For those of you that finished the health check list thing that they sent out... How long does it take to complete? I'm gonna be abroad until 6/9, and I got an extension until 6/30.

But I'm gonna be at an event from 6/18 to 6/23. Do I have enough time to finish it within that time frame?

They require you to get two PPDs, one week apart, so unfortunately I don't think 5 days is enough time...

I feel your pain though. They're pretty strict, they're making me get one of my titers while I'm abroad.

You can ask your doctor for the blood test for TB, Quantiferon, instead of the PPD, which is accepted by the OSHA office. However, I would still get your blood drawn as soon as possible. You won't know until your results what kind of immunities you're missing.

Update bi-weekly? With what? Haha
I've interpreted it as this: if one is wait-listed, they should be writing to the admissions office regularly, whether it be with updates, essays, rec letter, et cetera. ie be proactive and show them that you really want to attend. As an anecdote, a girl from last year's application thread got off the regular wait-list before some subset of HPWLers by being extremely proactive.

Just got a rejection email. Was wait listed in january
Sorry to hear that.... Were you on the HPWL? Or the regular WL, if you don't mind my asking? And perhaps the class is already full by now if rejections are coming this early.

Just wondering, have people received information about housing, paying tuition, etc.? Also, have people who were accepted in May and applied for financial aid received award letters yet?

I got my financial package though I wouldn't go as far as to call it an 'award' 🙂

Just gave up my spot. It was really, really hard to make that decision and I'm still not 100% OK with it but I hope it's for the best. There's still hope guys! This process has just been so crazy and unpredictable, so you never know!

still no housing info 🙁
I happened to call them yesterday about an unrelated question, and they said we should be getting housing application this week. I know they've told us this a few weeks ago, but maybe this time it's for real 🙂

Just got the housing and pre matriculation course info today in the mail. Can anyone (current student maybe) talk about the options on campus for food? Is there a meal plan, or do we have to cook our own meals?

So for food, there's tons of options.

First off - no such thing as a meal plan. However, the school has a few in-school options to buy food. There is the cafeteria which is open from 11:30-2 daily for lunch (and it has a great selection, and I think is pretty decent). Next, there is a cafe open from I think like 8-4, which sells all sorts of packages foods (sushi, sandwiches, soups, wraps, drinks, etc) Lastly, there is a student run cafe open at night from 5-10:30 which has some ok stuff (I mainly go when studying late in library and want a quick bite)

For other food options, there are a ton of places right next to Einstein where ppl go for food (Thai, Italian, sushi, etc) also, tons of places people order in from.

Personally, I cook a ton of food at home. It's really convenient since everyone lives across the street from school. Also, it tends to be cheaper and much healthier. All in all though, there's many options for people of all types 🙂

Hi Bloodyhell,

I think this has been asked already, but do you know if the class is full? And if there is any hope for wait listers at this point?

Will our housing assignment be for an apartment or a specific room in the apartment?

Hey,

Sorry but I think that's something only the admissions department can really know for sure..and they wouldn't be so forthcoming with such info :/ sorry! But def keep hopes up - there are always people who switch schools prior to start date and some who get acceptances up to the very last week! Good luck!

Do the people with the bigger bedrooms pay more of the rent?

does anyone use the pool at the gym there?

I swim 4-5 times a week and it's a pretty nice pool. I got spoiled in undergrad because my large state school had 2 separate olympic sized swimming pools on campus, but the one in the rec center is very serviceable. They generally keep it at a good temperature and there's a jacuzzi right next to it that ranges from tepid to pretty hot depending on the day. The whole pool area was re-tiled last december so the bottom of the pool is nice and clean. It's 25 yards long and there are 5 lanes. More often than not you'll be able to show up and get a lane to yourself but it can get busy later at night. The lane lines are set up wide enough that it's easy to share a lane though. There have been rare occasions where every lane had 2 people in it, but I think I maybe saw that once or twice all year. I really liked going during our lecture lunch break because I often had the pool to myself, but most people like to actually eat lunch during the lunch break. As an added bonus, every Wednesday night there is a swim class for beginners if you want to learn a new stroke or just some tips on your technique.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the small downsides -- it's closed on Saturdays/Jewish Holidays and the hours are a little more restricted than the normal rec center. They insist on having a lifeguard there so every now and then somebody misses a shift and they have to keep it closed. Other than that though, swimming at Einstein is a pleasure.

I just got an email asking me if I am still interested in Einstein. I am but right now, without einstein's financial aid package, I can't decide between Einstein vs my other school which will be my first choice. So I have two questions:

1). If I say I am still interested in coming to Einstein, does that "bind" me into going to Einstein? I want to be able to weigh my options after getting my fin aid package from Einstein

2). Does the fin aid package come with my acceptance? I turned in all my tax stuff and also the service and research apps months ago

I know from my experience it's a 'no' to your question 2. It took close to 5 weeks for me to get my package even though all my paperwork was submitted ( not to mention several phone calls to the financial aid office).

In response to your first question, I think that once you respond to that email that einstein is your top choice, you're basically unofficially binding yourself. I'm sure it would look very low to go somewhere else after telling them that they are your top choice, but I'm sure people have done it in the past....

To be fair, the email doesn't ask if Einstein is your top choice. It just states where else you're holding an acceptance and asks if that school is your first choice or if you are still interested in Einstein.

"If this is your first choice, we congratulate you, and ask that you let us know that you are no longer interested in maintaining your wait list place at Einstein. If you remain interested in Einstein, would you kindly respond to this email by [deadline]."

I've been following this thread for a few months and it seems like they send out a wave of emails asking current interest a day or two before sending another wave of invites.

From what I understand... This email lists the other schools that you are holding acceptances at. Here's my question: has anyone been accepted off the waitlist that was not currently holding an acceptance at another school? Did they still send you an email before inviting you?

I currently have no acceptances, but am waitlisted at a few schools, but I'm pretty low on all of the lists except for Einstein; I'm on the high priority list at Einstein. This morning around 10 AM I received a certiphi request. I know that some schools request background checks for waitlist applicants, but I found it odd because I've been all of those lists for a few months now.

I'm hoping that since I don't have any other acceptances, Einstein assumed I'd be interested in an invite so they didn't bother sending me a current interest email. And since I hadn't been accepted anywhere, they needed to run a certiphi.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Hey bloodyhell,

Is everyone guaranteed to be placed in a dorm? If I get accepted off the wait list in the summer, do I still get to live in the dorms?

Just wondering if those who have received the "are you still interested" email previously indicated that Einstein is their first choice..?

I did say that I was interested, but nothing about it about being my first/top choice. At this point, however, if it is your top choice, I'd definitely let the admissions committee / dean Kerrigan know!

That's awesome--thanks so much! I have very low expectations for a pool, so that sounds perfect.

Speaking of the pool.. at which point will we be able to use the gym? I have already moved to the area and wouldn't mind going.

BUMP

Also, if we are not taking the biochem course, is there no way for us to move into our apartments a little earlier to settle in?

1) It is true that each apartment has a total cost and that's just split among the occupants. For example, when I moved in I had 2 roommates and each of us paid 429 dollars a month. One of those two roommates moved out to live with his girlfriend so myself and the other roommate then had to pay the difference, though we did get a grace period month to find another roommate. We've been paying 645 since because we couldn't find a replacement. a Now, you may be saying to yourself that the policy is dumb because if the mover is just going elsewhere in einstein housing it seems like a money grab because they're not losing any money, they're charging for empty rooms that people aren't using. I'd agree. Housing is well aware that students disagree with the policy and our student reps have been working on it.

2) You will not get a studio as a first year unless you're married or you're an MSTP. There also aren't any 1 BR's where a student lives alone. All the "2 BR" apartments are technically converted 1 BR's without a living room, and all the "3 BR" apartments are converted 2 BR apartments with a small or no living room. I believe you can request 1 roommate instead of 2 but I cant remember for sure.

3) If you're taking the biochem course they do let you move in early, I didn't talk to anyone who took it last year that was made to find their own housing arrangements.

Yep! No worries about that. Everyone that wants a spot in housing gets one - I've never heard of any situation otherwise!

Is there a way to request your housing preference in the application? I want to request the penthouse but don't know how!!

The only way to get a penthouse is to have it bequeathed to you by a current resident when they move out.

Did anyone else get accepted off the wait list today after responding yes to the "are you interested email"?

So... what would it mean if you replied "Yes" to that email a while ago, and also sent several more emails/letters of interest, but still haven't been accepted yet 🙂

Accepted this morning off of the HPWL! I was wait listed in January.

For those who've been accepted off the waitlist, do you remember roughly how many days it took for you to hear from financial aid?
