2017-2018 University of South Alabama

Ignore this post if any of this is has been said. The following comes from the Director and Assistant to the Director at USACOM within the last week:

1. All acceptances for the cycle have been sent (~80 folks). This is, of course, due to AAMC requirement of med schools that as many acceptances as there are seats should be sent by March 15. Mr. Scott expects more than half of these to be null.

2. Any remaining applicants sans rejection have been placed on the alternate list (which, according to AAMC MSAR, is not a terrible place to be; usually 3/4 get accepted from USACOM's A.L.).

3. After April 30, the A.L. will become a source from which to accept students. (I assume the ranking system of the alternate list follows the same 10 point formula as we all heard about in our interview; though, possibly with more leeway since the applicant pool is by now greatly diminished allowing more time for holistic reviewing (this is purely speculative--let me know what you all think)).

4. Approximately 50 more acceptances will be sent (probably after the April 30 deposit deadline, when the bulk of withdrawals happen).

I hope this is useful information. Best of luck to all.

Hmmm I have heard nothing from this school yet.. Does anybody know when and how they will send out the alternate list/ rejection letter?

Guys, what is going on? I feel like this school has accepted nearly no one and yet they still have not even sent out their alternate list. Their website says the AL will be out April 15...what are they doing?

I remember at my interview Mr. Scott saying that they were not coming out with the AL until the end of the month. I don’t know that for sure of course. I believe 80 people have been accepted. I was on March 15th

so if we had a hold card and have not heard anything, we are either rejected or on AL?

So did they never drop the threshold at all? Does anyone know anyone who got accepted after receiving a hold card?

I’m so glad to see movement happening! I gave up my other acceptances in favor of South Alabama, so it’s nice to see the class coming together.

Escambia County, FL is (I'm almost positive) considered in-state at South, at least for undergrad. I'd assume it's the same for the medical school. So, you're golden!

To add confusion to everything, there is an Escambia County, Florida and an Escambia County, Alabama. And they're right next to each other.
