+1. It could also be that NYU is waiting for their interview season to be completely over because someone could cancel their interview the day and then NYU would need to make it up with someone right away.

When is NYU's last interview date?

as far as i know, yes... i just got an invite today (dec 9) for tomorrow (dec 10) LMFAO....yeah there is no way given the current lab situation/work load that i'd be able to make it... apparently if there are other cancellations they'll let me know...

So essentially, it's done, yes?

what! Why don't you just drop everything and go!? An interview is so much more important!!!! ( i know a little extreme but still!! I'd do practically anything to make an interview 9 but only probably because ive had a grand total of 3))

Are Canadian disadvantaged in any way since this is a private school?

I can't even describe the emotions...I got an invite yesterday for today... If I came I'd be burning bridges with my PI as we had a strict NIH deadline... Now our deadline got pushed back and I didn't interview... Not sure what to even feel...

We all make choices. Some good, some bad.

Should have called in "sick".

Bummer, now I know why we had an empty slot in our interview group... win some, lose some I guess...

I still haven't received II or rejection since beginning of September, don't understand why ?? Have they sent out pre interview rejection yet?

No, they haven't sent them yet. They send them all at once later in the interview season.

i'll echo what other people have said, people cancel their interviews last minute. imagine how bad it would be if they rejected you then sent you an II. this happened to me actually, i got a call on monday asking to come on tuesday, obv i wasn't going to make it. so i was sitting on an invite and no spot, but then a spot on the 19th just opened up so i took it. i imagine there may be even more cancellations and stuff.

Why can't they send out the pre interview rejections earlier instead of waiting until Jan.

No idea. Schools like to string people along for some reason. And then when you call and ask admissions offices whether interview invites are going out, they act like they won't tell you the truth... I guess it's because they don't like dealing with the flurry of people inquiring why they were rejected.

i actually think there will be a few invites going out sometime this week and maybe early next week. there's a few spots opening up here and there, i imagine acceptances from other schools, people getting conflicting invites from other schools, and other various reasons.

Does NYU make decisions after all interviews have been completed? I know that historically NYU has given decisions around mid-December... any idea about whether we might anticipate decisions coming out then? They say January on their website, but I think someone said that they usually say January but decisions come earlier?

Lol me! Yeah, I think in previous years, they always say that all decisions will be sent by February 1st/March 1st and if anyone called or used their IM feature, they gave the same answer (that all decisions would be out by then) and even if people pressed harder for if acceptances were coming out, the admissions office said the same thing. But historically, they've sent acceptances before February 1st/March 1st, and all waitlists and rejections go out on February 1st and March 1st (everyone accepted will hear before that). Guess we'll need to wait and see what they're doing this year!

My interview is right before their interview season ends and since I'm flying in I'm kinda worried about what's gonna happen if my flight gets cancelled...it's not like they have any more days...

Post-interview letter of interest ... Good idea or leave it alone? This is my top choice

I was going to do that but everyone suggested I wait in case i got waitlisted or something as it is one of my top choices too.

Agreed. Decisions are probably coming out soon if they're following last year's patterns (though I wouldn't bet on it since schools aren't following their usual patterns at all this year), but I would wait until after you hear your decision.

I mean, can it hurt? Or does it actually look desperate?

Plus I just recently interviewed

I think gyngyn has said before that it looks desperate. Plus it seems most of the top schools have some kind of post-interview ranking system and according to LizzyM, sending in 5000 letters of interests or update letters don't change your rank post-interview. One disclaimer, though, is that this is from their perspective at their schools, so NYU could be different. You could call or use their IM feature on their website and ask if they are receptive to them.

Didn't know what LizzyM was but mine is 77 and I think the mmi went well (emphasis on "think"), but I wanted them to know that I would most likely matriculate. I heard schools like to accept students that are likely to actually attend.

Lol I meant LizzyM (the adcom member at a top 20 school who posts on SDN), not the lizzyM score. Gyngyn is an adcom member at one of the California schools. It's dependent on school, so you can always call to ask (or IM them) to make sure if NYU likes them or not.

Oh oops haha. I'm guessing there's a correlation between her and the score? And yeah I'll probably contact them somehow. Appreciate the help

Lol LizzyM is the person who invented the LizzyM score.

ahhh. I just wish these decisions would come out already. I totally did not expect like NYU as much as I did until I interviewed and then really loved it. I was stalking last years threads and some came out in december but we haven't heard of any yet....I hope they dont make us wait till january.

Same here. I really fell in love with NYU on interview day, and I wasn't expecting to love NYU as much as I did (of course having Asian parents, when I told them this, they tried to dissuade me from loving it so much lol). NYU was probably my most favorite school out of all the schools I interviewed at.

I tried using the chat thing on their website, and the secretary people don't know when decisions are coming out either. They said it's also contingent on when the admissions committee feels like sending out decisions. So then I asked whether NYU would be non-rolling this year, and they said they don't know either (based on what's happening, it looks like it's going to be non-rolling...).

seriously! I LOVED the students and stuff on interview day but my parents are asian as well and everyone is like, why would you go there? It's not ranked that high etc etc. I just loved the atmosphere though. people were chill but driven, happy, just a good atmosphere to be in for 4 years vs other schools I interviewed at people seemed superficially social but competitive and really uptight underneath. I m having a hard time giving a tangible reason for why i liked nyu so much but it's more of a gut thing.

Me too! I had a really strong gut feeling towards NYU. I just liked everything about it from Tisch to Bellevue to the housing to the facilities. I couldn't really find anything I didn't like about the place.

When I emailed the school thank you's, the office of admissions said that they expect decisions to come out in January -.-

The MMI was actually really fun for me. As for the school, I didn't get a real sense of what their mission was or anything. However, I absolutely love the idea of Bellevue hospital, ability to pay doesn't mean you can't see a doctor. First interview though, let's see what else there is.

Yup! There's a new "Offer Admission" tab to the left of the "Interview" tab.
Could you let us know when your interview was?

edit: and congrats!! 🙂

Edit #2:
My Status page says "Interview Your interview is scheduled on: 10/9/2013." despite having attended the interview. Is anyone else without a decision seeing the same thing?
