i wonder if WL people will start hearing back today or tomorrow....

I'm not positive but I believe last year they didn't start hearing till the committee could meet which was at the beginning of May. I just remember reading that on last years thread, might be wrong. I called last week and she said there was no movement. I asked if they could give us any indication if there were spots available in the class and she said at that time no. Maybe tomorrow we will at least know if and when the could be drawing from the WL.

Thanks for that! and yea that makes sense because I was thinking that it would take some time for them to decide before they starting picking people of the WL and they can't do that until after today when they know how many people withdrew their acceptance

Not sure if you were talking to me or Nibbly, but I withdrew because as much as I loved the school, it didn't make sense to choose it over my other acceptances (e.g., to my own state school and to a highly ranked private). Today's the day everyone has to give up their acceptances so :luck: to everyone on the WL!

to you - sorry im new to the site 🙂

well congratulations, its fantastic to have options!! U of A is definitely my first choice so im hoping to get called off of the waitlist before other schools start demanding deposits!

This may be an ignorant question, but once you are one the WL is it a soft rejection (ie if they don’t specifically tell you that you are accepted you can assume rejection)? Or do they keep you up to date on if they no longer plan on accepting anyone?

their waitlist is a legitimate one. they definitely have no qualms about giving out rejections!

they keep us UTD concerning their acceptance. ive never been waitlisted here before, but in their email they mentioned after the first week of June they dont experience any movement. so, if you havent heard by then your chances (i assume) are slim. since classes begin in July i would assume they send out a final rejection letters to those still on the waitlist.

did anybody else get the email about the WL....not the best news in the world to hear😱

i got it too. im confused considering i know people have withdrawn. does that mean people have already been pulled off of the waitlist?

the whole thing just left me with a few more questions.

I checked last year's forum and it doesn't look like an email like that was sent out at this point. Unfortunately, that may mean there was less movement (if any) than there has been in the past.

That confused me as well. I'm wondering if people on the waitlist have already been offered acceptances...I imagine that it would take longer than one day, since they have to review all of the applicants on the list.

Who knows 🙁

They over accept so that can explain for why no one off the wait list has been picked, yet some people have still withdrawn 🙁

that makes sense.

ive been accepted at other schools and said "yes" hoping to hear from U of A. so maybe other people have done the same!

no use fretting over things you cant change. especially tonight when you cant get an informed (i.e. directly from them) answer.

best of luck to everyone else!

I think that this is the case. If I remember correctly I believe they said that they were going to accept around 120 (which is obviously larger than the actual class will be). It was fairly disheartening to get that email. My heart definitely skipped a beat when I saw the email. I guess all we can do is hope for the best, because it certainly appears there isn't going to be a lot of movement off the WL.

Just out of curiosity, can anyone post the actual wording of the email?

Good evening,
Thank you for your continued interest by retaining a position on the wailtist for entering class of 2012 at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. As you recall, those who were currently holding an offer with our program had to make a final decision today. Movement from the alternate list has been very limited in the recent years, a trend that appears to be the same this year. As of today, we have a full class.
Unfortunately, we cannot speculate when, if at all, a student declared to matriculate might be given an acceptance elsewhere and leave our roster. Remember, although they forgo all other acceptance offers after today, they may certainly remain active on waitlists'. This is true through the first day of our Orientation (July 16, 2012). If a seat becomes available, we will immediately communicate an acceptance offer and will work hard to provide adequate information (financial aid, academic start dates, etc) before requiring a decision within two-weeks. The closer we get to the start of medical school, the tighter the timeframe to make the decision.
If you have received an acceptance offer elsewhere and wish to remove your name from our waitlist at any time, please notify us by email at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Tara K Cunningham, MS
Executive Director
Admissions and Recruitment
The University of Arizona
College of Medicine-Phoenix

Thanks for the post. That is a pretty bleak email. Good luck to everyone on the WL though.

So the 15th of may has come and passed.... I suppose waitlist movement could happen anytime

Why isn't Phoenix on MSAR?

Why isn't Phoenix on MSAR?

Phoenix and Tucson have shared a single MSAR since 2007 because they are a single medical school with two-campuses. However, Phoenix will have a separate MSAR once they become a separate medical school from Tucson's branch - they are due for a decision later this summer - maybe in June. This means UA will have two separate medical schools, Phoenix and Tucson.

I'm currently accepted to the entering class in Phoenix and feel I've represented this pretty fairly, but I'd encourage you to contact the Admissions Office to verify - [email protected]. Erin, Wendy, Tara or anyone will be beyond helpful and fast to respond!

Attend one of the application workshops if they're still going on for the summer. I attended this last year and walked about very informed.

Hey guys, withdrew from COM-PHX today. Such an amazing school and it was a really tough choice. Hope someone from the WL hears good news!
