I got a 28L (08PS, 09VR, 11BS). I'm a little worried about my writing score though but what the hell. I should be competitive enough for UNM.

Exactly. They are doing away with the writing section for a reason....
yup although i'm glad i won't be taking the new test!
Thanks guys!! The moment I saw my score, I was actually thinking of retaking cause I know I can do so much better on PS. I focused my restudying on this section but the timing and the nerves screwed me. I was hitting 10-11s on this section during my practice tests. But at the same time, I'm 100% satisfied with my BS and VR (especially) scores so I decided not to retake.
I'm gonna come up with list of schools tonight and tomorrow. Any suggestions?

29? I wouldnt worry guys i think you are good to go. I hit a 26 on the mcat. Not ideal but my great gpa will make up for it....or so says admissions over at SOM haha
Well the 28 is lowish for MD. But just grab an msar and go to work. Have you thought DO? Honestly with a 28 and a good gpa/EC's your probably gonna get into UNM....just sayin.
I have the best shot at UNM or DO
Some DO schools require a letter and some dont. i dont have a DO letter and am applying to 8. My MD schools besides UNM are strictly because of family influence : university of AZ, Kansas U and West Virginia U.
I have the best shot at UNM or DO. Since I can do everything an MD does as a DO im not worries not much if I get a DO acceptance instead.
Just found out that high-schooling in Albuquerque makes me in-state! Might be seein y'all next September!

I am not worried with letters though. I'm worried about not having any shadowing experience with a DO. I know my stats are good for DO schools but will this lack of shadowing experience hurt me?
Welcome 👍 !!!
I wonder where the rest of the ~200 or so IS applicants are haha
I did! They seem relatively straightforward. I was thinking about starting on them because I have a feeling at least #3 and #4 will be on this years app, if not all will be the same (like last year).
Here they are from last year if anyone is curious:
1. 1. At the UNM School of Medicine we are committed to building a dynamic, productive and positive learning environment in addition to promoting cross cultural and cross racial understanding among students of diverse talents, experiences, opinions and backgrounds. Share any unique or challenging factors in your background, such as the quality of your early educational environment, socioeconomic status, culture, race, ethnicity and life and work experiences. What would you as an individual bring to our medical community?
2. There are multiple paths that lead to medical school and many obstacles along the way. Please describe the unique path that has led you to medicine as well as any obstacles or adversity that you had to overcome in achieving this goal. How will this experience affect your career as a physician?
3. While providing healthcare as a physician is often a rewarding career, it is also a profession that entails addressing constant challenges. What do you see as the most significant issues the medical profession will face in the next 20 years, and what are some potential solutions for these problems?
4. Part of the goal of the UNM School of Medicine is to address the healthcare disparities that face New Mexico. Once you become a physician, how do you foresee yourself helping to address the healthcare challenges that affect communities in the State of New Mexico?

AMCAS verified today!!!!! Hopefully I will get a secondary soon, I will definitely post the topics here!
Nice! Still waiting here I submitted 6/19
Hopefully next week you will!![]()
Any word on secondaries guys? My app should be verified on wednesday
From what I know, only those under the WICHE states or have strong ties to NM and only a very very few of them.
What is there definition of strong ties? I'm from Kansas but my brother played tennis for UNM and even considered coaching there when he graduated. I have visited several times and absolutely love the campus and environment. If I discuss this in my secondaries do I have a shot? Or are they looking more for - (my dad works there, or grandpa gives lectures at med school, etc.)

You guys get the email about unm receiving your app? It says secondary essays will be given in mid august with interviews beginning in october.
Any one know of OOS with "strong ties" to NM? I got my masters from NMSU, but was living in El Pa so, TX, at the time. I'm in a WICHE state, but it has a med school.

Oh and BTW. Hopefulmd and rcheech, if you guys don't mind, could you just please edit your posts with my MCAT score and just delete the breakdown of it. Thanks! 😀
Done! Cant wait for UNM's secondary! I've already got 2 interview invites but man I want to go here.....
One more! Post number 53! Thanks! 😀
2 invites! Good for you! 👍 And it really sucks that no EDP applicants are posting on this thread. We could've double-checked the secondary prompts by now. I was really counting on them!![]()
