you're blessed my friend. my school starts in less than 2 months and still did not look into any leases. Kinda digging my head in the sand atm lol
lol, you're blessed to have a school to be going too, while some of us are in limbo whether to keep our hopes up for an WL acceptance or prep a re-app for next cycle.

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to look over my letter of intent. I would appreciate some feedback before i send it in 🙂

@gonnif @gyngyn @DrFortiusNatando

I noticed that there are some schools that start taking people off the waitlist before they’ve completed decisions for all interviewed applicants. For example, someone can be interviewed in August, waitlisted in September, and accepted in November despite the fact that several people haven’t interviewed yet.

Is there any particular insight as to why that is? I would assume that a school that does this has a much higher acceptance rate for earlier interveiw cohorts.

It could also be that the school has the interveiw schedule filled by November. So they can see if there are deficiencies In diversity early on and try to correct those early on. Like, for example, if they see that there aren’t any Hispanic females from the Northeast on the interveiw schedule, they decide to take some off the waitlist.

This makes no sense to me.

This whole process is CRAZZYYY! Never been through something so nerve-racking in my life. This is my life. The only thing I want to do with my life and I wish we ALL knew EXACTLY what to do/say for our dream schools to accept us. This process has definitely kept me on my knees praying!

I am grateful for this thread though. There have definitely been some helpful posts throughout this cycle! Hang in there folks 🙂

Have I not explained my question clearly?

Or did you mean to say that the phenomenon of early acceptances off the waitlist doesn’t make sense to you?
You make perfect sense. The behavior you describe makes none!

I think this might make sense if a school has a ranked waitlist. A school with a ranked waitlist probably assigns scores to applications during the pre-II review and committee voting process, and uses the final score to stratify applications numerically in order to build the waitlist.

So if a school sees that it is mathematically impossible for any of the remaining candidates to have a final score that is higher than person #20 on the waitlist; then the school can start immediately pulling the first 20 people as seats start to get empty.

Of course, this would mean that everyone who is left to get interviewed must end up getting waitlisted. But then again, there are some schools that waitlist every single applicant past a certain point in the interview season.

There are very few schools with a ranked waitlist.
You are a much more analytical thinker than anyone (in admissions) I know at such schools.
Therefore, I submit that this technique still makes no sense whatsoever.

Aww thank you for the compliment 🙂

Although, thinking too analytically is kind of the reason why all of my ex-girlfriends broke up with me soooooo I’m gonna have to work on that 😳

ok, started countdown to May 1st, 9 am (thinking this is when schools' admissions offices open:

17 days, 21 hours, 31 mins, and 09 sec.... 8 sec...

Well, my situation just got a whole lot more complicated. Tuition of the school I’m currently accepted to is due before traffic day lol

Don’t forget you also must make a decision on ur offers by that date xD

Hey guys, long time lurker and recent account-creator/new poster. I've been sitting on 3 WLs without any As for several months at this point and waiting has been absolute torture. :nailbiting: but this thread has been pretty nice, even if it's just to see a lot of us are in the same boat. Good luck to all of us and hopefully we'll hear some good news in the next month or two!

Where are you WL'ed if you don't mind?

Tonight I’m gonna be sipping on some Lannister wine as I stream game of thrones, in hopes of catching some Jon snow courage so I can survive the next two weeks
i dont watch game of thrones, but my boyfriend is a HUGE fan, so he is already cuddled up with Lily (my dog) on the bed, with cookies and ginger beer. I dont think i have EVER seen him so excited... now, thinking about it, i dont think he's ever paid as much attention to me as he is paying to the screen right now 🙂)) hahahahah

You actually need to decide by April 30, which is why movement traditionally starts on that date.

what happens in terms of tuition and school payments at the DO school Im currently accepted to if I were to be accepted to my top choice MD after the semester started?

Likely that’s up to your DO school, I would ask for their refund policy before payment just in case

Same situation here. When does your DO school begin?

Too bad I can't select "commit to enroll" while I'm on the waitlist and have no acceptances lol.
Lol i wish!!! AAMC sent me the "choose your school" email. Sadly, I have no schools to choose from. I have zero acceptances. Waitlisted at 2 schools (including a dream school) and waiting to hear back from NYU long island (middle of may).

Haha that AAMC email really got my hopes up for a second🙄

When is tuition due? I believe as long as classes haven’t started you’re almost guaranteed refund. WL moves way before classes start for you
it says 10 days before the start of classes. so that would be around July 22. My only worry is that the WL school told me I could be removed from the waitlist into August.

waitlists exist up until august for almost every school. But the majority of movement happens very early on in May. my school requires tuition in 2 weeks but refunds it within the first quarter of the semester. I bet there will be similar policy for you. regardless, you have a lot of gap time which is good
