2013-2014 New York University (NYU) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
FYI, I e-mailed admissions asking about my application. Their response:

"Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately, at this time, all interview invitations have gone out. Our last day of interviews was December 19th, and we expect to send out all final decisions by the end of January. Thank you again for your interest, and please let us know if you have any further questions."

Wow, that really shows a lack of regard for applicants to withhold a decision even a month after it's been made..

Well that's pretty straightforward.

I asked and there might or might not be more acceptances that go out before mid/late January, depending on the admissions committee. 😛

Congrats to those accepted, and good luck to those still waiting (including me).

I have a question regarding the additional information tab of the application. I didn't upload anything initially. Should I upload something to this now, or should I contact them directly? I have recently just graduated this December and also have just had a paper recently published. Will they read this information or will they be notified of an update? I wrote a letter of intent/update that I was planning on either uploading or sending to them directly.

Interviews ended on dec. 19th. However, there are many who did not get asked for an interview yet, but were never rejected. Does this school silently reject applicants?

@FutureGlobalDoc According to this post, pre-interview rejections could be released with post-interview decisions, so by the end of January, but very well might be before that.

Rejected (pre-interview)… 3.7/33, OOS. Congrats to those who got accepted and good luck to those still waiting!

pre-interview rejection, 3.6-3.8/31-34, OOS

pre-interview rejection today...complete 9/21

I think they sent out all pre-interview rejections today because I applied late and I got one too. Not really a surprise since interview seasons is over for them, this was just a formality.

rejected 🙁 complete mid july. looks like nyc life is not in my near future.

Anyone else only get accepted via snail mail? Just returned to my apartment from the holidays to a nice surprise but thought it was really weird that I never received an email. I'm also MSTP if thy makes a difference.

+1
My status updated about 4 days later.

Oh, and congrats

Same. I thought for sure it was a rejection given the lack of an email

I am in the same boat and very nervous. I didn't feel too hot about how my MMI went...
I interviewed 11/12 and i havent heard either. i feel even worse. sigh. my mmi felt pretty ambiguous as well. nothing in my mail today.

They sent out a portion of acceptances on 12/20/13 and sent out pre-interview rejections yesterday. Most acceptances still haven't been given out yet

That's pretty... anticlimatic for them to announce that they're sending out final decisions and then have them be pre-interview rejections, given that interviews are over -.- But I guess it's nice of them to let people know

I guess my question is whether the next batch really is going to be larger. From what it looked like, the first batch was pretty big given how many people reported acceptances here...

Rejected the other day... Complete late July

Dear NYULMC,

I got 99 problems but your insanely high 10th %tile GPA ain't one.

Moving from NYC to SoBE, FL. Oh, NYU, we could have been so great together. Hurricanes > Violets.

See you in 4 years for the match ;-)

Sincerely,

Rejected.

I hope you're right (one of my best friends didn't hear back so I've got my fingers crossed for him) but I remember looking at last year's thread a while ago and the first big round around 12/19. If I recall correctly, though, everyone else who was accepted in January onward had interviewed after those initial acceptances were given out back on the 19th. But it was also a bit different because of Sandy which extended the interview season last year.

Ditto. You'd think places would send the fat packets but guess not. Do you know if we have to do anything to hold our acceptance (deposit or anything) until we decide? Some schools require that but I didn't see anything except if we were definitely matriculating.

There's a $100 refundable deposit that you submit through the online portal. It had to be submitted within one week or you forfeit your spot.

ACCEPTED. I didn't get my letter (mailed 1/3/2014) but my admission page says I'm in. The only thing is, I'm not sure which program. I applied MSTP but the admission offer looks like it's for MD-only applicants.

@Reckoner (or any other MSTPers), does your status page indicate MSTP acceptance?

Nope, nothing about MSTP on the application portal. The snail mail had letters from the MSTP and MD program. Either way, congrats! 👍

What's the benefit to NYU of blatantly lying and saying a larger group of acceptances will be sent out?

Have any of the accepted MD students heard back about merit based scholarships? I have a friend who got a scholarship offer from Vandy, but it came weeks after getting his acceptance (and was a complete surprise). I'm just wondering if anyone knows how NYU notifies people

Ahh I just saw what you were saying on their twitter page and I stand corrected. Hope you hear good news in the coming weeks!!

Rejected pre-interview a few days ago, 3.8/34. Congrats to all the acceptances!

Interviewed in late November and haven't heard

I interviewed 11/15ish. I don't remember seeing anyone on this thread get a decision who interviewed after that, so that might be the last week of interviewees who were considered in the first round of acceptances.

I interviewed 11/18 and I'm really hoping you're right! Been really upset that I wasn't in the first-round of acceptees. Congrats on the acceptance though - super jealous! =]
