2020-2021 Western University of Health Sciences (Pomona, California)

I would just go where you want to live for the next four years. I don't think the quality of education would be much different

It depends on where you would want to live and how much more you need for living expenses (food, transportation, insurance, etc.). Rent varies a lot depending where you want to live. Around campus can be anywhere from 700 to 1500 a month if you want a 1 bedroom apartment on campus. I'll be commuting when we start going to campus in January, but I haven't done it yet so I can't really speak much on it. They don't really mention board prep until second year, but I've been doing an anki deck with all of the content we've done so far to help retain

I would just e-mail admissions

They determine who gets a call based on interview performance

... jk 😉
Thanks so much for all the info! Can I ask you where you plan to be commuting from? I'm curious as to what's considered a realistic commute lol

Hello everyone, first time applicant here. I received a secondary within a few days of submitting my application but I won't be able to take the CASPer until January 12th. That means it'll be a month before my results are sent to COMP.

Do you guys think they'll still be interviewing in March? I'm IS, local and this is my number one.

I think they are still interviewing people in March but you would have likely received the invitation to interview in January or February. I think if you aren't complete by March, there may not be any more interview slots to choose from by that point. Also remember, CASPer takes ~ month to grade and for your score to be transmitted to the designated schools. So if you are taking CASPer January 12th, you actually won't be complete til ~ mid February assuming everything else in your application is complete. If I were you, I would just apply next cycle at this point or focus on schools that interview late into spring / early summer. I think I read and vaguely recall during my interview that Western tends to wrap up interviews in March, but I could be wrong about this. You could see if anyone from from the 2019-2020 SDN thread got interviewed after March.

Omg thank you for this massive reply!! Lol from anyone you know (i guess like a 2nd year that could’ve done it pre-covid) is it realistic to commute from like ~40 minutes away? Also...where do you get anki decks? Do you make them, do you use the pre-made ones on reddit, does the school have anki decks lol

I'll be commuting from orange county when we start again, so about 25-30 mintues plus depending on traffic. I was debating on moving closer but i t didn't make sense since we knew we would be online for at least half of the year.

Some people like to make their own anki cards, and some people post decks that they make to share with the class. I personally just use the premade Anking and unsuspend the cards that I want to review (there's a lot of videos on youtube on how to use it)

Ahhh makes sense thanks!!

Does anyone know if the dec 15th deadline for the deposit is flexible under certain situations? Has anyone heard anything from admissions about it?

Did anyone from the 12/8 interview receive a link for the rescheduled mixer that is now on 12/15?

How was the interview like?.. I applied kinda late, and this II is the one and the only one I have received so far.
I am really getting nervous...
It seems like they ask a lot of ethical dilemma type questions, which I really suck at answering.

Not bad imo. I haven't been admitted yet though, so I could be totally wrong here haha. It could also depend largely on who interviews you. My interviewers were pretty laid back and conversational so that definitely helped ease some of my stress.

During the interview I think they either said we should hear back this week but I’m not totally sure

I just tried emailing the admissions office, and received an automatic reply saying that the admissions office is officially closed through the rest of the year, and that the admissions staff will return to work on January 4th. I am not sure what to make of this because they told 12/8 interviewers that they would try to get decisions sent out by this Friday. I guess we'll wait and see, but I kind of expect it to now come in January given the early holiday departure.

Does this school screen for secondary? I received a secondary 2 weeks ago but is a bit weary to submit since it's so late in the cycle and my stats are below their average.

Does anyone have the stats for ii vs acceptance ratio? Website shows the numbers for interviews granted (746) vs students enrolled (227) for the pomona campus, and assuming accepted students > enrolled students, would it be close to 400 acceptances, so ~50%?
During the interview they said they accept ~425-450 students, yielding a post-II acceptance rate of ~60% give or take a few percentage points. It's unclear if this also includes alternates who eventually come off the waitlist and receive an admission.

Hello Kind Sir/Madam, congratulations on your ii! I respectfully request your completion date if you would be so kind.
Hey, submitted secondary 7/12, but my Casper wasn't completed until 7/20, so I'd say late July. Never received an official complete email or anything though

wondering the same thing, although I was a 12/8 interviewee. At this point, I'm thinking we might have to wait until the 1st or 2nd week of January ><
so unfortunate b/c for me today is literally the last of the 15 day time frame that they said you should hear back by. so I'm assuming that means its not good news anyway, but that hasn't stopped me from updating my portal every hour :smack:

No i would't assume that. Did they say 15d or 15d "business" days? I asked the admissions department previously and they told me 15 business days.

They said during the Dec 8 interviews that they would try their best to have decisions made for the December interviews by the 18th. If it wasn’t possible, they would notify us that no decisions were made yet. They just did more interviews on Wednesday (even though they were “closed”) so I’m thinking they aren’t going to be able to get them done today but maybe we’ll be surprised.

I got accepted 3 and a half weeks after my interview, so give it some time!🙂

phew thanks for that! idk why they were stressing the whole 15 days during the interview, i wouldnt have been worried at all if it wasnt for that lol

Hello! so I'm prepping for my interviews but given western is one of my #1 choices, I'm lowkey panicking out of fear that I won't get in haha... Has anyone received acceptance this year with around 3.55gpa 510 mcat? I'm in dire need of affirmation LOL
I got accepted here recently, I have a 512 (131/123/130/128) and 3.51 sGPA, 3.59 cGPA
Hope that helps!

Is there a spot to update fall grades or did y'all email admissions
I think you need to submit the update through AACOMAS first- I believe AACOMAS will then notify the schools regarding your academic update. I don't think it hurts to also send a short email to Western admissions office directly, but make sure at the very least you update through AACOMAS.

Hi I was wondering if I can still submit my secondary application (its above their 10 day suggestion) - would it hurt my chances? Thanks

I got my secondary in early september, and did not submit it until 10/22. I got an II a couple weeks ago, so you should be fine
