These are really interesting essay prompts. Trying to think where to start.

Hey guys after submitting my secondary I checked the document status of my application under the status tab and saw that they want a transcript? Do I have to forward them a copy of my transcript or is this a request for my LOR?

Let us know what you find.

To me it looked like if you are taking courses this summer or next year, they are going to want updated transcripts

We are specifically interested in applicants who demonstrate ties to the UA College of Medicine, the Tucson region or the state of Arizona. To that end, please share with us why you chose to apply to our program. (Limit: 350 words)

I'm still a little confused as to what they want here. What can we really say? "Yeah, I grew up here and love the weather and the cactus. I also like in-state tuition and wildcats."

???

Read the bold bit. Go.

But they say "to that end"

That makes me think they only want us to talk about our association to the state of arizona...

I can obviously go on and on about how the school is great and stuff. But it doesn't seem like that's what they want here.

It sounds like you're making this really difficult. Did you do research with someone ever in Arizona? Did you volunteer in an Arizona organization? Did you shadow an Arizona doctor? This doesn't seem like it's difficult if you're a resident. What about it is not clear?

It just doesn't seem like "I shadowed a doctor near my home" and "I did research here because I live here" are good reasons for "why did you apply to our school?"

It seems like the good reasons should be things like "The school's mission is a good fit for me" etc. Not "I live here so I'm applying here." But it seems like that's what they want.

Edit: I realize I'm probably way overthinking this and totally overlooking the easy angle here XD. I blame the polar bear.

So I'm still waiting for my application to be verified (submitted 7/9, way late 🙁 ), I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share the secondary prompt, I want to get a jump start on this secondary.

Thanks!

1) Discuss any experience you have had learning or speaking another language, even if you are not fluent. In what contexts have you used this language? How do you feel this experience contributed to your personal and/or academic growth?

2) How has your education, experience, and background, prepared you to inexact effectively with people who have had lives different from yours (cultural, social, religious, educational, etc.)?

3) PLease share a meaningful experience you have had working or volunteering in the health profession. What did you learn from this as it relates to becoming a physician? (If you have little to no clinical experience, please talk about a time in your past which you were responsible for the care and well being of someone else.)

4) Discuss a time in your life in which you have failed at something. How did this experience impact you?

5) We are specifically interested in applicants who demonstrate ties to the UA COM, the Tucson region or the state of Arizona. To that end, please share with us why you chose to apply to our program.

6) Do you believe your MCAT scores or GPA accurately represents your potential to succeed in medical school? Why or why not?

All prompts have a limit of 350 words.

Hi everyone! I wanted to wish you luck in secondaries!!!! Tucson is fantastic and I look forward to seeing you all during interviews.

This process sucks. From starting your MCAT study, through applications and interviews, waiting waiting and more waiting -- it drags you down until your 1st acceptance. This is really the WORST time of all and your confidence and spirits are at risk, so hold on a little bit longer. KEEP UP THE HARD WORK and do lots of fun things to keep your sanity. I recommend watersports, Vince Vaugn films and no rules raquetball to stay pumped. GOOOOOOD LUCK!

I'm with you. I'm going to try and work on it after work tonight... hopefully I'll get it in within the next few days.

I agree, this one was difficult. But is is only the mere shadow of the beast that is OHSU's secondary.

Hmm..interesting..mine says that too. Even though AMCAS has all my transcripts and I've graduated. Does anyone else's say that too??

I emailed them about it and this was their response, "If you have sent your transcripts to AMCAS, you should be ok as of right now. We are currently troubleshooting the problem, and will contact you if any further action is necessary."

Concerning this question:

We are specifically interested in applicants who demonstrate ties to the UA College of Medicine, the Tucson region or the state of Arizona. To that end, please share with us why you chose to apply to our program. (Limit: 350 words)

If we are OOS, do we leave this blank or still explain why we are applying? I'm a bit confused.

I'm guessing it's especially important for OOSers. They (probably) want to know you are serious about their school.

Does anyone know if any interview invites have been sent out yet?? Thx!

Apparently some went out last week! My friend just got one.

Any current students mind sharing their opinions on the school?

Got an interview invite today! My first one AND my top choice - so excited!!!!!!

Interview Invite!! Received via email this morning. Top choice, super excited!

Can you wonderful folks that got interview invites mention if you're IS or OOS and when you submitted your secondary?

Thaaaaaanks and congrats 🙂
