2015-2016 Medical University of South Carolina Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It was extremely relaxed. Mostly just a back and forth banter with some motivation for medicine stuff in between. This might vary depending on who you get.
I juts got my outside interview scheduled. Is it open file, closed file, etc. Does the physician know anything about you ahead of time? thanks!

Had my outsider interview today. I don't think he had much information other than my name.

finally my first II of the season...anyone attending 11/20?

Mine was actually closed file but I'm not sure they are all like that. Good luck!

Do you mind sharing a little bit about your experience with interviewing here at MUSC? thanks.

very laid back interview day, they really just want to get to know you, the students involved are super welcoming and cool, for the interviews themselves be prepared a couple basic questions like why you want to be a doctor, but overall be relaxed and ready to converse and shine

Tomorrow is the big day. They will be discussing this months interviewees. Hopefully they'll send decision out too.

Does anyone know when they meet to send out IIs?

Not sure about that. We only know they are meeting to discuss the interviews because they told us when they were there.

Pseudo Logic they told me on interview day
Us too. I was just hoping they were feeling generous and would cut our wait a few hours short.

Gotcha, thanks. At my interview they said they would be meeting today and gave the assumption that notification would be sent shortly after but never specified the day. Thanks for the info.

For those of you that have been accepted and plan on attending MUSC, we have created a Facebook page. Search MUSC College of Medicine - Class of 2020 and request to join the group.

Congrats on your acceptance! 🙂 I tried to find the Facebook group, but it did not pop up when I searched for it. Are you sure the group is visible to the public?

At the interview day on Friday (11/20) they said the committee will have another meeting this Tue (11/24) and more acceptances will go out

Interviewed a couple of weeks ago. Supposed to hear today but haven't yet. Has anyone gotten a phone call or an email yet today?

They are calling, I didn't hear til just now so they might haven't just finished meeting or something 🙂 good luck!!

Just got an email from Ms. Wanda Taylor...accepted!

on hold email :/ that's 3 on holds for me so far for my IS schools in SC. Man this process is brutal for below average stats folks. Congrats to everyone accepted!

I'm having trouble finding the group too!

Interviewed today. I absolutely loved the school, the interviews were the most relaxed I've had, and the admissions office was on point with everything. I'm really going to have a difficult time deciding where to go if I get in here. Oh btw, the ADCOM meets on the 15th and decisions will be sent out on the 16th if anyone's waiting for some news.

Interview invite - 1/29 - reapplicant alternate list last year. Good luck everyone!

Where do the majority of med students live?.... downtown, Mt Pleasant, James Island, North Charleston?

does anybody have an idea of when "on hold" people will hear back? all they said was "after the new year," got put on hold on Oct 28

From the students that I know, a majority live downtown and others in James Island and Mount Pleasant. I work downtown and would advise anyone to make sure that if you choose to live downtown, you lease in a non-flood zone. Unfortunately, MUSC is one of the worst flooding areas but it is possible to find a place nearby that doesn’t flood (at high tide, the flooding gets so deep that it could ruin your car). I personally prefer Mount Pleasant. I live right over the bridge and it takes me 5-10 minutes to get to downtown. The deeper you get into Mount Pleasant, the worse traffic gets. Look into Runaway Bay Apartments - I know several students that live there and love it. It is very close to the beach, restaurants, bars, parks, stores, etc. The perk of living in Mount Pleasant is that it doesn’t flood, it is cheaper than downtown, it is safe, and you are right near Shem Creek, Sullivans Island, and IOP. The only negative of living anywhere outside of downtown is attempting to find parking in the city (most MS-1's park at a lot that requires a shuttle to get to campus, which adds to commute time).

James Island is nice as well. It is not as built up as Mount Pleasant but I know a few students that live at Riverland Woods/The Islands and they seem to love it. James Island is a little cheaper and is close to Folly Beach and downtown. Although, James Island traffic can get pretty awful due to there only being one main, congested road. Another place to look is the Avondale area in West Ashley. This is a very young/fun area and is two miles from MUSC. Concord West of the Ashley is the only complex in Avondale available for lease. I hope that this helps and if you have any questions, feel free to DM me.

any idea when the next day of acceptances is?

OOS, Rejected today (no interview). My app was complete late in the cycle - Halloween. Good luck to everyone.

Rejection email and I didn't even complete the secondary. Stupidest thing, why would they go ahead and review my file without my secondary. This school might be full of themselves.

Rejection e-mail today! I'm OOS though so I knew it was a reach. Good luck everyone!

Last year, I would say 95% of the people on hold heard back in Mid-March when the final interviews were complete. The other 5% were accepted throughout the cycle. Just a guess but the majority found out in March when they decided the alternate list.
