2015-2016 Yale University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
According to the waitlist support group thread, someone was added to the FB group that posted they were from the waitlist... Hopefully the rest of us will get an update on what tier we are in soon!

For those of you who were admitted, how do you get into the facebook group? I have a feeling I'm unaware because I missed second look weekend.

Send a request to "Yale school of medicine class of 2020." Someone will let you in.

Normally there's a link in the admissions email or some other form of communication from the Admissions Office, too.

Quiet here, but people have been getting in. I've heard of multiple concrete ones already, one of whom declined. They are via email with instructions to call in. Slowly we should all hear about tiers. As I've said elsewhere, it ain't a waitlist for nothin'

I got it this week 🙂
Got a call from Mr. Silverman on my way to work in the morning.

Crazy week...matriculated a second time on Monday and accepted off WL on Friday! Will need a think and wait on financial aid
Congratulations avgn and best of luck on making the tough decision!!

Decision made after financial aid package came today. Man Ivies are rich...or maybe I'm just poor lolol

Gonna be a Yalie!! To the rest of you, Yale students say there's a ton of movement going into June. The class that graduated last year had 50% of the class come off the waitlist

Congrats! @avgn

Did anyone still on the waitlist not get the tier 2 email? The email states tier 3 is the largest, but no one has posted in years past about having been placed in it.

If someone got through today, can you please post what Silverman said? Thanks so much!

They have 104 students and the class is full, but the process is not over as of yet. They have 5 students who have yet to complete their deferment paperwork who are for sure going to defer, but the process is lengthy. Once they complete the process (which he said they are all working to do quickly), their seats will open up and the waitlist will move. Group 1 is done with, and Group 2 is up.

Here's to the neverending wait!

When you say the class is full does that mean that no other spots will open besides the 5 who are deffering? Also, has anyone from tier 2 been accepted yet, or are they only now going into tier 2?

Usually "class filled" means that to their knowledge, no one is leaving yet. Exceptions would be the deferrals and unforeseen withdrawals as others get off of waitlists elsewhere and choose to ditch.

Except for the fact that Mr. Silverman said it's "full" including the 5 people who are deferring and the waitlist will move within the next two weeks once their seats open up.

As stated above, and he just said that Group 2 is where they are pulling from when they begin again. He said nothing about if they have or have not yet, sorry. Hope everyone gets through to talk to him! Good luck!

Did anyone who made it through to talk to him get a sense of how realistic their individual chances are? Or how realistic being in tier 2 is? Or tier 3? I'm not sure if I'll be able to call tomorrow, but I'll try.

Yeah I know, I can read, no thanks to you. I was speaking about the rest of the class since the guy I quoted already knew about the 5 deferring. It seems he can read as well.

You didn't answer their question about spots opening up. Good talk, bruh.

I don't know how you guys do it.. I'm looking at your guys' MDApps and it is incredible. Like did you always knew what you were doing? Do you guys have parents and family that are doctors and were able to guide you guys? Whatever it is I hope you guys get into your dream school! Good luck.

Can you read? I said "exceptions would be the deferrals." i.e., the class is full/there are no more spots as far as we know besides the deferrals.

Enjoy the WL bruh

I was just saying that your response isn't clear. Especially since he was asking about spots opening up due to the "exceptions [being] the deferrals." I can read, but you obviously have poor communication skills. I don't understand why you always have to be a tool all of the time. Must be the reason why it's easy to identify exactly who you are IRL. 😉

Just gonna re-post this question because I have a feeling it may be overlooked: Did anyone who made it through to talk to him get a sense of how realistic their individual chances are? Or how realistic being in tier 2 is? Or tier 3? I'm not sure if I'll be able to call tomorrow, but I'll try.

Any and all information is very welcome. Thank you so much!

6-10 deferrals expected, which is the standard amount. Deadline to defer is June 30th so movement should happen by then. They are done with tier 1 and moving into tier 2. They were pretty vague about my specific chances, but extremely gracious. It is so kind of then to hold these calling in hours.

Thanks for the info! impossible to get through D:

Thank you! Also, for what it's worth, a friend of mine got through today and was told he has something like a "good" chance, but that was as specific as it got. I believe he is in group 2.

Someone posted a map of New Haven once with nice areas to live marked... but I can't find it now. Does anyone have that lying around?

For those of you that have gotten off the waitlist, what time of day/day of the week did you receive your call?

Silverman doesn't randomly call you. He sends an email saying he wants to discuss the status of your application and you can call him back or arrange a time for him to call. My email was in the afternoon but many in the fb group said it was in the morning, at noon, basically all over the place.

Is there anyone in Group 3? It looks like most people are in group 2... weird considering they said that group 3 is the largest.

Currently sitting in group 2. Please email me. Please.

Group 3 has probably signed leases that commit them to other schools by now, it's not looking bright for them

I truly don't think Mr. Silverman/the admissions office would have said group 3 is the largest without that being the case. I trust that everyone is being honest throughout this process. I know in threads from a few years ago, one or two people did self-identify as group 3. It's important to remember that SDN is a very small subset of applicants and is also probably fairly self-selecting both in membership and in who decides to post. Individuals who are in group 3 and are active on SDN may just not have posted that particular piece of information for various reasons.

As avgn suggested, given that group 2 was only reached in the last week or two, it's probably not looking awesome for group 3 this year.
