Hey ya'll, just joining this thread! So my only possible A for which I am waitlisted has had quite a bit of list movement throughout april. While it is my only possible A I am really excited about this particular school! There are only a few more SDN's on the thread that still say they are WL. Apparently though the school invited more people to interviews today...... what does this mean?! Heard of any other schools doing this?

You were right the first time. The 4/30 suggestion is not enforced by AAMC. It’s up to schools to require it if they wish.

I was in a similar situation. I just told myself that I’m not God’s gift to medicine and that the school I turn down A) will be just fine without me, and B) has this happen every single year along with every other med school.
So when do you know if schools offers any scholarships? After you fill out internal scholarship application?
Go with your gut. At the end of the day it's your wellbeing, career and future. The schools you reject will move on the moment you CTE at the other.

What was your situation like and how did you ultimately decide which school to go with?
I'm slowly getting over the "guilt" part of it. I think SDN users will be more mad at me for going against my LOI than the actual school itself.
Now I'm comparing unconditional scholarship at a pass/fail school to conditional scholarship at a letter-grading school. Both school's have their pros and cons regarding curriculum, EC opportunities, location, and population. But finances and my mental health are both major things that matter to me, so for now I will likely use that as the deciding factor.
I think it’s about AAMC trying not to get sued.

I sent a letter of intent to a school, then got accepted. About two months later, some things came up and changed, which also changed my priorities. So I went with my other school.
SDN might blast me for going against my LOI, but when things change after you write it, that makes things more complicated, and ultimately you have to go with what’s best for you and your family (if you have one).
I just sent a very nice letter explaining how I really appreciate the opportunity but things came up blah blah blah. They were very nice about it. It happens every year.
I understand where you’re coming from. Not everything is black and white. I wrote and LOI and I do intend to follow through on it but there are some circumstances which would prevent that. Like if I had already moved to the new city for school A and my husband had accepted a job when they decide to call me. In that case I’m already committed to another school and it would be hard to pull out. So yeah it’s not ideal but some circumstances prevent it. If my husband accepts a job in another city then I’m bound to go to school in thay city and I can’t change that so [emoji1383]♀️
Exactly. When I wrote it, I was 100% committed. But things change, and it was a couple of major things that if they had been part of it before, I wouldn’t have written the letter. Schools understand, and it’s a little narcissistic to think the school is going to be completely devastated lol. They have plenty of qualified applicants to take our spots.

Just curious what others are doing with regard to financial aid. If I’m waitlisted at one school and currently accepted to another, do I accept the financial aid offer at the school where I am currently committed? How does transferring loans work if I were then to be accepted at the school at which I am currently waitlisted? Getting anxious in that I don’t want to screw myself over in case I don’t get off the waitlist. Thanks friends!
Confused and disjointed.
The reports we have gotten so far do very little to tell us when or whether to look at the waitlist.
About a third of accepted students haven't used the thing at all!
won't they be required to use CTE by virtually all schools? And won't schools see whether waitlisted applicants have used CTE?
Eventually. Some schools don’t require it until 21 days prior to matriculation.
Who knows? How would CTE change waitlist management?

Any school you are on the WL will see you CTE.
Some schools don’t require it at all.
So if there are no rule enforcements by AAMC then what’s to stop someone from holding multiple acceptances up until matriculation
Schools are the only thing stopping them. Based on if/when they require CTE.
Schools can rescind your acceptance if you don’t withdraw from all but one by their deadline (which is April 30 for most schools).
It’s not linked exclusively to CTE. Schools can require you to be down to a single acceptance by April 30 and not require you to select CTE until later.
Yes, but how would they know without using CTE?
I mean I guess technically they wouldn’t. But that doesn’t mean it’s okay to violate their rules.

True, but I don’t think many schools stipulated the 4/30 date. Not a single one of my schools did to my knowledge. Just like most schools aren’t requiring PTE. Seems the majority are doing CTE though.
And therefore...?
I don't see any evidence that this is happening.

My two acceptances did (well one required you to be down to two by April 30, but same thing).
Does CTE require you to withdraw from all WLs? I didn’t think it did.

I can't see much...and there hasn't apparently been much movement.

Well I wish I could help but I did release my others on April 30th lol. But I keep seeing people say that we didn’t actually need to release them so I’m getting a little frustrated that this process hasn’t been made more clear

I would imagine schools could potentially rescind acceptances if you hold more than one past the April 30th deadline. Better safe than sorry
i still dont understand how there is no verification/check process by schools that all other acceptances have actually been dropped
