Le numbers: 3.33 GPA and 28R
Le Extracurriculars: 200+ hours clinical experience/shadowing in the US, India, Italy, and Russia. 3 years research experience with 3 publications. 1.5 years teaching/TAing experience.

As you can see my numbers are nothing stellar so I am SO thankful that UW actually took the time to read through my application (unlike many schools who reject me within 2 weeks, obviously just filtering me out by my stats).

Congrats to you too! Have they given you a date?

First official medical school rejection.

Sorry to hear that. I creeped on your previous posts, though and you've got awesome stats. I'm sure that you'll have lots of acceptances this cycle. Were you out-of-region for UW? Also, if you don't mind me asking, when were you complete?

Ha thanks for the vote of confidence, we'll see what happens! Yes, I was out of region, so once I read a little more about UW's region policy, I didn't feel too bad about the rejection. I was complete 9/21.

Nope. I'm an Idaho resident, so I don't think I'll get a concrete date until December.

I would not feel bad being turned away from UWSOM as an OOR applicant. I have seen ridiculously qualified applicants given a rejection from UW despite their awesome grades and extracurriculars. Best of luck in the rest of the cycle!

I know that this has most likely been answered before but for those of you who do have an interview date, how long did it take between the invite and receiving the date?

I got an II w/o a date on 10/09.

I got into UW with similar stats 🙂 so don't lose hope...good luck to you

I know this has been briefly addressed, but could a current student/someone who has interviewed talk more about the curriculum? In other words, what does a typical day look like? How many classes at a time? How are tests organized (all at once, random, computerized or no, day off before or no, etc)? Do you feel like you have enough time to study, or are you sitting in class all the time? Thanks!

Does anyone know when the first EXCOM meeting will convene for the first time?

Sad that my first post after being a long-time lurker has to be bad news, but I think I'm the first one in this category?

Rejected pre-interview as in-state applicant 10/15 (yup, it's taken a couple days to recover my pride enough to post this), complete 9/28 (at least it was quick)

cGPA: 3.78, sGPA: (haven't calculated, est. close to that?); 33N.

I know, I know, it's not a numbers game, and there's a lot more to my application, but when the MSAR says that 86.5% of in-state applicants got interviews last year, it still hurts, esp since I went to UW for undergrad.

But best of luck to everyone that got good news! There are some excellent faculty members and it's likely that at least some of my talented classmates will join you there!

I interviewed 10/15 and they said we'd get a status update in 3-4 weeks. However, I'm pretty sure that's what they said to the interviewees in the beginning of the month as well so who knows, maybe sooner

Sorry to hear that...you have strong numbers and you seem pretty cool. I am surprised they didn't offer you an interview invite. I have heard in the past that 60% of IS applicants get invites. That came from a past ex comm member, but it varies from state to state.

With those numbers you are a competitive applicant so stay optimistic and if you are set on UWSOM, show persistence and try again! It's a great school and worth the wait.

Stats? Presecondary or post? Did you interview? Give us more details!

Class of 2017!!!!!

Sent from my iPod using SDN Mobile app. Please excuse the typos.
BABS - congrats! When did you interview/get accepted? Was it via email or phone?

denied - not surprised

🙁 Sorry. I've been holding out hope for an OOR secondary request since early September...I'm thinking that my rejection is coming soon. When were you complete?

According to his MDApps page, his acceptance was for Creighton, not UWSOM, though I'm sure he'll get in to UWSOM soon enough.

Does anyone know when the first EXCOM meeting will convene for the first time?

According to last year's thread, it seems they meet on Fridays? Last year, acceptances came out very close to Halloween, like the 26th, 27th. Hopefully we won't have to wait that long......

Sorry, I did not expect two signatures to come up when I was using my ipod. I will have to fix that so it doesn't happen again. I got into Creighton University on the 16th.

I have not heard anything from UWSOM. They said they would take three weeks, and this is ending week 2? Or is it? I am so confused with days! Around October 30th is the three weeks.

Fixed?

Edit: Seems like it is fixed. Sorry for confusing all of you. And psychkub, I wish that was the case. I started off the interview great, and then slowly went downhill. I didn't end on anything terrible, but hopefully the first impression leaves a lasting one.

Interviewing tomorrow, so I might see some of you there. I'm kind of dreading having to answer difficult interview questions, but super excited nonetheless! 😀

Just be yourself and be prepared to talk everything through with the interviewers. If you interview later in the day, you can talk to the students about the interview and get pointers before you do it.

Thanks for the advice! I'm not too worried about it, but it could become a little painful. Either way, hopefully we have the option of coming here next fall!

INTERVIEW INVITE! November 1st! Finally an interview I can drive to! :soexcited:

(OOS currently but born in Spokane, Complete on 9/19)

For those of you who have received an interview invite but no established date: Has your secondary paged updated? I got the email that I can expect an interview but my secondary page says the application is still under review for an interview...

You really can't go wrong with any of the choices for lunch.

My page still says the same under review statement as well. Oh well. More time to get my ish together and prepare!

Question for those of you getting invites, what time of the day have you been receiving the email?

Oh man, I feel your pain. Don't lose hope though; the same thing happened to me (in-state, high stats, rejected for an interview) but I did get an interview with Wash U (and hopefully more to come).

Every site does it differently -- Several of the sites start out first year with a large 5-6 week block of Anatomy and just anatomy, other sites will stagger the class schedule and pick up anatomy mid-way through the semester.

Typical days however, I think its to be expected anywhere from 4-6 hours of class each day. At my site attendance is optional for classes and is nice if you're a good independent learner -- just remember that you are held accountable for everything covered.

Tests at my site have a staggered organization, sometimes you'll have one exam in the middle of the week, but for mid-term we had block examination - no class all week and only exams and there was one every day except wednesday that week. Tests are written, not computerized (this may be different at the Seattle site I'm not sure).

Overall the studying hasn't been all too bad especially if you've had a good Cell Bio, Molecular Bio, and Biochemistry courses in undergrad. Histology and Anatomy will be new for most and will take up the most time studying but overall the Pass/Fail system makes the pressure much less although you will find once you're in medical school everyone still strives for the high marks -- nonetheless the pass/fail does make it much less stressful.

Thanks for taking the time to write that...it's very helpful! 👍

Did the campus tour or much of the interview day in general involve going outside much? I am wondering if I should get myself a decent-looking umbrella. I usually deal with the NW by wearing goretex for 6+ months/year, but I don't think it really goes well with the suit 🙂

The tour was almost exclusively inside. We were outside only once, to walk through a small courtyard. Congrats on the interview too, btw! 🙂

complete 9/17

date of interview received 10/19 for 11/20
super excited!

completed: 9/13
II without date: 10/15
Interview date received today (10/22) for 11/1!

I just missed a call from the Seattle VA hospital, where my EXCOM member works at but no message was left. I was cleaning my room...LOL.

Hopefully this is good news! I don't know why else the Seattle VA would call me. =)

Kind of funny thing just happened. I was reading your post about getting a call when all of a sudden a 206 area code number called me up. My heart raced and I answered and it was a solicitor. I was a bit annoyed, to say the least. Hahaha.

Priceless

Wow, congratulations.
Interviewed before you and still haven't heard back. I am nervous now.

Congrats! I too interviewed the day before you and have heard nothing. Trying not to think much of it, but still.

I'm happy for you!
