Good luck everyone!!

On another note...Does anyone know if there is anything we need to do post-acceptance coming up? I tried calling Jason but it went to voicemail.

I turned in the two forms that came with the acceptance letter, filed my fafsa, and turned in the scholarship app. I am just nervous about not having any info on the deposit and feel like that should have been turned in already.

Mine is still there. I dont know if that means anything. My friends who are admitted, theres are still working as well. No letter today either.

@cmcbee I would assume there will be a round of mailings once the "on-hold" people get their acceptances. I've done all that you have as well.

And best of luck to those of you who are "on hold" and will open letters tomorrow or the next day. GOOD LUCK!

I am thinking the news is in the mailbox, but my mail doesn't arrive until around 6pm. Also, have you logged into your MEDS (supplemental) application? My information on that website has been deleted. I was thinking if I was waitlisted, that would be how they would keep me updated... I was wondering if they deleted everyone's information whether they are accepted or rejected?

Mine is still there. I wouldn't think that'd be anything other than a glitch though, but this is nothing more than an an assumption.

I definitely wouldn't look at all into whether or not any information appears on the Supplemental Application.

I can also confirm that y'all will be able to bring your own laptops, although Apple support will be pretty limited. I'm so jealous!

A friend of a friend that lives in Overland Park got his letter today

Oh my God... this anxietyyyyy!!! I feel noxious just thinking about it! :scared:😳

I feel something that sounds similar. 😱 😛

About 4 hours away from home and more nervous about an envelope and its contents than I am about the crappy driving in downtown KC.

Well lucky your then.... I live in south Florida, I will only get mine earliest tomorrow... sigh... another night with unisom induced sleep !!! hehe

what were ur stats? was your interview good? where'd you go to undergraD? ks resident? (I am worried obvious)

For everyone that interviewed at the KC campus, what were some of the things about that campus and KU in general that you found appealing? For those with multiple acceptances attending KU this Fall, what tipped the scale for you?

I really enjoyed the interview day and felt at home. I went to KU for undergrad and have family in the area. Specific to the som I like the block schedule, clinical opportunities, retake option for exams, and the students seemed very happy. Very patient care oriented environment which matches with my goals.

I picked KU over my other acceptances because of the reasons listed above and the cost of attendance was over 35k less for ku...also the rural loan program was appealing.

I loved the laid back feel of the administration/interviewers/students. I got the impression that there is a genuine interest in the student, on the part of KUMC. I especially like the fact that all lectures are recorded and accessible online the day of class, and that students aren't required to attend class. Students are free to stay home and watch lectures if that's the best way for them to learn (not for labs, etc. of course!). I consider this one example of how KUMC is attempting to provide flexibility for their students, rather than forcing everyone through the same production line. This shows a genuine interest in the student, and a realization that not everyone learns the same way.

Also, from my interview day, I think the overall best feedback I got was simply eating lunch with the students. It was from the students that I found out about the online recorded lectures. They were extremely happy they had chosen KUMC. I'm unaware of what other options they had, but nonetheless, they were happy. They told me that students are generally happy if given the opportunity to continue on at KUMC for residency. They spoke with a sense of pride about being "Jaydocs".

All in all, interview day was a great experience and I definitely walked away with a lot of respect for the program. Looking forward to hopefully getting an acceptance there in the next couple days, and if not, my impression of the school remains the same. Best of luck to everyone!

Ditto on the block schedule and exam retakes! Again, common sense, student-focused curriculum 🙂.

I guess to provide another perspective, I have acceptances at other schools as well but I'm still deciding where I'll attend. I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple interviews and one school in particular could be less expensive than KU even though I'm a KS resident.

I love KUMC and JayDoc in particular. All the students I know are really happy with their choice to attend KU. I'm frustrated with the lack of funding for KUMC from the State of Kansas regarding the new medical education building but I fully support those in charge at KUMC and believe they're doing an amazing job despite what's going on in Topeka. I would want to stay at the KC campus all four years because I prefer a more urban environment and I am from the area so I am nervous about the possibility of being lotteried to another campus during my M1 year.

That being said, I am waiting to hear back from all schools about finances before I make my decision. I really do love KUMC though and know I would be happy to spend my next 4 years there. Oh, and I went to KU for undergrad. Rock Chalk.

Do you happen to know what the general trend is? Do people get forced to the Wichita campus or the Kansas City campus? And how many usually end up getting transplanted that don't want to be?

You seem like an awesome bunch and I would have loved to join ya, but I've been voted if the island!

I have no complaints as I'm still off to medical school this Fall.

:graceful bow:

Best of luck to you all!

Lys

Sorry to hear it, best wishes to you.

Sorry to hear it, best wishes to you.

Thanks. I actually only applied to places I was really excited about so my devastation factor is at a minimum. Thanks again! KU was just top choice.

BTW, for those of you in Florida waiting for "the letter", looks like it will probably be at least another day.... I live in central Florida and my mail was delivered this morning with no letter from KUMC.

I hear the general trend for M1 placement is that more incoming M1s request the Salina and/or Wichita campus than there are actual spots. So as an incoming M1, if you have requested Kansas City, you will all but certainly get placed there. However, if you requested Salina/Wichita, you could possibly get placed in Kansas City.

For M3/M4 (clinical rotations), there are additional spots at the Wichita campus that have to be filled. So it's likely that a number of students who spend M1/M2 in Kansas City might be required to do years 3 and 4 in Wichita. The number of people who get sent to Wichita and don't want to be varies from year to year. I have no hard-and-fast numbers on that.

In regards to clinical year placement: Honestly just depends on the year. Like this year they drew 35 or 40 names..something like that. The year before it wasn't nearly as many, but they did have a smaller class size too. They send people to the Wichita campus because come 3rd and 4th year, there simply isn't enough resources at the KC KU campus to effectively train 175 KC medical students, residents, fellows, etc. So that is why they send some of us to Wichita. First they ask how many students want to go to the Wichita campus for 3rd and 4th year (you make this decision after going to see the campus) and then if they don't get enough volunteers then they draw names. You will know which campus you are assigned to by Christmas break of your first year. And you can always switch from the KC campus to the Wichita campus before 3rd year if you end up changing your mind. Honestly, it isn't a bad thing to get sent to Wichita. When I visited, the students were happy there because they got to do more, it was a more hands on experience. As in they got to assist in more surgeries, delivery more babies, etc. You get that experience in KC too, but in KC they train a lot more residents and fellows so you won't always be the one getting the experience, you might be watching things more compared to a Wichita campus student. So it just depends on what you want. Both campuses are exceptional though, and they do the lottery so that each student will get the most out of their clinical years and be maximally prepared for residency.

I got the same impression as well. There are more people that want salina/wichita than there are spots so it is more likely to be in Kansas City. I believe I read about 1/3 of the Kansas City people get other locations for year 3 and 4.

Sorry to hear that Lys. I am sure you will do amazing wherever you end up!!

Im sorry Lys, but everything in this life happens for a reason, I am a true believer, so go rock that med school wherever it might be 🙂 😀😎

No letter in New Orleans. CANT TAKE THIS ANYMOREEEE

Rejected. IS, 3.7+ gpa, 30 mcat, good interviews. Mediocre clinical experiences

I honestly feel like, based on KU's model for ranking applicants, they could have given me forewarning of my low ranking so many months ago. If the data varies every year so greatly that applicants cannot be given a "chance of rejection", then obviously there are problems with the randomness and subjectivity of the deliberation process. Maybe not, I don't know.

Sorry, Know. Hope everything else is going decent. We are part of a whole state, and then some, of people aiming for KU. Most of us had to bite the dust. =/

Im sorry...then I feel like I have no hope either. Good luck! you have a great foundation! Looks like DO school it is for me

where are you from?

Lifelong Kansan. I understand that some of us have to be rejected, that's fine. I just wish the process was more "compassionate" 😛

Lol, yea. I was a little insulted by the blue sheet. Honorable intent though, I'm sure.

What do ya mean though?

right...but are you from Kansas City? Or out west more

Letter came this morning and I live in central Florida. Rejection 🙁.

It's been grand everyone. Just a small piece of advice... it will be tempting over the next 8 years or so to wish your lives away, longing to be done with school, because of the hectic schedule, but don't do it! Enjoy it - time is the stuff life is made of. Enjoy it now, enjoy it then.

Thank you KUMC for the opportunity to interview this year, much appreciated.

Off for a four day weekend camping trip in beautiful sunny Florida! Take care and God bless.

Hope you have other choices, but if not, it is for a reason, and as you said, live that moment and take it all as part of life and an experience.

Enjoy your trip, its soooo nice out 😎
