2013-2014 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is a great idea, especially for Emory because, as others have mentioned, it feels like you are being "watched" for most of the day, so staying the night at a student's gives you the opportunity to ask questions without the worry of being judged.

Great to hear. I sent my information and am waiting for the coordinator to get back to me for next week's interview so hopefully I'll have a student host match soon!

Being "watched" during the Emory interview day has come up a couple of times. However, that's kind of the case at all schools. Basically anyone can report negative behavior to the AdComs of a school. Did you guys feel that something out of the ordinary was going on? Just curious because a few have chimed in about that "being watched" feeling.

For me it was the fact that the tour guide was also an interviewer. All of my other tours were with people not involved in the interview/acceptance process, and almost all of the others even explicitly said that they do not report back to the adcom. Emory stood out for that reason.

....but yeah it could also be a huge conspiracy, and I am flattered if that is the case. Med Schools really want to know you. haha

Is February 24th the next date of acceptances? I've lost track after so many empty mailboxes. Time to see if my update letter worked some magic!

On the sheet they gave us it says February 25 is the date that the letters are sent out.

Does anyone know when Emory will start sending out notifications about the Woodruff Fellowships and that scholarship weekend?

I'm guessing that won't happen until they fill their initial class after the last acceptance date, March 10.

For some reason I recall somebody mentioning that invites for the finalists would go out sometime during the end of February.

I could be wrong though.

Anyone else get a new fin aid email saying things were received?

Good luck errbody. Hope to see some of you in Atlanta!

...but only some of you.

Anyone know what happens if you don't get accepted within a certain round? Do they reject, waitlist, or accept you the round immediately after interview? Or possibly postpone decision until later? I know this is a question no one may actually know. But thoughts?

You'll be considered for all the future rounds (March 10th I think is the last one). I had a friend that interviewed early enough to be accepted in the first round, but just got accepted in this past one (beginning of Feb). If you don't get accepted in March, then you'll get the waitlist letter, or possibly a rejection if Emory does that.

If you were offered an interview, then you will be considered for admission every time the adcom meets (Today and March 10th). Even if you were among the first group to interview, you could still be accepted on March 10th. If you are chosen as an alternate or rejected, you will not be notified until March 31st.

It's a different sort of "watched" than at other schools at which I've interviewed. Most schools will give you a part of the day, not just a tour, to be only with your fellow interviewees or even alone - that doesn't happen at Emory, where interviewees will have at least one admissions rep in the room all day long except for the tour, which is led by a student who also interviewed you. Which is totally fine with me, because everyone was super nice and animated and not intimidating at all, but also very tiring to not get much of a chance to just breathe outside of bathroom breaks haha.

This is when I just stared into the mirror saying, "C'mon man, you've got this. You're a Lion! Roar damnit ROAR!"

Then I was fine for the rest of the day.

how did you not have Katy Perry stuck in your head the rest of the day?? haha juust kidding.

But seriously, every time I see a notification about Emory now, my first thought is "omg did someone get mail!?"

When did you guys finish on interview day? Also, which MARTA stop closest to Emory did you go to in order get to the airport / how long did that take?

I did get mail!!! AT&T is offering U-verse for only $15/month, so who cares about Emory?

That being said, the area around Emory (Decatur) is going to be getting Google Fiber .... I'm a former local so a lot of my friends are excited about that!

The closest on the north-south line is Lindbergh Station, that connects to Emory via the #6 bus. It really depends on traffic for the #6 -- it can take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes from Emory to Lindbergh. From there, the trains run regularly and any south-bound train will take you all the way to Airport without traffic.

If you are flying into Atlanta, buy a Breeze card at the MARTA stop at the airport and load as many fares on it as you think you'll need.

My day finished before 4:30pm. I had interviews, then tour. I stayed in ATL that night so I wouldn't know how long it took to get to the airport that night.

By the way - they say to be there by 7:30am since things start at 8 -- I was at the medical school doors at 7:30am and was THE LAST PERSON TO ARRIVE. It felt so awkward being the last one even though I was somewhat on time especially since we sat around just shooting the breeze for 30 minutes before things actually started

Around 4-4:30pm. You could take the bus from Emory to Lindbergh station (20-30 mins). Then MARTA all the way south to the airport (15-20 mins).

Yeah I was also there at around 7:30 am and was the last to arrive and be seated. I didn't feel bad though, I walked in right as they called my name so it was perfect timing.

Plus, I'm too cool to be awkward. 😎

It was more like One Direction. I had "Through the Dark" stuck on repeat in my head.

I'm sure that's relevant to this application process somehow.

Did you indicate interest in an MPH on your application? If so, your interview day may be a little longer. I did not finish until 5pm due to an extra meeting in the Public Health School scheduled for the end of my interview day.

I just want to let the team know that I didn't get anything in the mail today from emory.

haha. i'm trying to get some discussion started so that we can bump over to page 16 of this thread. i'm sick of scrolling done the entire 15th page on my phone every 5 minutes.

Well, Interview season is over at Emory. Wish I had gotten a chance to interview 🙁

Did they really need to put the word "interview" in their email title?! I got the notification on my phone so the crucial "... season has closed" was left out when I first saw it. Why you gotta rub salt in the wound Emory.......

So I'm assuming this only went out to applicants that did not interview

Haha same thing happened to me

+1... torture

Also got the boot today, but I was considering withdrawing anyway, so I can't say I'm that disappointed.
