Hello all,

Winter Storm Enzo has effectively shut FSU COM and Tallahassee down. We have had to reschedule interview scheduled for this week and don't anticipate sending out any other invites for at least a week. Most interview invites will continue to go out in larger groups every two weeks or so, as they have been during the cycle. There will also be sporadic, one-off invites as applicants invited withdraw. We still expect to invite 120-150 applicants. Thanks for your patience and interest!!

Stay safe!

Do we know if more invites are going out this week? Admissions last post mentioned something in their last post but maybe something changed

I think they said at least a week, so it could be longer. I hope it works out for both of us though. Im right there with you.

As a M1, I just wanted to say that I wish I knew about FSU. I go to a diff MD school and I'd be applying OOS if I had applied but I took a look into their curriculum today and DANG, they have 100% NBME + P/F + what seems to be an even easier point-based system than most P/F systems (given the syllabi here)

Do y'all know how much I'd kill to have NBME exams? Don't get me started. If I had gone back knowing what I know now (and this is especially as someone who uses Anki bc the real advantage of NBME is that it allows you to focus on 3rd party & you can use AnKing to simply retain it - whereas that isn't the case for in-house exams, where the decks would add up to too many cards + they're not nearly as organized as AnKing), having 100% NBME exams would be like 20-30% weight of EVERYTHING I considered in a school. That includes P/F pre-clerkship, if they have ranking, living situation, etc

Hey all,

Going to answer a few questions below:

Uploading an update does not carry any "weight", but it does help the admissions committee see ongoing commitment to whatever is you are doing.

We always project somewhere close to 300 interviews, and we have interviewed and invited a little more than half. We will invite another 100-120 applicants. Maybe more if necessary

Maybe? If any from the group we invited yesterday withdraw, the next folks will get an invite, thus the more sporadic invites. The next big invite will likely be sometime at the end of next week or week after.

Can't tell you how much it means to see this message. We are working to meet applicants where they are, but will always remind everyone that our email is the best way to connect officially with specific questions about your own journey. Hope you ordered a cheesy gordita crunch!

Thanks everyone,

FSU COM Admissions
Bruh, and the school does all this? sheesh....yk, if y'all accept transfers....lmk. Jk jk, I'm happy where I'm at, just gotta say the work y'all do is admirable

The delays that is seen could be associated with the bad weather and shut down of the campus for a week and re-scheduling the interviews. my perspective .

Did you forget the part where the students have to do rotations at other campuses and there's no home hospital? TMH also doesn't like working with FSU students.

Does TMH still accept some students? Has their lack of a home hospital, if TMH isn't considered one, always been a thing?

Idk 2 cents abt fsu until looking up some curriculum so im pretty ignorant of what they got going but a regional campus in Orlando......shoot, you ain't gonna here a complaint from me

@FSUAdmissionsOffice what would your advice be to someone that hasnt received an interview at this stage. I have started planning ahead and I’m thinking about retaking my MCAt. Any other advice?
Even though we will interview until the end of March, all applicants at this stage should be looking at their application critically and identifying weaknesses, and start working on them. Without the context of your application, it's hard to say if retaking the MCAT is something that would help you with us. I am sorry I can't be more helpful yet.
is it just me or driving by an fsu license plate or seeing someone with a shirt gives me an ounce of hope 😭
Whatever helps you have hope is a good thing!! 🙂

Hi there, I want to address this because it seems a bit antagonistic. We PURPOSEFULLY have a regionally distributed campus model because we want our students to have a 1-on-1 relationship with the physicians they are rotating with. All of our students will rotate in a hospital setting as well as community clinics, private offices, etc. This allows for a really well-rounded, experience-rich time during your two clinical years. Additionally, getting our students out into those communities allows them to begin to develop networks and relationships where they may one day practice. Not having a teaching hospital affiliated with FSU is not a negative. As for your second comment, have you not heard of the new FSU Health partnership with TMH? Clearly TMH WANTS to work with FSU and our students 🙂 Florida State University and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare break ground on academic health center

@FSUAdmissionsOffice is it a red flag on my application if I want specialize in field like surgery. Ik you guys place huge emphasis on pcp
Simply expressing an interest in a surgical specialty is not a red flag. However, we are looking for at least a willingness to explore Primary care and shadowing and clinical experience in a primary care area is a must. Remember that this includes Internal Med, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Family Med.

Glad to hear you'd be good in Orlando! Have you take a look at Sarasota and Ft. Pierce?!

To answer your question, yes, it was intentional to not be affiliated with a teaching hospital, for the reasons I listed above in another response. That too is changing, though.
