Congratulations and enjoy Stanford!!!! We need more people like ourselves to selflessly withdraw from schools we aren't strongly considering anymore to help others on waitlists!! 😍

You're still holding four 😛 I'm surprised (and impressed) you withdrew, though. The big merit scholarships often rotate to other candidates in March/April as people decide to go to the non-rolling schools.

For what it's worth, withdrew from Columbia. Heart's in a different place. Hope someone gets my spot 🙂

I get my glimmer of hope from people withdrawing their Columbia acceptances. I can't seem to pull away from this thread ugghh. You guys are too awesome. :')

My cat's sandwiched between my lap. Fuzzy wuzzy kitty boo booo. 😍

You're the greatest wangers! super selfless!!!!!!!11!!!

Guys, waitlist definitely moves a lot. Let the admissions dean know if your heart is really set here.

Congrats to the newly accepted folks, P&S is an awesome place

This unranked thing confuses me. How do they decide who to accept? They just look at all the files again in May or is it randomly rolling? Just trying to think about how to send in update letters at this point.

Well, they do some second interviews it seems from last year's thread pretty far into Spring/Summer, but I have a feeling you need to continue updating them and convincing them it's your top choice and why you should be there along the way before you are invited. If you think it's worth it, then I hear from many people that by doing that, there's a chance you can get in. 🙂

Does Columbia give out interviews post March? I have not heard anything. No interview, no rejection.

"I am happy to inform you that you are a highly regarded applicant to whom we would like to offer a position on the waitlist."

Hey guys, I'm probably being paranoid...but I'm pretty sure my admissions decision tab used to say something like that. Now it jumps right to:

Dear XXX,

As places in our entering class of August 2013 become available, we would like to provide you with all of the information necessary for you to make a decision as quickly as possible.

😕

Don't worry bro. Same thing happened to me. Once you accept the wait list spot, the message changes.

Congrats to those accepted, please let me know if you have any questions.

For those on waitlist, if you really want to come then keep them in the loop. A large chunk of the waitlisted students don't withdraw, but they aren't really intent on coming. Make it easier for them to find you.

Probably not. In the past, rejections were sent out around the same time as acceptances.

hey mmmcdowe, do you know when we'll be finding out the date for the white coat ceremony?

Finally got my pre-interview rejection email today. Knew it was coming, but it's still nice to be able to officially cross a school off my list. Congrats to everyone who was accepted and good luck to all those who were waitlsted!

Rejected pre-interview. bummer.

Me three! Totally knew that it was coming, of course, so it wasn't as bad as expected. Good luck to the rest of you!! 😀

Rejected here pre-interview as well. Oh well

Rejected today. I had forgotten that I had even applied here lol.

Has anyone gotten their acceptance packets in the snail mail yet? Just curious when those are getting out...

I heard about people writing letters every single week for an acceptance off the waitlist. If that is what it takes to get into my favorite school, then that's what I am going to do. 😎

Good luck! I think the line between showing a school how committed you are and looking like a lunatic is hard to distinguish, but from what I've read it seems that Columbia really loves people who love them back. I hope you do get in! 👍

Soph, you know us Columbians are a little loony. That's why we're so smart!

To be transparent, I had a less than comfortable interview with her (she seems hard to impress) so I am still anxious to make a good impression. I know that might not matter, but still, haha. And yes, that might make me neurotic. If you were there in the interview with me, you might understand, haha.

Anywho, I realize I'm just being unnecessary so....shutting up 🙂

Congratulations! I also had her and was uncomfortable lol, actually Its a confidence boost to be wait listed after that bc it meant that she didn't just march in there and tell the admin committee 'plz get rid of that weirdo!!!' XD

Really, now? That doesn't send up a crazy flare and scare them away? If what you're saying is the case, then I'm jumping in the same boat with you! Although, I'm not sure what I'd say every week. I certainly don't have enough going on to update them with a significant publication/achievement/event every seven days. Lots of I love you, please take me?

Fiji, do you remember our student tour guide? Remember he said that he didn't get accepted off of the waitlist until like late July or early August? He stated that he wrote two letters (both handwritten) and came to turn them into Dean Nicholas. Unfortunately, the dean wasn't available either time but since you live so close, I don't see why you shouldn't try the same thing. Just a suggestion. If any of the students here have any experience with Dean Nicholas and think this is a bad idea, please correct me.

Oh no, I don't remember that. Did the taller one or the shorter one say that? I've kept in touch with the shorter one and I don't think it was him...he says he only submitted one. I had just sort of presumed that it wasn't kosher to show up at the admissions office, but I'll definitely do it if it's okay.

I'd recommend no more than monthly

I wouldn't do this. I've definitely seen kids get rejected instantly for being overly invasive (such as coming to second look uninvited). I wouldn't risk it.

It was the taller one and HH seems to be pretty open to meeting with students, if you wanted to visit her as well.

Keep us updated when they accept you

The above seems a bit aggro... The most important thing is just be yourself. If who you are is a person who writes a letter every week, so be it. But don't let crazy rumors influence your behavior.

Also, generally (i.e. not hard and fast rule) don't come here uninvited. You know who you are, but the rest of us/office don't. As you might imagine they have had their share of crazy premeds barging in there so the transference is not always a positive one. But the biggest thing, again, is being true to yourself.

👍

It was in jest. It is most definitely not in my nature to write every single week - I'm not an aggressive person at heart! But I will still do whatever it takes to get in without being a complete tool/psychopath.

Owl, I feel like at this point with the wait list the first thing they're looking for is applicants with real drive to be THERE. They want students more so who want to be at P&S more than anywhere else. And once they narrow it down to those students they might consider stats... So I know this number of wait listed students is daunting, but when it comes down to it... Consider attrition. 600 got waisted. How many stay on it? And then how many have the real drive to be THERE instead of anywhere else? I think the actual competitive pool is much smaller than we think... And if we're successful in conveying our motivation, we have good fortune in our future... And that is more than just you and I, that's all the people here who feel that way.

Cheesy moment done. Resume normal communication.

Then I need to morph into a Power Ranger and destroy the competition.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether a letter of intent should be addressed to the entire admissions committee or directly to Dean Nicholas?

I think it has been mentioned that either is fine.

But honestly I dont think you should write a letter of intent. Its not a good idea at all. Because if you write one, it will just dilute the one that I write
