Does FSU honor the FAP waiver or do they still require the $30 fee? For what it's worth, I'm OOS and received a secondary the day after I applied (which was just a couple of days ago).

Also, I know they have very few OOS students matriculate, but wondering if anyone thinks I fit their target:
-Non-Trade
-cGPA 2.89
-GPA for the last 100 credits (4.0)
-sGPA 3.9
-MCAT 520
-Disabled Military Veteran

I think FSU would be a good place for me and my family, so even with the nearly non-existant OOSers, I used one of my 20 FAP waivers and applied.
I went to FSU for undergrad and know a few veterans in the COM. I know they really value veterans and your MCAT is far above their average. Admissions are always a black box, so if you think you would really love to go there, it wouldn't hurt to take a chance. Also 99% sure they honor the waiver, might have been discussed earlier in this thread!

I'm so pissed off! I just spent the last 3 hours writing essays for FSU's secondary. I made the cardinal sin of not copy/pasting to/from a word document. When I finished, and was quite happy with all my essays (and FSU has a bunch), I clicked submit. As soon as that wheel started spinning, I knew I was in trouble. I frantically tried to highlight, copy/paste anything! I even grabbed my phone to record the screen, hoping that I could scroll through the individual essays and record them for retyping later. Nope! Can't even scroll. Clicked on other tabs and all the other websites were working fine. About 3 minutes later... BOOM! Back to AAMC login screen. Did it auto-save? Please say it auto-saved... NOPE! Entire secondary and the last few hours a big frickin' waste of time. What a buzzkill. I hate the systems some of these schools use.

Unfortunate for sure, but at least you can redo it.

Congrats on the gpa comeback and mcat score. I don’t know much about how FSU COM handles their out of state applications but have you looked at etsu? Very veteran friendly, low cost of living and has a similar approach to FSU. As a vet I was strongly encouraged to apply there.

I haven’t, but I just made a note. I’ll take a look and probably submit a primary there tonight if it looks like a good fit.
Thank you for the advice.

Complete submitted 8/15 still waiting on that complete email.

Thank you! Are you a FAP recepient? From previous post it looks like they have to manually input the fappers.
If you paid out of pocket then maybe thats why you were completed quick.
Either way thanks for the heads up!

I’m FAP, as well.

Thank you! I’m excited. Do you want just my scores? because that definitely is not what got me an interview. My stats are horrible. My cgpa 3.53, sgpa 3.27 and downward trend with multiple C’s. MCAT was 504. Strong Florida ties with it being my home state with my family currently there.

Congrats! So what do you think it was that got their attention?

Anyone on here apply FSU early decision? Already interviewed. Any responses yet?

What would you say is the primary focus of this school?

Our school is obsessed with our mission:
"The Florida State University College of Medicine will educate and develop exemplary physicians who practice patient-centered health care, discover and advance knowledge, and are responsive to community needs, especially through service to elder, rural, minority, and underserved populations. The FSU College of Medicine will lead the nation in preparing compassionate physicians to deliver the highest quality 21st Century patient-centered medicine to communities of greatest need."

Very community/rural focused and primary care oriented. If you interview here, you should know the mission. It's also on a plaque on the wall in the interviewee lunch room.

Can anyone please help me with this secondary question? (yes, I know I am super late, please don't remind me lol).

"Write a critical analysis of your personal and scholastic qualifications for the study of medicine, the realization of your professional ambitions, and why you are choosing to apply to the FSU COM."

It says a limit of 500 words per question but allows 9,999 characters, does it mean 500 words for each part:

1. Write about you scholastic and personal qualifications.
2. Write about your realization of your professional ambitions.
3. Why are you choosing to apply to FSU COM.

Or does it mean 500 words total for the whole thing?
500 words for the whole thing I think

Yah that is what I was thinking too, just wanted to make sure. Funny because it's not even technically a question so could they really get mad if I went over? 🤣

If I have not submitted my secondary yet, where would be the best question to talk about a new activity i started recently since i submitted my AMCAS primary that isn't on there as one of my activities?? Miscellaneous?

I'd avoid writing about the activity that most of us have recently started-Routinely freaking out about being in the middle of the application cycle and the unknowns.

I started 2 new volunteer activities earlier this summer that I plan on continuing until matriculation (assuming I get in somewhere lol) and I mentioned them in the long essay. just try to include it somewhere! I'm not sure if they allow application updates.

Sorry i'm not quite sure what you mean?? Are you just saying its not a good idea to update on something that's recent because you've barely spent any time in the activity?

I was just poking fun at the fact that majority of us spend most of our time worrying about this process.

I wasn’t saying anything about your specific activities.

Interesting. Got an FSU complete email back in mid September. Now just got another one this morning. Perhaps someone is looking at my app? 🙂 d

II today!! But it's not for over 3 months! Should I be worried I am secondary applicant and interviewing for the waitlist with such a long delay between II and interview? To be fair, I only submitted my secondary very late.
when were u complete

Idkmed said he got ii but the interview isn’t until three months from now
Oh thanks! I didn’t see where the interview date was mentioned. In big trouble if they’re interviewing in January alread 🙁

Hi, all! I plan to apply next cycle. My undergrad GPA overall is 3.5 and science is 3.2. I am currently a grad student and my grad school GPA [all sciences classes] is 3.5 with a 499 MCAT score, do I have a chance at FSU? I am instate. Born and raised. Attended undergrad and grad school in Florida.

The FSU 10th percentile on MSAR for matriculants is 499. Since you're applying the next cycle, re-taking the MCAT would be a good idea.

Thank you! I am planning on retaking in January or March of next year.

Then you'll need to really kill the MCAT and possibly do a post-bacc or SMP as your sGPA is below the 10th percentile and your cGPA is just above it.
