Well sometimes the persistence pays off. I got in on my 3rd cycle, - to 4 schools. i aged so much from all the stress🙂))) i swear - i have a few strands of grey. hahahahaha

On my school specific SDN thread a bunch of people were complaining about the waitlist and saying "man I wish it were ranked, it sucks that they won't tell us where we stand." Then one of those people got in and now they're saying "it's actually GOOD that you don't know because then you will be less upset after you get rejected, you should be grateful that they are not telling you." There are plenty of similar examples where people suddenly become pro-various-****ty-aspects-of-the-app-system the second after they get in, even if they were vehemently against those same policies last week.

Like I'm sure most people don't do this but the ones who do are so aggravating, especially when you know they'd be saying exactly the same stuff you are saying if they were in your shoes

I think it's just human nature, don't take it to heart. The one's saying this were given the opportunity to pursue their dreams by that school, so they would feel the need to defend them.

Beginning to write for secondaries and see the question what have you done since graduation. Well I finished Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, Overlord, Erased, Re Zero, Kuroko No Basket, Assaination Classroom, Oregairu, Promised Neverland, and watching Attack on Titan epicness now. I believe this counts.

@gyngyn how are schools even pulling people off the waitlist right now? For example, if you currently have 10 PTE and 150 CTE for a class of 160, are you pulling, let’s say, 3-4 people off the WL (attempting to gauge those PTE) Or, are you waiting until you have 150 CTE and 9 PTE to pull 1 person off the WL?

My school continues to have movement, so I am wondering where they are at...clearly at this point the class must be mostly CTE, but how do you gauge waitlist for the PTE folks?

It all depends on risk tolerance. PTE=I think I might get into one of my waitlist schools. Who knows if they are right or not...
You are right, most students are now CTE.

I know everyone has been saying not to look at the # of people in the facebook group, but what I've been doing is comparing the size of the class of 2023 group to the class of 2022 group. That might better account for the extra people.

This can be very misleading, as some schools open their previous classes’ fb group access to incoming M1s after orientation, so they can glean information. Also, M2-4s can join the current class group to give advice and support.

I tried this and was basically told "too bad." I wasn't expecting much out of it. Schools and students alike are in a pretty awful situation.

Like @gyngyn has been saying, I think it is school-dependent. But I still feel like there will be a little rush for a week, maybe a week and a half in mid-late July as the last few spots at many schools will be trying to be filled in a short amount of time. This could work out better for people without acceptances because the waitlists should shrink theoretically as each consecutive CTE deadline passes.

Confident? No, I doubt anyone here is confident about what will happen next. I think the strategy most are taking is to assume things will stay as is and make moves accordingly.

With that in mind, the CTE deadline thread (2018-2019 "Commit to Enroll" Deadlines) shows that of the 2/3 of schools that have known CTE deadlines, the majority occur across the next three weeks. If everyone plays nicely then there will be movement throughout July.

The alternate assumption is that every school planned well for the new rules and basically everything is settled. I just can’t imagine that the 140+ allopathic schools all got it right. Seems like there wasn’t a crazy surge early on as before, but instead there’s a constant trickle of acceptances throughout the country.

For what its worth, my WL school has been continuing to send out WL acceptances even through yesterday. And I've never seen them give out acceptances this late in the game in previous years. So I do believe there is still a trickle of movement at some schools.

Re: significant movement after CTE deadlines, I kinda doubt it, I propose the trickle will just continue.

This new system is really unfair for those whose only A is at a school with an early start date.

You get kicked off all wait lists for schools that start a little later.

Nope, I've already submitted my reapp, and am drafting secondary's. Only check my email twice a day now, so if I get in woohooooo!! But, not holding my breath.

I've gotten to the point where on every single 18-19 discussion thread, I click on it if it has a new update, to see if people are getting off the waitlist at other schools. I hate what this process has done to me

but isn’t it only relevant for your own WLSchool? You need a new hobby

The AAMC is too busy congratulating themselves on how well everything is going to do anything useful.
Maybe we'll get an idea on the GSA list-serve when this is all over.

At what point do the schools abandon the AAMC rules completely. Don’t class sizes/type of class etc. affect LCME accreditation? If the schools have no control over students dropping out last minute or never fully commuting doesn’t this begin to effect schools at a different level? Or will schools have a filled class regardless at this point?

Even the weakest MD school will fill. It has for 4 years now, anyway.

Both of my waitlists sent a survey asking if I’m still interested, and both mentioned that they expect few more offers to be given out, but also both mentioned that the movement has started to slow. One was last week, the other was 2 weeks ago.

@gyngyn -- many of the recent posts have questioned whether you still thought there would be a lot of mid-July post-CTE movement, as you thought might be possible a few months ago when the end of April rolled around, and you have hedged. There was also a recent question regarding staying on WLs post CTE, and whether the WL schools were enforcing the "suggestion" that they not do so. I actually don't think that matters as long as they are going to follow the recommendation and not offer acceptances to their WL candidates that have CTE'd elsewhere. This leads to my question, the answer to which might very well explain why the AAMC is breaking its figurative arms patting itself on the back -- to the point, do you know of any schools actually pulling anyone off WLs that have CTE'd elsewhere? Have you heard of any CTEs breaking their commitments? If not, then the system is working exactly as designed, despite the relative lack of visibility. As long as there is no last minute chaos and all seats are filled, wouldn't you agree that this system could fairly be declared a success, at least from the perspective of the schools, notwithstanding the increased anxiety of WL candidates who are not seeing the movement they would like, in a more convenient time frame?
