ahahahahhaha. I am dying right now ! I'm sure that was Miss.Walk. I called today too and said that 6 people were telling her the same thing: they're all passionate about Howard.

Also, I noticed you were already accepted somewhere else. I don't think you should worry about Howard then !

I called couple of months ago. Before getting my acceptances... I am def not a huge fan of Howard after the way that lady talked to me ...

I never said I was passionate about Howard hahahaha

No, when I called today, she mentioned the "passionate part" of the other applicants who called today as well. I think it matters of the person mood too. It's understandable that they have a ton of applicants to go through and sound like they're under-staffed. But I really can't be the judge of that, since I never been there.

Have also seen in past threads people mentioning that their admissions office might be under-staffed...maybe that might explain why they rarely answer the phone...btw, I have started to think that Howard chooses to ignore calls with some specific area codes on purpose....hahaha

hahah, I believe it !! Ms.walk didn't know where was the town I lived in. Lol

Yeah, it definitely seems like there are more seats available. Our group was told we should hear back in about 3 weeks. Was it the same for your group?

Yes 3 weeks is about right. We were told the admissions committee meet on April.

Did you call?
I did and she basically asked me if I retook my MCAT which is a 24 (9/6/9). Said my verbal was on the low side and that was kind of a bummer for me and an indication things aren't looking good from here on out

No, she basically said my MCAT and gpa are too high for them, "looks like Howard is your back up"
thats why I didnt get an invitation, she was rude!
do you mind me asking your stats? or range? maybe thats why I was ignored for months

damn ! so she didn't even mention when will you hear about your application? I don't know if they keep foreign students (including Canadians) at the end of the interview process... :/

I'm surprised, I thought the average for Howard was 24. I know a couple of people with even lower verbal score that got accepted. Maybe playing"English is not my first language" card helped..

She told me the average was a 27. And while I was on the phone she stressed that my verbal was on the low side and I came back saying that my GPA is a 3.82 and my scGPA is a 3.78 and that English wasn't my first language. I am Canadian and she also told me that they only accept 5 or 6 international out of 120 applicants. Im sure the class is full of them now so really I was like why prolong my suffering

Hi all! I will be applying this summer for admission for fall 2016 and was wondering if some of y'all can let me know my chances at Howard! I'm from a disadvantaged area in NYC, but I am not a URM (although I am a minority, just not one that is neither considered over represented (like south-east asian or something) or underrepresented, and for this reason a lot of people have been saying I don't have a chance even though my personal goals and experiences are in line with the mission of Howard University, IMO at least). Anyways, my stats aren't the best to say the least (3.0 sGPA, 3.0 overall, 32 MCAT) but I have an upward trend from a top 20 liberal arts college, excellent research, and good/okay volunteer experience. Let me know what y'all think! 🙂

Wow good mcat. Regardless what anyone says on here, we can never be certain. I do think you have a good shot especially if you turn in your application early, although I must say your science GPA is on the low side. Try taking some more advanced level science classes. Good luck.

I am very certain that I know people with lower mcat and gpa that have been accepted. How do you know all the spots for internationals have been filled??There's still hope as long as there are still interview spots available. I hope you get one. Good luck

Hopefully the admissions office will get some more staff in the near future. It's definitely not right to lash out at applicants. But congrats on your other acceptances!

To all others applying, I think the ability to show you're truly committed to serving underserved and/or disadvantaged populations may matter a little more than pure stats. If you can show that and your stats are decent, I think you have a shot.

Hey guys. For those who have interviewed and were ultimately accepted...when the admissions committee reviewed your application, did they notify you that they reviewed your application and offer you acceptance at that moment? Or, was this a separate process?

After the interview, a few weeks later you get an email that says your application is out of committee and a decision was made, but not to call yet because the decision has to be signed by the dean first.
Then about a week later, you get an email saying the decision letter has been signed. From what I understand if it's good news, they tell you that you can call to find out the outcome, and if it's bad news, it doesn't say that. But don't quote me on that. I'm not sure.
Then a week later you get the official outcome in the mail

I was first notified that the review of my app was complete. Then a few weeks later I was accepted.

My experience was different from the posters above. I received an email saying my application has been reviewed and a decision has been made but the letter has not been signed by the dean. A couple hours later, I received an email version of the unsigned dean's acceptance letter. I received the actual signed hard copy of that letter a couple weeks later.

They sent you your acceptance letter by email? That's interesting

I think it may have been because of the holidays? I received the email on 12/19 and the actual letter wasn't mailed out until 01/05. But I didn't mind... I much preferred that way over having to wait anxiously for another week or so before finding out. Lol.

Has anyone that interviewed in Feb or early March been accepted? I know on the HUCM website they said after March 15, acceptances will be mailed every two weeks until the class is full. Trying to see if they are behind schedule.

Any II's lately?? I'm not sure how I should feel at this point... Haven't been rejected (I thought rejections we're going out 3/15) but also haven't gotten an interview either. I feel like I'm just counting the days until rejection at this point of the cycle!

When was your secondary received by Howard?

+1

I Submitted my secondary in September :/. I am an international student.

Thanks! For those of you who have interviewed here, how was it? Any suggestions would be great appreciated.

@Professor-X The interview is straightforward and a little longer than most institutions. It's also one-on-one with someone from admissions or a faculty member. The questions vary based on your interviewer. They really want to see that you are committed to their mission and that you want to attend Howard.

Thanks @Dr.Mac! I got an email on March 17 indicating that I had been selected for an interview. The latest interview date I saw was April 7. Hope that helps. Good luck everyone!

Interview day is pretty laid back. Ms Walk is nicer than we think she is... other people who have interviewed at Howard can second that I think. The student body, their enthusiasm, their love for the school, their support towards each other is beyond belief. We came across a lot in the hallway during the tour , they seemed even more excited to have us than we were to come to Howard. At least that's how it seemed... haha
I interviewed with a faculty member; He asked me one or two questions on my application (on the classes I took in College). The rest were on questions on my personal life that I had put on my application. So everything is fair game.
I hope this helps... Good luck!

Hello everyone!

I am a first year here at HUCM! I have loved every second of it. If you haven't heard back yet please be patient as you know Howard receives a huge number of applicants, and the admissions office is still giving out interviews. Keep the faith! For those of you who have been accepted a Facebook group will be made soon once Freshmen Liaisons are elected and the office gives us a list of approved names. Here you will be able to talk to each other directly, ask questions, and look for housing. Once that fb group is made I will post the link in this group so that you can send us a notification for acceptance. Good luck everyone!
