Wait, did you hear back from them that you're in??! You're #8, right? The website says they're at #5...

If I'm interpreting this right, congrats!! 👍 🙂

I think she's just having a great time at Second Look.

Just my reaction to second look 🙂

Though much of the admissions staff were busy with second look and I was given the impression that the website still needs to be updated to the tune of a couple spots.

Was second look a whole weekend or just one day?
Anything interesting you didn't know before?

I don't think this is still accurate. That student handbook is from 2011, and I'm fairly certain since then they have gone to a straight Pass/Fail for the first 2 years.

I agree- during my interview they told us it was pass/fail both years. During your third and fourth year there is a fail/pass/high pass/ honors which is a combo of grade from clinical and a test on the subject. My understanding is you REALLY have to mess up to fail because most of the sites don't want to deal with the paperwork.

Glad you're liking it! I'd love to hear more about anything interesting you learned.

Hopefully we'll both hear back some time soon saying we've got a place (I'm #9) so we can figure out plans for next year (with campus placements and fin. aid info)!

There were some events Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday Morning/Afternoon. I don't know that I actually learned anything that was concretely new. I just know that a lot of schools put it on paper that they are interested in the underserved, and the clinic visits & physician panels on second look brought that to life in a way I hadn't seen yet. It was also just great to meet more of the students (current and incoming), who seem like a stellar group of people. On paper, UW was always my #1 in terms of fit and I feel more solid about that now.

I still feel conflicted about the cost differential between UW and my other options if I don't get one of the tuition fellowships (~$100k, maybe more like ~80k if I get a UW scholarship). It sounds like there will be alternates for those fellowships, but I imagine the people that get them are going to be the OOR folks least likely to withdraw. I have some people I respect saying I should just go where I think is right for me & the money will work itself out, and other people I respect saying that I would be really wise to consider the cost issue seriously. I'm a first gen college grad and I personally have no frame of reference for how $300k+ in debt affects a person's life and whether it is significantly different than $200k+.

I was just skimming through the student handbook (http://www.uwmedicine.org/Education...udents/policies-procedures/Pages/default.aspx), and while looking over the grading standards I noticed something interesting. The second year courses are H/HP/P/F, and it looks like a relatively large number of students honor the classes in second year (the hardest courses still had 17% of the class earn honors). This strikes me as slightly unusual. I was under the impression that it is ridiculously difficult to honor a course at any med school.

I'm not sure this is entirely accurate as administration told us we were not ranked until third and forth year, they emphasized this. I'm a current student

I just received my placement email. I will be going to the Pullman/Moscow site! I believe this was my second choice. Not what I expected as I kind of had housing set up in Seattle, but, I am excited at the prospect of being somewhere new and not having the distractions of Seattle.

Did they tell you where you were going the first year? Did you get called or was it an email?

I received emails from two faculty that I interviewed with saying that they had just heard I had been accepted and wanted to congratulate me. I just now received the official SOMAS acceptance offer email.

Now I have to choose tentative or firm...:scared:...

Submitted a tentative acceptance. UW please show me some love with those tuition fellowships so I can stop freaking out and just commit to loving you forever.

Also I am OOR so I should be in Seattle. I was never given an opportunity to do a site ranking.

As of about two minutes ago I have!

Congrats! 👍 🙂 😀

I came home to an email from them also but it was a reminder that I haven't confirmed that I accept my spot on the waitlist 😱. I've sent them several emails in response to the waitlist email (updates, etc.) but I guess none of them were an explicit confirmation... Just sent them a hasty "I accept, I accept, I accept!" (slightly more formally worded 🙂). I'm #9 so I'm wondering if I might have gotten The Email (TM) today too if I hadn't mucked this up 🙁... *fingers crossed* I hear something tomorrow.

i am the #1 alternate for alaska WWAMI. i have resorted to checking the alternate status list every day. WA/OOR and wyoming already have had considerable movement. i know it's still early but i am getting really antsy.

From looking at this, 5 people were accepted off the alternate list for Alaska. I would be happy to be number 1 on that list. I would also feel pretty nervous too. The uncertainty of this whole process is unsettling.

Best of luck.

End of April/beginning of May is the big movement time.

We should make a table too, so future applicants can see what happened for us so they know what to expect. I have started a table. Just fill it in when you have a chance.

Think we're done seeing list movement until next week?

Nope! I got the call this morning! 😀 :soexcited: 🙂 :woot: :hardy: :biglove:

I was offered a place on TRUST also. So excited! I'm headed to Spokane if I accept the TRUST spot (99% certain I will, but I asked for a day to mull it over). Otherwise, not sure what my site placement would be.

Thanks BABSstudent and rachelkj!

I was #9. I just checked the website and it still says #8 accepted, but I've updated the spreadsheet anyway.

The 2015 class google doc only had 3 people accepted off the WA/OOR alternate list by today. We are on #9 already! That's good news for everyone on the alternate list.

Hey, when they sent you the offer, did they update you status page? Or does it just say "Congrats, you're in!"?

I'm glad this waitlist is moving along. I don't feel like my number is a death sentence anymore.

Thanks 2013E, scornev02, and Whack Get Out! And my fingers are crossed for both 2013E and Whack Get Out that the list moves quickly and far!

On a different note, does anyone know if the Spokane campus offers BLS/CPR certification during orientation or whether we need to get this solo? Since orientation is only one day, I'm guessing they don't offer it... Mine's recently expired so I guess I'm going to need to fit that in some time this summer.

#10 just received and responded to their UW offer....WOOHOOOO!!!!!!
