2024-2025 Columbia (Vagelos)

I applied to the Bassett program and am keeping my fingers crossed, it's an incredible program! is there a separate interview process for that program? and if so, do you think it's still possible to receive an interview at this point even if my submission date (7/27) has been passed per tracking sites?
The Bassett program has a separate interview process. It's composed of 2 interview days: one with Bassett, and one with Columbia VP&S. Interview invites for Bassett are not initially received through the admissions portal.

It is still possible to receive an interview. Submission dates don't really track very well with II dates at any institution, and Bassett also has a separate process from VP&S, which makes it entirely possible to receive an interview.

Does Columbia accept pre-II letters of interest? The portal only allows you to select CV/Resume or New Applicant Update when uploading documents. Do those who interviewed have additional options in the drop-down menu?

Does anyone have any advice for interview here? What are the vibes? Interviewing on thurs and haven’t received info on whether I’m in Group A or B…

I’m not sure, but to answer your second question, no there are not additional drop down options.

Received an email early this afternoon from a student VP&S admissions rep after my interview basically offering to be a one-on-one contact for questions. Has anyone else seen something like it?

I have not!

On a similar note, has anyone else received an email from the dean saying "the Admissions Committee will keep you strongly in mind" in response to their thank-you letters? I'm being hella neurotic but yeah.

For those interviewing for the MD-PhD program, how late did the interview dates go when you signed up?

I did send an update letter two days ago, which could have something to do with it but I’m truly confused

Potentially insane thought - is it possible it was a mistake? I sent in an update letter earlier this week and got an automated acknowledgment a couple days later. Any chance they accidentally sent you the wrong automated email? I think it might be worth asking about since they really are not rolling...

it's funny you mention that bc they sent me another email an hour later acknowledging my update and saying we appreciate your continued interest lol but since there are a few other R's reported on cycletrack, I don't think it was a mistake and just gonna accept my fate 🙁 good luck to you!

How long did it take to get a response from the student VP&S admissions rep if you ended up emailing?

@ravioliravioli I also sent an email regarding an update this past Monday (12/9) and just received a pre-II R. I’m considering reaching out but am hesitant since I also saw other reported Rs on cycletrack. Any advice from anyone?

08/01–thank you so much! I’m not sure of the potential cons of reaching out post-R, and if it is just circumstantial that similar experiences occurred. Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated!
Can't imagine there are any downsides to reaching out. Either you're rejected anyway or learn that it was a mistake. As long as it's written professionally it won't matter.

I reached out about my R and it was in fact not a mistake . They mentioned the bulk of decisions do come out in Feb/March but that doesn’t mean some can’t come out earlier. I was like oh you really don’t want me lmaooo 🥲

Did anyone else apply to the PhD to MD program this cycle and heard back regarding that program?
