback from those who have interviewed already? How did you like the interview format? How is the new education building?

Thanks!

on quite a few web data sites i saw similar data pertaining to minority acceptance :

Minority admissions data 2893 applied, 76 interviewed, 105 were accepted, 41 enrolled
Is it possible or common for a med school to accept those they dont even interview? Also is the general consensus that if you interview at brown you are almost surely getting in? From what I heard they have greater than 90% interview/acceptance rate. Is this true. THanks.

The stats available online are skewed because of Brown's heavy reliance on non-standard admissions. Roughly half of the class (which will be expanded to 120 this coming year) is admitted through PLME (Brown's BS/MD program) and through post-bacc programs. So there are 60 (give or take) slots for standard admits, and you have to take into account that there are more acceptances than matriculates. It's a fantastic program, and as such it will be very competitive, but don't be intimidated! If you don't apply, there is a 0% chance.

During my interview on Friday, Barbara (the director of admissions) said that the school has between 60-70 spots for standard admits next year. They plan on interviewing ~300 people and will accept between 120-150 so there is somewhere around a 50% chance of acceptance if you are invited for an interview.

My interview on Friday was great. I have been excited about Brown med for a while but Friday went above and beyond. The curriculum sounds wonderful, the students were great, the new building is really impressive, the professors/ deans/ admissions committee staff were warm and welcoming... I can't wait until the adcom sends out decisions!

Yeah, I don't think I'll be getting an invite to Brown at this point. I submitted by secondary mid-July. I'm thinking about just withdrawing my application from them and a few other schools.

I submitted early/middle of August, and am starting to feel the same way. But I think in the end I'm just going to leave my application in, because it doesn't cost me anything just to see what happens.
