2016-2017 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congratulations to all of the acceptees! I hope you take the time to celebrate. You have a spot at a fantastic school.

If you did not receive an acceptance this round, don't fret too much. You truly will be reevaluated at subsequent meetings. There are plenty of students who were admitted in later rounds. It's not over.

If you haven't already been invited for an interview by this point in the cycle, is there any chance you will be? Not sure how long Emory's interview season actually is.

Absolutely. A majority of the Emory medical students I know interviewed in December and January 🙂

Edit: it seems Emory is a bit on the slower side to reviewing applications.

Potentially silly question, but they send us a letter regardless of the decision, right? Like even if I have been rejected/waitlisted, I will find out soon? I interviewed in September and I haven't gotten anything (and my portal hasn't changed) and I'm wondering if that means anything.

Pretty sure they don't tell us until march because they re-review applications

No hope 🙁

Noooo I'm sorry for making you worry with my post! They made it clear that they would revisit the applications, and the good thing about interviewing early is that your application has so many chances to get reviewed. I am rooting for you!!

I interviewed in September, but didn't get accepted on the first round of acceptances in October. This is far and above my top med school and I was really really disappointed. Is it a good or bad idea to write a letter of intention to them saying they are my top choice and I would intend to matriculate should I be accepted? LizzyM 75-76 so numbers wise I am a good match. I'm sad to know they passed on me the first time around :/

Absolutely, let them know that they're your first choice! (Try to be as concise as possible though). I remember on interview day that one of the deans said they welcome letters of intent, but not thank you letters to interviewers. Wishing you the best!!

Does anyone know where I should send a letter of interest to? Do I post it in the "updates" section on the portal, or do I email it to the Office of Admissions?

Anyone know when the November decision date is? I lost the paper they gave out at the interview day which had all the dates they would mail acceptances

Am I putting myself at a significant disadvantage if I chose an interview date of early January instead of mid-December?

Hi there, from what I gathered during my Interview Day, the hear back day for accepted students in December is December 19th. The next one is January 30th. That being said, I believe you need to be interviewing on December 12th or prior to be considered for the December 19th acceptance day. With this system of monthly hear back days until March, I truly don't think there is a disadvantage of waiting for the January date! I've heard from several people that once you have interviewed, you continue to be re-evaluated throughout the process. Also, many current Emory med students were interviewed in January and beyond. Hope that helps!

anyone get an updated tab on their portal saying "admissions offer?"

Are you saying they've already updated? I thought they don't change them until the afternoon (unless they've already updated them this morning)

That's a relief (well, potentially lol). No mine hasn't!

Does anyone know if they all update at once?

I feel like they'd have it coded to all update at once. If someone gets an update that didn't have one this morning I guess we'd know for sure.

Does anyone know more about how their post-interview evaluation process works? Do they accept everyone that they want to accept on each admissions date? Or do they have a specific number of offers that they can extend each time, so you may not be in the top of your batch (according to your score or whatever) but you may be in the top of a later batch? I guess I'm skeptical that they reevaluate every applicant at every meeting and am bummed after being passed over!

does anybody know roughly how many people they accept on each acceptance date?

FYI to future humans. Emory doesn't care about ITA emails.

I haven't been following the thread but has Emory sent out rejections yet?

We parked at Emory Midtown to go to something in the city today.. the whole time I was on the hospital's campus I was wondering if they're just taking forever to review my app or if they're just planning to reject me. Kind of sad not to hear from them since I grew up visiting their campus and multiple family members have been treated here so I'm very fond of them. So I hope it's just that they're taking forever haha

II invite today!! Super surprised because I thought I was out of the running for this school since applicants who were complete after me got invites already. Since I applied MD/MPH the interview days available were all 4 fridays of January.

Congratulations!

When were you complete?
