I should also say that we own a house here too but are still going to keep it and move to Tucson AND we will still be better off or about the same with regard to debt because of the cost to become a DO at Midwestern. And I believe that U of A will provide a better education overall which is what really matters.

As a member of the AZCOM class of 2016, I think Midwestern will provide a perfectly good education. And as someone who took family and quality of life into consideration, I do get where you're both coming from in terms of moving / houses / schools / etc. I will say that I'm disappointed that AZCOM's education is so traditional, unlike UofA which has a much more progressive teaching philosophy. And no, I'm not a fan of how high AZCOM's tuition is. But in the end, both schools will get you where you want to go, as long as you're willing to put in the effort to help get yourself there.

I don't understand why they would write that their secondary application was "obnoxious (and technically-failing)"... What does that mean? Then I noticed the mispelling at the end, "understnad"- really? wtf

I laughed when I read this!

1) they are making fun at themselves regarding the secondary. Maybe it was fixed by the time you submitted, but many of us had issues when trying to use certain characters, like basic punctuation. I appreciated the humor.

2) get over a typo, Troll. Hopefully you answered the survey and told them they misspelled a word.

I liked the opportunities provided to give this school feedback. It shows confidence and a desire to get better.

Good luck to the WLsters!

What are you both referencing? Did they send an email post survey? Also, for all of us hopeful WLers, does anyone have any previous data on WL movement even though the class size doubled?

My husband is a resident. The goal was always to stay in Phoenix because of that. He likes his program and I won't ask him to transfer.

I am not going to Midwestern, though I was thoroughly impressed by them on interview day. I will most probably be attending SOMA. I know that is heresy on SDN, where MD is always > DO no matter what the circumstances, but I loved SOMA on interview day and on the numerous other times I visited. I liked Tucson but did not feel at home there. I did not feel like there was a difference in the quality of education between Tucson, SOMA, Midwestern, or any of the schools I visited for that matter.

This is a deeply personal and difficult decision. I know what the mantra is here, I've read the threads and I fully understand my choice. The last thing I want is to read more of that in this thread.

I love my home, my husband, and Phoenix. I think I will be happy at SOMA so the extra cost is worth it. I, personally, have no compelling reason to go to Tucson.

Waitlisted on Friday....31M, 3.95, IS, Interviewed 11/14

waitlisted, 34, 3.7 - still waitin to hear from Tucson, accepted to AZCOM

Hopefully Tucson will send you the right message when they get around to it - I withdrew my app from Tucson back in Nov and have received 3 rejection letters since! The most recent was late last week. Seriously, I broke up with them first so how they can reject me?!? It's just humorous by now. Am waiting for an acceptance offer next!!

Waitlisted, 31, 3.3

does anybody know how many people got accepted from the waitlist last year?

Rejected on Friday as well, 28Q, 3.97, OOS (California), Interviewed 11/14

During my interview day Tara said waitlist movement was small last year (and she said 5 people). They gave acceptances to so many people that they hardly got to the waitlist last year. I would think that they didnt do the same this year since that is cutting it really close.

Really? She told me almost 80 came off the wait list. She said they hoped to make it fewer than that this year.

Wow, that is something I would like cleared up. 5 versus 80 is quite the difference.

Anyone else having a hard time deciding between Tucson and Phoenix?

If you look at last year's thread, U of A Tucson went through 80 from the waitlist. Phoenix did not have much waitlist movement.

That was Tucson... since we only have 48 in our class, it would be impossible for 80 to come off the waitlist... (5 is correct)

I feel like there is no way to tell how much movement will happen because the class size is bigger this year and it just varies so much based how many people they have already accepted and whether not those are people who decide to stay with phoenix.

I'm an MS1 at the COM-Phx right now. Tucson went down to a little more than 80 last year (my friend was 81 and got in). Last year COM-Phx went down to about 5-6. As for the question above about how to choose which campus I cannot stress enough going to Second Look.

A few of the guys in my class were accepted to both and were planning on going to Tucson, until they went to second look. Essentially both schools will try to give you a better feel for how the campus is run. In any case, Second Look was pretty much where I met the majority of the people I'm close to at the school. Make friends early so the first few weeks of school are more enjoyable. To those that are planning on coming here, congratulations, see you in the fall.

You may be right about the five, but it's possible for 80 to come off the wait-list regardless of the class size.

You are correct... my apologies.

Anyone else having a hard time deciding between Tucson and Phoenix?

It is a tough choice, but I chose PHX. I like the location, curriculum, and facilities of the Phoenix campus more than Tucson. It would be nice to have a university hospital on campus. And Tucson has a more established program. But all of the PHX affiliated hospitals are really close to campus and I think they have done a great job putting the program together in Phoenix.

Just got the match list from today! Like last year's, it's really impressive.

Did everybody receive a default scholarship in their acceptance package?

Where did you get the match list from, if you don't mind me asking? I have been searching everywhere to see if the 2012 AOA/ACGME match results for AZCOM have been posted and have come up with nothing. I'm starting this summer and would really love to see this!

They sent an email with the match list.

Although I loved absolutely EVERYTHING about COMPHX, I've decided to decline my acceptance offer and attend my state school (it's much cheaper, and it saves me from having to sell my house etc.) but good luck to whoever will be taking my spot!

The financial aid office said that there are very few merit scholarships offered in the recruitment process, but many offered after matriculation. Can any current COMPHX students comment on whether any of these post matriculation scholarships are substantial (ie. >20,000). I loved COMPHX but I'm having a hard time working out the finances.

Thank you for giving those of us on the WL hope 😀...I love PHX and its still my number one choice...

As a new school in one of the poorest state (per higher ed funding standards), I highly doubt any scholarship offered is >20k!

For those on the waitlist, you might like to know that you may be just weeks from hearing good news - accepted students have been prompted to make a final decision by April 16. A number of us will withdraw and seats will open, so hang in there. For me, I have to make a big decision to stay in-state or to attend OOS and at the end of the day, tuition is a wash because of the scholarship I received OOS. It's been hard to make a decision because of the obvious draw to stay, but then again this is a chance to experience something new and exciting, and away from things that may distract me here.

Thanks for posting this!!! it really helps to hear this and get some hope back :xf:!! That is such a difficult decision because both options are obviously great opportunities, so I am sure you can't go wrong with either one at the end of the day

April :xf: Had to get some posts going approaching April 15th

Im really excited for next week! i hope theres some waitlist movement!!:xf:

Even though I loved this school (and they were my first acceptance!), I just withdrew. It was a very hard decision. Even their email acknowledging my withdrawal was incredibly kind and polite. I would have been very happy going here! :luck: to all on the waitlist.

I finally gave up my acceptance yesterday. It was definitely hard to let go of 🙁 Best of luck to all of you who are waiting and hoping! I hope this school finds its way to you soon. :luck:

This may be an ignorant question, but once you are one the WL is it a soft rejection (ie if they don't specifically tell you that you are accepted you can assume rejection)? Or do they keep you up to date on if they no longer plan on accepting anyone?

Why did you withdraw?

Not sure if you were talking to me or Nibbly, but I withdrew because as much as I loved the school, it didn't make sense to choose it over my other acceptances (e.g., to my own state school and to a highly ranked private). Today's the day everyone has to give up their acceptances so :luck: to everyone on the WL!
