Interview invite today!

IS, complete July 30.

Question: Why am I just hearing about an II today when people submitting after my application have already heard about their own interview invites last week?

Uh probably because you're a less attractive candidate on paper than them? 😛

No offense intended, of course. But I mean that's true of any school...they offer the interviews to the better guys first.

Actually that's not true here. Just got done eating dinner with a med student on the adcom and they said that your app goes to a committee of three members. The committee must meet to discuss your app, then agree to offer you an interview.

The problem happens when one committee member can't meet. The other two make a decision and must wait for the third member to make a decision, which takes some time.

There are several committees made of faculty, staff, students, and community members.

This school reviews apps in the order they were received, but decisions aren't made until all committee members officially report a decision.

I've seen some very unattractive applicants already get interviews (MCAT below 30 with <20 hours clinical experience and sub 3.5 GPA) so I am willing to bet they are not doing a primary sort through applications.

Aside: I hope you weren't this arrogant at interviews...or maybe I do.

Alright I admit I was wrong.

I don't see how I was arrogant though 🙁

It was offensive because you say I'm not a good candidate (which this is a cyber persona and we don't really know each other so I'll give you that), and arrogant because you implied that you're a better candidate simply because you've gotten an interview before me.

I'm not trying to attack you for anything, just letting you know how it sounds.

Also, starting with "no offense" doesn't usually end well.

Oh no I just meant that as a general rule, schools tend to extend interview invites to the best candidates first. In no way was I trying to imply you're a poor candidate, it's obviously still way early in the cycle so you must be one of the elites.

I apologize for coming off that way, it was not my intention 🙂

Good luck this cycle!

I guess I was surprised because I have 5 interviews and my state school, to which I have strong ties to the region and faculty, took so long to get back to me. I understand now though!

I had heard from some interviewers about an extremely arrogant candidate during the MMI last week, but judging by your response in this forum it doesn't sound like you! Good luck this cycle!

Wow! I was in that group and everyone seemed very down to earth. I hope the MMI isn't that bad at judging ones character. Still seems unprofessional for the interviewers to be making statements like that to a potential appicant.

Ah shoot, you mean we weren't supposed to go into every station and tell them that we're better than they are?

Guess I missed the memo 🙁

Don't be so modest. I would have at least mentioned how you single-handedly stopped the H1N1 epidemic.🙂

Anyone know how receptive this school is to in the area emails? I applied to every school in AZ and would love to save on air fare should the school be interested in interviewing me...

Congratulations! And no I don't think you'll ever have to worry about freezing here. I don't even know where my jacket is.

anyone interviewing on tuesday 10/2? I was wondering if they're going to send out an email about where to meet, etc.

Interviewed here on 9/21. I'm IS. The MMI can be a scary thing going in but if you guys have any questions feel free to ask! It was actually really relaxed and you end up having a lot of fun.

P.S. Wear comfortable shoes!

Do you guys believe it is too late to be sending in a secondary and still have good consideration?

Interview Invite, September 7
Secondary Submitted, August 11

Interview's scheduled for Oct 27... anyone have advice for the MMIs?

Congratulations. My advice for the MMI is the same advice you will probably be giving people after its all over. Just relax, and be yourself. Unless your a total jerk of course, just kidding. It is so easy all you do is talk to very nice people and answer simple questions. Everybody is in the same boat. Oh and there is an essay to write.

However, I have not received an acceptance offer yet so take this with a grain of salt.

Thank you for your advice! I wish you the best of luck in this arduous process-- it is quite daunting and persistence and resilience is key to remain sane! I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my message. we got this!!

Congratulations and all the best for the interview.

II today!!!!! submitted 9/11!! instate!

haha thanks guys, yeah I got lucky with the third retake. Real lucky. best of luck to all of you!

Just got a kind of strange, ambiguous email. No interview now, BUT, maybe later... kind of thing

Same.... Lame

Sent from my ADR6350 using SDN Mobile

Yeah... I kind of took that email to be a... "we're not that interested in you, but maybe as a last resort" kind of email.

2 questions:

1) has anyone been flat out rejected?

2) For any current med students on here - did any of you get this email and then get accepted?

"Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Arizona College of Medicine Tucson. We are unable to extend an interview invitation to you at this time. However, your application remains under consideration and you may be invited for an interview at a later date."

I'm curious if there were any rejections or it was JUST an interview invite or a hold email!

Same for me. Here is what it said:

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Arizona College of Medicine Tucson. We are unable to extend an interview invitation to you at this time. However, your application remains under consideration and you may be invited for an interview at a later date.

Final notification will be sent no later than mid-February.

We will notify you with any updates throughout the season.
Sincerely,
Admissions Office
UA College of Medicine

My first "rejection" notice. I don't feel too bad because I am already accepted at a DO school and have interviewed at UA Phoenix already.

Life goes on.

Same here.

I checked the thread from last year's class, and I didn't see anyone posting about this email. Then again, I was searching from my phone so maybe it's buried in there somewhere.

Hopefully we all get reviewed again and land an II.

Same. After getting an II from Phoenix yesterday I thought there may be hope for Tucson. Oh we'll. good luck all!

I just creeped last years thread and some people who were put on this hold ended up getting interviews and some didn't.

Looks like I'll put my positive patty pants on after all!

Yup, I got it, too. I thought it was a direct response to my "in the area email" until I checked SDN. I'm guessing that since so many of us received the same letter that it isn't as bad as we neurotic premeds really think...
