2017-2018 University of Nevada - Reno

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeahhh I was a reapplicant and did everything and more than they told me to to improve my application, but I guess it was still not enough. Obviously not sure yet if I'm waitlisted or rejected, but it still stings just as much. Tired of being strung along
Sorry. I feel for you. Same here. I’m from Reno, reapplicant, did what they told me, and still didn’t get in. Feel like there’s not much more we can do when we listened to their advice and still didn’t get it.

Mama told me something important. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it. Adcoms can be here and it's not worth losing my other acceptances to vent frustration about this school. I'll pass.
Touching, really. Obviously you were going to say something quite negative if you had to restrain yourself, which I'm sure adcoms are bright enough to infer. Both current and future applicants will check this thread to learn more about this school and the experiences of others, not what your "mama" told you. So if you don't have anything tangible or beneficial to share, write about your emotions in your diary or vent directly to your "mama."

I, for one, think you should take PhilzCoffeeAddict's mama's advice.

Lets not start a fight. I'll take the fall for this one. I shouldn't have posted first. I'm sorry for causing any problems, I was just a bit upset I guess. Sorry sorry sorry. Congrats to everyone that got in. UNR is a wonderful school, best of luck to the class of 2022!

Just got an alternate letter. How many alternate spots are there?

Is there a facebook page for accepted students?

So I've talked to the moderator of the UNR Med Facebook page and they said we should just go ahead and make the facebook page ourselves and make sure it's a closed group. I think I might go ahead and do it! So PM me later if you're having trouble finding it!

Great idea! Please let us know when it is up and running!

Hey all! I'm a current first year student at UNR med! Congrats to all who have been accepted! To those who were rejected, I know the feeling. I am a reapplicant and last year I finally got off the waitlist in May. I totally understand the frustration. It's a long process and there were times during this process that made me want to give up medicine completely because I thought I wasn't good enough. You have to keep going though and continue to be strong. Medicine is about resilience and this is just one way they test you to see if you're going to make it through some of the hardest years of your life.
Anyways, if you have any questions about UNR med please message me! Good luck everyone!

Where will you be attending instead?
I still haven't made a firm decision yet, I'm waiting on one of the other schools to provide financial information and I have a second look day coming up for another that I'm hoping will give me a nudge in one direction or the other.

Would you have been OOS or IS for UNR?

Statement from University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine Dean Thomas L. Schwenk, M.D. in response to KLAS-TV report

Here is the reply to the story on UNR med. Handled very well and was along the lines of what I figured was the case. Media loves to be over dramatic. Haha

For being slow with getting 2ndary applications out and expecting us to submit within a very small time frame (5 business days if I remember correctly?)… They sure were quick to respond to being called out.

Well I'd say it's safe to say these are different departments. And also the reason, at least from what I've heard, that Reno takes so long with secondaries is because of their 2 week MedFit Program. They really like to make sure they are focusing their attention on the new class before moving on to the next. I know waiting sucks but it is just a part of their process.

Just got the call and I'm accepted from the waitlist! So make sure to pay attention to your phones for those on the waitlist. Good luck everyone!

Was it from a 775 number? I keep getting calls from weird numbers and haven’t been answering.

I'M ACCEPTED! Just got in off the waitlist!! CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE. If you have followed my posts at all, you know that I am a non-traditional re-applicant with a <3.0 uGPA. For the last five years, I've worked my ass off for this. Dreams really do come true! I can't wait to meet all of you wonderful people in August!
Congrats!

Join the Facebook page! Congrats!

Just curious, are those who came off the waitlist out of state?

Congrats to all waitlisters who got a call! I was wondering if any of you would share which tier you were in (if you checked into that)? Also, are you all planning on matriculating to UNR or are you going elsewhere?

I was top third and will be attending for sure 🙂

I was top third. Just made the decision to drop my other acceptance and go here

For any current students, I was wondering if someone could clue me into how housing works for 1st year. Do many of the MS1s choose the on campus grad housing? When do people usually figure out their housing by? Is there an area around the school that most of the med students live? Sorry for all the questions, but as an OOS without many ties to Reno I feel like I'm a bit in the dark lol.
