I'm heading down to look for apartments not this Fri. but next. Anybody know of places I should look into?

I'm not familiar with Mobile, but I too would be really interested in hearing from a current Med student at USA about areas they suggest living in, avoiding, etc.

I'm going to be living at Stone Ridge apartments off Somersby drive. I know a few M1s that live there and they say its great.

When you share with us once you get back about the better places/areas? Thanks

I've actually had a change of plans and will not be going this Friday. When I go though, I definitely will.

Also, thanks for the advice ingramw1202.

Well I called Peggy Terrell this morning and she said that all interview invites are out unless someone cancels...so I guess that's it for me lol maybe next year 🙁

Im looking for a place to live as well.. Has anyone made a facebook group for those of us that know were going to south next year?

For anyone wanting updates on current interviews, I interviewed 02/20/2013 and just received a hold card.

Hey guys, I'm a current M1 and was going to offer a little bit of advice. For those of you accepted, congratulations. I would definitely make a Facebook group for the people that are planning on attending. Our group was/has been helpful in getting in contact with other classmates, planning social events, finding roommates, etc. A good bit of people in our class live in Stone Ridge and Timber Ridge and I would suggest looking into both of these places. Campus Quarters and The Edge (new) are really close to campus but are going to be full of undergrads so I wouldn't advise it but that's a personal opinion. And don't live on campus. If y'all have any other questions I'll be glad to answer those and good luck to the people who haven't gotten accepted yet, there's still a lot of time in the application cycle left.

Does anyone know exactly when South's last round of interviews is/was? Much luck to everyone else who is still waiting to hear.

Thanks for volunteering some info. Could you shed some light on why living on campus is a bad idea?

Undergrads make to much noise. Also, when you're surrounded by a bunch of 18 year olds, they're gonna think you're Betty White or Adam Sandler.

So, does that mean that there isn't any separate Grad/Med school housing that is away from the undergrads?

Does anyone know if they are going to create a Facebook group for the class of 2017?

Any more updates out there?

I'm wondering the same thing. I really want this school the farther I go. On my interview day it was said that the bar was going to be lowered in March. I wonder when in march. Then in April the waitlist is formulated... and why exactly is the waitlist kept real small?

Hey everyone,
I've kept up with this forum over the last year and just wanted to join in on the conversation. I interviewed early decision and was put on hold unfortunately. Waiting to hear back from South Alabama and hoping its great news. From my understanding the bar will hopefully be lowered once again in March and the wait list will come out more than likely the first week of April. Its defiantly a hard and long wait, but I wish all of y'all the best luck. I am from Mobile and if I can answer any questions about the area I will be more than happy to try.

I was on hold/the wait list last year and was told the same things yall were. Just a heads up there might not be any final decisions till April. That's when they told us our status last year - the date kept getting pushed back more and more. Also, the list doesn't really move a lot until June or July.

interviewed March 6th, accepted March 8th. Mr. Scott made it sound like the threshold would be lowered two times in March then the waitlist released by early April.

Congratulations!

Congrats! That's a quick notification! Was the acceptance by snail mail?

Does anyone know if any acceptances/rejections/wait lists have been sent out lately?

Does anyone know how notifications will be sent? E-mail or regular mail??

From my sister having applied the previous years (I'm applying currently). I'm 99% certain that it will be regular mail.

I think everything after the interview is done by mail. I received my acceptance by mail.

I have a question about the new curriculum? How is it? Can you tell us what you like the most/least about it? Also, what is a typical week like?

Here is an excerpt from recent email of MS1 at USA...

I've been pretty busy- we just finished the 6 week cardiovascular module and had to take a couple of tests. I really like USA COM, the teachers are excellent, friendly, and professional. This is the first year that we are doing the new systems based curriculum and so far it has been going well. Its a transitional year for the COM but our class is getting lots of attention not only from the basic science instructors but also from several physicians. Systems based learning is an approach that many medical schools have been adopting in exchange for the discipline-based curriculum. For example in the systems based learning, instead of having three or four classes per semester like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pathology a student would sign up for two to three organ systems-based modules such as cardiovascular, pulmonary, and renal. The goal is to teach the fundamental sciences biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, neuroscience, etc. in context of the organ system for that module. For USA COM, clinical skills are being taught along side the science material, which I think is helpful for connecting pathology with clinical signs. You can read more about it on the USA COM website: <http://www.usahealthsystem.com/division-of-medical-education>.

Thanks! What about the grading system? I heard that it was pass/ fail but they also give ranks. However, on the MSAR, it said that letter grades are given until the 4th yr. What actually does the transcript show? P/F or grades?

Pass Fail in Years 1 and 2 - grades on clinical rotations. Not sure if they have honors for the didactic years or not.

I was also placed on the alternate list. Hopefully it all works out for us thouh. I'm curious to know though how many people were put on the wait list. May be good to later compile a list of all the people on the wait list and keep track how things seem to be going.

Got placed on the alternate list too. I really wish they would provide us with the list so we would have a better idea of where we stand.

I am new to the forum, but I also received an email about being placed on the alternate list yesterday! Can I take this as good news? Does anyone know what your chances are once you're on the wait list?
