Ok yeah I didnt get a chance to read through past posts. Seems like its just general chaos everywhere.
Personally this is all pretty surprising as I had anticipated that top, well-established schools would have a fair idea of their yield based on precedence and general confidence that students will attend if accepted. However, it appears that even top 10 schools are not immune to the chaos.

the adcom gyngyn shares my thoughts on the matter. that movement is going to be slower than past years until commit to enroll deadlines set by the individual schools

i dont think schools have accepted as many as they usually do at this point

well, id expect them to have a hard time simply based on the fact that their students are likely to have multiple options and within those options, perhaps even a school that gave them a full ride that was much lower ranked and was a completely unpredictable choice for them

I still don’t understand the difference between this year and earlier years. Could it be that the multiple acceptance report (MAR) being removed made all this difference? So technically this year schools can see if a student has another acceptance ONLY when the student has made a PTE selection against them?

I was wondering this as well. Schools didn’t know last year who was fully committed or who was staying on waitlists either so it could just be a waiting game until the end.

yes but the difference was that they were able to reliably predict who would come based on the other schools they were accepted to. a low tier that sees that one of their admitted students who has not made a committment yet and is also accepted to a T20 can reliably assume they will not be getting that student. students with no other acceptances but that school are risk free and they can count them as a likely to attend.

its still guess work but they were much less in the dark than they are now

I see, after traffic day though wouldn’t it be the same situation as it is now?

Congratulations on the acceptance!

I mean no offense through this question, but are you planning to hold onto your multiple acceptances for weeks/months until they get back to you with a financial aid package?

I thought there was some rule about holding multiple acceptances after April 30th .. like 5 days to decide or something.

Just wondering what your plan is bc what applicants like you do affects people like me who are on multiple waitlists with out an acceptance & beginning to reapply.

To be clear, I don’t blame you for doing what’s best for you! I would do the same. I’m just wondering what it’s like on the other side / if they’ve told you any thing. “5 days to decide” or “all the time you need” etc.

So how it works for my particular case is that I have until Monday to decide if I want to accept the spot from the WL. They said they would give me a preliminary financial aid report by Monday. If I decide by Monday that I do want to accept the spot, then I will withdraw my acceptance from the other school. All of my schools have it listed in their acceptance criteria that you cannot hold multiple acceptances after April 30th, but the couple of days to decide if you want to switch schools doesn't really count as keeping multiple acceptances.

I personally think that the AMCAS PTE and CTE would be fine - I just think that it should be mandatory. I agree with you that it is unfortunate and inconsiderate for people to hold multiple acceptances once they have made their decisions.

Wait so there’s an official commit to enroll date but each school has their own anyway? What’s the point of the April 30th/May 1st cutoff then

Hey I sent ya a dm if you can check it out real quick

Might wanna stay away from patients that have these then:

CTE: Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy
PTE: Pulmonary ThromboEmbolism

On a side note, am I way too sarcastic? Please leave an angry emoji reaction if my sass level is too high.

Haha hilarious. Sass is necessary on this thread.

Finally some transparency! Thanks for getting back to me.

That all makes a lot of sense. I guess I incorrectly assumed that it would take quite some time for the schools to get the financial aid packages out.

I wouldn’t consider taking a few days to decide “holding multiple As” by any stretch. It’s a huge decision so I think you and other people who get a second A off a waitlist have every right to weigh their options before deciding.

Best of luck w/ the aid package next Monday. Maybe a full ride is in your future!

As ADCOM members do you guys communicate to AAMC about the difficulties of this process or does it not matter to you guys because it's not you guys suffering?

I would think If schools came together to try to fix the process with AAMC it would at least improve.

Does this kind of communication happen between schools and AAMC?
Every admissions dean of every school has complained to high heaven...they don't care. All we see are their infuriating, self congratulatory emails.
We have spoken through our representative (miss you, Dr. Hall) and in groups...to no avail.
We have been told in no uncertain terms that the decision to abandon the traffic rules would not be changed no matter how disruptive or unnecessary the decision turned out to be. We all suffer. We suffer differently.
They actually believe that their ridiculous "tool" fixed the situation!
All channels of communication have failed (and our spokesperson has resigned).

Hey SND people, so I need some input on a question I can't find the answer to. I am planning on deferring my matriculation at the school that I am currently set to attend (due to personal/family circumstances), but am also on multiple waitlists at other top choice schools that are also significantly closer to my family. Are people allowed to stay on waitlsits if deferring at their current school?

@gyngyn, what do you make of CUSM sending out a new batch of Interview Invites this week? And yes, they are for this app season, not next year. 🤔🤔
It can only mean that they grossly underestimated the number needed to fill.
This could either be that their committee was less impressed with the screened candidates or that they screened an inadequate number for interviews at the outset.

Most deferral contracts will require that you not re-apply and withdraw from waitlists. Check with the school to learn their specific requirements.

@Goro Any insight into DO waitlist movement? Is the slow confusion in the new MD traffic process going to delay and convolute DO movement?

I don't foresee any changes in the DO world. People would will end up paying their large deposits as insurance, and then withdraw as soon as they get MD accept.

Normally we would see a huge number of withdrawals at my school in May when our large deposits were due, but that's usually because people already had their MD accepts.

This year, we will probably see a much slower attrition

So I am a bit confused, I got off the waitlist of two schools last week (back to back days), and I am still trying to figure out which one I will attend for sure. The committing date for both is later but I do not know until when do I have to decide?

If they didn't mention you can only hold one acceptance after you accept their offer, I would assume you can hold both spots until you decide between them or until the commit date. I know of schools that mention that you need to plan to enroll and only hold one acceptance if you accept an offer off the waitlist, but the acceptance policies vary between schools.

Thanks for your reply! Can I choose the plan to enrol for one of them and leave the other one for a few more days?

Make a pros cons list of your two schools. The one you are thinking of using the plan to enroll option is likely the school you want to go to and can thus just commit to it and withdraw from the other one

Alright, makes sense. I have one in mind that I like better. But I also want a different perspective to point out maybe other stuff that I am not considering. If anyone is willing to do so, please pm me.

You could post a thread in the help me decide section and get multiple points of view faster

If it helps at all, I've been repeatedly tanking their ratings on the "student feedback surveys" they send us  so at least they're getting it from both sides!

I just got a "satisfaction" survey from AMCAS this morning!
