Make sure when you are filling out all the secondaries that you don't lose focus on the mission and what that particular school is looking for. Schools care that an individual fits their mission and profile rather than numbers (GPA and Mcat) per-say.

A quick story, admission offices can act unpredictable at times. I had two friends. One friend had great numbers 3.8 gpa and a 36 mcat. The other had a 24 mcat with a 3.4 gpa. The friend with the 24 mcat had more interviews than the other friend because he fit the mold of the school. They both got in to medical school but the friend with better mcat and gpa had a much harder time. Confusing right!

Yeah that's what I been trying to do. I always look at mission statements and tie them back to my values, personal statement, and experiences. I don't know if I will have that many schools but possibly 30. Thanks for the advice.

What is Howard's mcat range . I heard they have been having trouble with gaining applicants

online it says that to be considered for an interview you must have above a 3.0 and 22 on mcat.

What do you mean by trouble gaining applicants. 6000 applicants for 115 seats or so, doesn't sound like a problem obtaining applicants.

Has anyone had any success editing the audit sheet?

I want to know if there is any way to edit the document before I go ahead and start writing in pen. 🙂

With the update Microsoft, it will let you type it in. I did not have a problem with that. Many people did tho

You may have heard incorrectly, there is no trouble in gaining applicants! It is competitive.

I was having trouble and wrote some parts in pen. 🙂

First time post!

I noticed on the website it says they invite for interviews a month before the interview will take place. If that's true do you think they will be holding any interviews in sept?
Just got notice they received my secondary--I really want to go to this school!:luck:

Got to mail off my secondary today. I ended up writing in my courses because I couldn't get it to work on Word 2003, 2007, or 2010. Got first rejection from another school today.

Great to hear that they got your secondary! I got the email today as well that my secondary has been received.

They usually will tell you a couple of weeks in advance for the interview rather than a month earlier. There maybe a chance that some applicants will be able to get the interviews near the end of September/early October.

Hope and pray to get those interviews to Howard Medical School!!! I really want to go here!!! 🙂

I hope you get into the school of your choice! 🙂

If you are using a mac word, you will not be able to type but if you are using microsoft 2007 and up on a pc computer, you will be able to do it.

Hey guys, quick question. Did you just write the answers in the application or did you just attach a sheet with answers to short answer questions? Also, did you have the same problem that one of the questions was formated in such a way that you could only type or copy/paste in a 14point font?

Is any member of your family currently (or previously) associated with Howard University (any school or college)? If yes please list name, relationship to you, and association to Howard.

I have lived (for three years or more) in communities which are medically undeserved, or where the majority of the population is economically and/or educationally disadvantaged. If yes please explain/describe briefly:

After residency, i plan to practice medicine in an undeserved or disadvantaged community. If yes, please explain/describe briefly:

No real limit, they give you a small space to write it and it doesn't seem like the biggest deal.
Thanks so much!!

I was verified august 11th but still no secondary yet? Anyone else in a similar boat? Should I call and ask?

I would call and ask about the secondary if you were verified. Some others were also in a similar situation and received the secondary.

I've been verified since early July and STILL no secondary. What's the deal...

Do you all know how strict they are about having letters from science faculty?

Try contacting the office and let them know of your situation. Hopefully, you will get that secondary soon.

Do you all know how strict they are about having letters from science faculty?

The letters of recommendations should be from science professors that taught you in your science courses. Or you could give a Health professions committee letter. All these letters have to be sent through AMCAS.

Through phone calls with the Admissions Office, I learned they're having trouble accessing many AMCAS applications. Your application, like mine is most likely one of those. I've been verified since early August and I haven't received ANY status updates or correspondence from the school about anything. Since they can't access my application, they technically don't even know I've applied so their system can't send me any emails. I called them up and a nice lady sent me the link for the secondary right away. I suggest you try doing the same.

They consider math, biology, chemistry and physics as pre-medical/science courses. So recommendations from professors in these disciplines will suffice.

I don't have any in those disciplines, so should I not even complete the secondary?

They received my application by mail today according to my Delivery/Signature Confirmation. I am waiting on a complete e-mail now.

Yeah, I ended up emailing the Admissions Director last night and received my secondary through email this morning. Mailed it off this afternoon!

Hey guys, I have received my secondaries for all the other programs I applied to, but still no secondary from Howard. Could anyone give me a specific e-mail address to inquire about this? Thanks a bunch guys, and all the best.

Anxiously waiting for an interview invite.... I feel it coming!

I am hoping for an interview too! I'm ready to start the next phase of my life.

I'm hoping and praying I get that interview as well. I love Howard Medical Schooll!! 😍

I received an email today confirming that they have received my secondary. Just hoping for an interview now.

Hey Everyone,*
Im new to SDN. I need some honest opinions about my chances of getting into Howard Medical School.
I went to Howard for undergrad, I have a 2.9 AMCAS gpa, 32 on the MCAT 11ps, 11vr, 10 bs, I took it twice though the first time I got a 25. I have research experience all four years of undergrad including 2 summers at the University of Wisconsin. I have been getting conflicting responses about my chances but so much depends on this I'm going crazy. Does Howard have a unspoken gpa cut off point??

I mailed my secondary off 9/14/12---still haven't received confirmation email. They can skip all that and just send me an interview invite! I'll be ok with that 🙂

Contact admissions. Im not sure myself if there is a cutoff. The rest of your application looks pretty good.

According to the website, the gpa cut -off is 3.0 and a MCAT of 22. You have a strong MCAT score. I would give it a shot. As I told people before, Howard is not a numbers school. They focus on medical experiences and your dedication to serving the poor and underserved. So to answer your question, it is gonna depend on just more than your mcat and gpa. Anyone who fits their model has a chance to attend HOWARD!

Talk to the director of admissions today and they have not even started reviewing the applications. That kind of surprised me because of the late start they got but the wait continues. She said they will start any day now.

Im thinking that the interviews may begin at Howard probably at the first week of October. Hope we all get those interviews. Howard!!!!

hey guys do u think i would be somewhat competitive at this school? D1 football player graduaged with 4.0. took mcat 3 x 22 886 but that was during footbal when i didnt have time to study. then a 26 10,9,7 and 3rd time an 888(i know smh really sucked. However I am a minority and have a strong service background including a 2 year service mission to ghana and have good expereince in medical field with a few job shadows and work in the ER as a scribe? Howards mission really attracts me to there school and I used to live in the DC area...any comments about my chances? i have already been verified and waiting for a secondary
