Anyone else checking their portal on a daily basis? Some people were saying that the interview tab could also show up before the phone call for an II ....... I feel a little neurotic :nailbiting: hahah

There is a portal besides the website for the secondary application ?

Yep, interviewed yesterday and accepted today. Turnaround was super quick. I dont know how often interview days are, but I think they meet to review every two weeks or so. The FB group is only up to 20 people so theres still plenty of spots im sure.

Do you mean the meet every two weeks to review apps or are they reviewing interviewed applicants?

Hello, I have a question and hopefully, someone has some insight. I submitted my AACOMAS application to this school and was verified on 8/21/18. My issue is that I have yet to receive a supplemental application. I emailed the school a month ago and they informed me that they screen the primaries and it could take a few months. Has anyone yet to receive a secondary from this school yet? Does this seem abnormal and is this a silent rejection in a sense?

Thanks! Sorry for such a slow reply. Im not sure of the specifics, I was just told that they were reviewing people that had interviewed on Oct 11th, and if our day wasn't reviewed then, it would be reviewed on Oct 23rd I think.

Have you recieved the "application complete" email?

I emailed the admissions department and they informed me that they received all of my documentation and will be reviewing whether or not they will send me a secondary. I didn't receive an automated message that it was marked complete though.

I believe they scan applications and if your stats are below their minimum it takes longer for them to decide whether to send out a secondary or not. I just do not know what the minimum is though. All I know is that GPA weighs more than MCAT.

Gotcha, thanks for the reply.

@jessasaurus I see you are a current student at VCOM. Do you mind telling us what a usual day looks like as an OMS-I? How long are the lectures and how much study time do you have? Is Spartanburg a safe town to live in?

So the lectures can take place between 8a-5p, however days of strictly lecture don't go past 3pm typically. Usually we are done for the day by 2pm. Some days there are no lectures after lunch. The lectures are 50 minutes each (10 min breaks in between, although some professors may go over). The only days that you really would have to be here until 5 are if you are in the second lab section (one starts at 1pm, one starts at 3pm). I think there is a reasonable amount of study time as long as you budget your time well. I certainly could have done more studying if I would have needed to, but of course this would be relative to your individual needs. As others have reported, attendance is not always taken so you can definitely get away with missing more than you technically are supposed to.

As far as Spartanburg goes, I feel very safe where I am at. There are certainly a few areas that you would want to avoid, but there are also plenty of safe rental opportunities available. There is also sufficient amounts of outside entertainment (restaurants, breweries, parks, collegiate activities) as well, along with plenty of family friendly events/things to do. I wouldn't consider the safety of Spartanburg any more concerning than moving to any other moderately-sized city in the South.
I also feel like Spartanburg is generally a pet friendly place, with lots of parks and dog-friendly activities. There is a great local vet that is reasonable to begin with, and gives VCOM students a discount, that I have had a great experience with so far. This won't matter to all, but if you are a crazy dog person like me you will appreciate.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for this thorough response! 🙂 Hoping for some love from VCOM!!

Current VCOM students, how much did you guys usually have to spend on books the first two years? I looked over the required booklist on VCOM's website and was wondering if you guys actually buy all of these or if you have them available to use at the school. Thanks

All required books are available in the library and on the online library. Plus there are PDF version floating around.

Agree ^^ I would suggest actually purchasing First Aid and Pathoma though.

Anyone know how scholarship/money offers work at VCOM if they do offer any? After you commit do they reach out to some students and offer money?

Anyone know if it is possible for them to extend the deadline due for your deposit when you are accepted? I highly doubt that I will be able to collect $1500 by December.

I'm thinking the admissions committee will tell you something like: "You knew you had to pay a deposit when you applied. You should have set aside the money beforehand." I doubt they'll let you, but it wouldn't hurt to ask them. Good luck.

I was complete around the same time. Hoping for some love soon too!! What are available dates right now? I wonder if they are already interviewing for the waitlist

I doubt they're interviewing for waitlist at this time. I interviewed right after the new year and got an acceptance, no waitlist. They seem to be slower about filling up their seats.
