2019-2020 Nebraska

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just kidding. Checked mail. I was deferred to regular pool. Good luck to the rest of you EDP-ers!
I’m with you! Waiting possibly another five months is going to be awful, but at least it’s not a rejection! Good luck!

Applied EDP. IS applicant. Deferred 9/30. LM Score: 69.1.

Not sure why or where to go from here... If anyone else was deferred- please reach out. Really trying to figure out what went wrong and where I can improve.

Hello, I have an interview here coming up on the 8th of November. I was just wondering what it is like interviewing here? Any questions that I can better prepare myself for? Any tips for me? Thanks for the help in advance.

Does anyone know the percentage of OOS that gets accepted? I was looking at MSAR and I know the matriculation rate was low...but was wondering if anyone had insight on it.

Idk if this helps, but I was considering applying EDP and asked Lindsay about it. She said above median GPA and above a 512 MCAT is considered competitive for EDP. Assuming you'd also have to have the general volunteering/research/shadowing hours

This was my easiest interview so far. They will ask you all the basic questions, so just know your application, your strengths, weaknesses, etc. and you should be golden. They honestly didn't ask anything I wouldn't have already known about myself so if you're able to articulate well you should do great!

this was a fantastic interview experience for me. they really opened up the conversation and just asked me where my inspiration and passion comes from. I was able to just tell my story and have a good conversation. Just study your application, know what you’ve done, and definitely know exactly why you want to practice medicine. Good luck!

First regular admission decisions come out on Monday

Whaaaaat where'd you hear this? I thought it was December
Agreed! During our presentation on interview day they said the earliest would be the end of December! I hope you’re right because I’m beside myself haha.

Edit: added quote for clarification.

Hmm. Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I thought they said 11/18? It also says 11/18 as first release date on MSAR. Waiting another month sounds awful 🙁

How open are they to updates? For example would it be ok if I updated them about a research conference (relevant) but add in the same update that I started volunteering (even though I literally just started it)? I’ve been going back and forth on this

Personally, I would wait until you have a little experience with the volunteering and can speak to what you’ve learned or how it’s helped you grow. Assuming you’ve already interviewed, they do allow one update to be submitted as a PDF to the recruiting coordinator. Best to keep it to a page. You just want to get it in before they review your file with the committee, which happens at the end of December through March. Sounds like it’s completely random how they select files to review.

Hi! OOS applicant interviewing in December-- any advice? I'm aware that OOS matriculation rates are pretty low. Is it a good idea to talk about my ties to the university/Omaha, or would that come off as annoying/unnecessary, given that I'm already at the interview stage?

So the end of this week is the first wave of acceptances right? Last year’s thread showed it was December 6

Has anyone sent a letter of interest? What types of things do you include?
I would make it more of an update where you include within it some specifics on why the things included in your update make you a good fit/make you want to go to UNMC even more. That is roughly what I’m going to send at the end of the month

Anyone know about waitlist trends at this school, by the way?

Seems like the waitlist is divided by top and bottom. Top seems to move a lot (and if you don’t, they’re likely offering you deferred acceptance next year) and bottom is less likely to move. I don’t have any stats to back that up, just regurgitating what I’ve heard/read.

Wow, seems like a more promising waitlist situation than a lot of other schools. Thanks for sharing

Anyone know if decisions went out on Dec 6th like last year? Or if they’re going to be a little later?

Just interviewed here on 12/13. They said the committee starts meeting to review files starting mid-January and will release decisions from then until mid-March. They accept updates through 1/3 only, and they asked us to refrain from calling in/following up between mid-Jan and mid-March. Everyone should have decisions in hand by 3/18. And all decisions are sent via physical mail-- no phone calls or emails.

Does that mean they aren't reviewing any apps this semester?

This may be just for the December interviewees. Maybe/hopefully they will start sooner? Who knows
I interviewed mid October and was told that the earliest decisions could be as early as the first of the year, but that files were pulled at random to go to the executive committee. I sincerely hope that there is decision making prior to February or March, but we will see!
