Kind of a random question but given reveal of the new upcoming ASU medical school location, can any current students or people in the area comment on how it will impact the availability of rotation/research opportunities? Seems like a tight squeeze with already multiple med schools in Phoenix.
ASU’s clinical partner is HonorHealth whereas UA’s primary clinical partner is Banner Health. Honor has expanding a lot in the recent years, acquiring 5 more hospitals this year and planning on building more across AZ. I’ve worked at Honor for years and I’ve seen few UA students choose those hospitals, most choose to rotate around Banner’s major hospital, Banner University MC in Phoenix.

Working at both health systems, I’d choose Honor any day. They take care of their staff and nurses which I didn’t experience at Banner. With Honor’s huge expansion and plans to open more trauma level 1 centers across AZ to reduce the strain on the more inner city hospitals (one in the works in the east valley) I don’t see any shortage of rotations in Phoenix.

If I didn’t plan on starting this cycle, I would have been very excited to apply to ASU’s program. UA’s program is more established though and outside of the Banner hospitals, UA students rotate through many hospitals in the area including Valleywise (AZ’s only burn center), Phoenix children’s (AZ’s only pediatric trauma level 1), and the VA hospital. The added plus is Phoenix is huge and having a rotation across the city isn’t a big deal imo since you can cross the city fairly fast, unlike most major cities.

I think it’s interesting they are starting classes before the med school facilities will be done in 2028. I’d be concerned about the quality of preclinical, especially with no sim labs or dedicated anatomy lab (would they share an anatomy lab with the undergrads?).

Interviewed on their first day. Still on active consideration. Anyone else just laugh when they get the email now?
yes, wonder how long they need to convert those AC to A. curious why the web page is not updated from Jan 30 too

Do we know if this includes the offers made to those getting off the WL? This is a lot more offers than have gone out this year- and I hear from current students they’re increasing class size? I was using their published numbers and it threw me off thinking there was a much higher offer rate to those who interviewed than we saw this year so far. Do we think this will be the offers coming out to us on AC over the next month or 2, or in May after decision day? (edit: i tried to quote the post above about the website updated but can’t figure out lol)

Yes, offers off WL count to that number. WL movement won’t happen until closer to the PTE and CTE dates. Applicants will let go of spots around then so that’s when more offers are extended.

Yes, I believe so, and also to add on, it seems based on previous trends that AC will become waitlists a week from today. Then, I believe some waitlist movement will happen after the 4/15 deadline but the majority will happen after the 4/30 deadline.

Does anyone know when orientation is? On their academic calendar it says classes start July 7 but I didn’t know if I should be moved in earlier than that for orientation, etc

Congrats! What’re your stats if u don’t mind me asking?

Just got an acceptance call and very surprised. Interviewed 8/26 the first round and AC the whole year up until now. IS.
Congrats!! What time did you get the call if you don't mind? I am super curious whether they call all at once or spread it out over a couple hours.

does anyone know if they WL everyone who interviewed and didn’t receive an A? if not, how many people usually do they put on the WL?

Its a bit unfortunate that the only thing they accept is a letter of intent. Do you think if you don't send one there is no chance you're getting in off the waitlist?

I feel like they do because nobody has reported an R, but I might be wrong. Also, does anyone have any more insight into what they consider for WL acceptances if they don't rank order? I know some schools do this thing where they match candidates (like if a certain student withdraws their A they replace them with someone who is similar to that person from the WL) but I'm not sure if there is any information on how Phoenix does WL decisions.

I know someone that got IS R shortly after they interviewed in January. Don’t know how much that helps though :/
